Yay, you finally have the HS8! I've been waiting for quite some time. I bought a PreSonus Eris E4.5 solely because of your videos, just wanted to let you know that you help us a lot on deciding which monitor to get. 4:12 shows that the HS5 cuts ALL of sub-60 hertz frequencies. HS8 really is the only decent one between all Yamaha's HS series monitors.
Sad... I was expecting saving space on my desk. Don't even have an isolated room, I don't need the size and power of an HS8. It's just to check my mix after working mostly with headphones.
Maple Green I have had HS7 before and currently have HS8 and will buy the 7 back in a few months to my other setup. I can make a video then. Also how the 7 and 8 pair up with the HS8S (subwoofer)
@@epicon6 is the hs7 vocal sound better than hs8 ? please i am confused to decided whether buying smaller inches speaker + subwoofer or buy hs8 alone? loll
Rocky Ha If you want a subwoofer i don't recommend HS5+ Subwoofer. Then i would go with HS7+Subwoofer. Both HS8 than the HS7 are great with vocals. With the 7 you get a punchy bass but not as much low end, with the 8 you get deep and accurate bass and with the 8 the speakers dissapear so you just hear and feel the music. With the 7 you hear the sounds are coming from the speakers. Last week i was watching a war movie with some added low end from my mixer and at the same time a plane flew through my area and went supersonic and i thought the boom came through the HS8 cos' there was landmines going off at the same time in the movie. Anyway the 7 are just as amazing. If you would buy the HS7+the HS8S (subwoofer) i think it would be a killer combo and i would choose that over buying the HS8 if you would never buy a subwoofer for that. The 8 go low but not nearly as low as a subwoofer. You really can't go wrong with either speaker though
I bought HS5 but returned them for HS8 because HS5 definitely need a subwoofer like HS8S but HS8 are good even without the subwoofer. Even when I add subwoofer with HS5, I can get the low ends sub 35hz covered but I wasn't getting the punch from those Indian Drum sounds of Tabla, Dholak, Dhol. I think it's best to try them and decide based on your type of music. Definitely both HS5 and HS8 have same clarity and crispness, but HS8 are 3 times louder and sound full. I am happy.
Personally find mixing on HS5 way easier, then headphones for the bass. HS8 great if your room is suitable for them. HS5 for everywhere else, in my opinion.
Some people like to combine the HS5 with the HS8S, and then tune them correctly to small spaces. Might be another solution. But have no experience with the setup.
at first I was questioning myself on "why would anyone spend an extra couple hundred just for a couple inches bigger" (Thats' what she said.) joking aside, I'm honestly baffled how there's such a big difference in terms of sound. I know that RUclips compresses the audio and all that. But even on a high end pair of headphones you can still notice the difference if you're experienced enough with it.

I definitely recommend the hs8s. Its very transient and detailed and produces quality bass but it will chuff if you push it too hard. In my room I measure 33hz @-6db. I think that’s decent for the price. I want to get lower end for the future, like maybe in the realm of 25hz and currently learning about and leaning towards building a pair of diy 3 way towers with subs built in, but want to work on room treatment first. Also for the record, I no longer low cut the hs8 because I get better bass when I play the full spectrum on the speakers. Also I highly recommend you keep them away from walls if you have the space to do it. It will improve the sound dramatically. The manual recommends 1.5m away from the wall.
Thank you! I just got the HS5’s and an HS8S. Was googling as I wasn’t sure if I should have gotten the 8’s instead lol. I think with mixing vocals the 5 could be clearer, and with the sub I’m good to go ..
