  • After finding the Engine Computer SWIMMING in a box of water, I don't have high hopes of bringing this ECM back to life....
Luckily, the owner has a SPARE ECM on the shelf!
While he is bringing it over, let's hook up the PICOSCOPE and see if the flooded ECM is showing any signs of life...
Will the "Hot-Sauce SAAB" Start up with the replacement ECM?
    PLACE YOUR BETS NOW!
    Enjoy!
    Ivan

You should see the adjustment for the handbrake, a small Allen screw on the calipper to take out the deadspot on the pads and you have perfect handbrake. These cars were awesome. Changing rear wheelbearings was done in a breeze. Truly well designed cars.

Brings back memories. Usually 3 things goes wrong with them, fuel pump, crank sensor and the huge coilpack. Mine had intermittent no start, and all I had to do was disconnect and connect the coilpack and it would start again. Had that replaced. Then I had issue with crank sensor. It would run fine, but when i stopped the car it would not restart until it cooled down. I could see it was the crank sensor bacause no movement in tachometer while cranking. And then the fuel pump went later on. Thats all the problems I had in 9 years off ownership. Over 400000km, was scrapped due to too much rust. Best car I have ever owned, it also was a cse. It went like a billett 😂😂😂😂😂

I dont know if this car has Bosch electronics but i do know that cars from this era that use Bosch relais had issues with cracked solder points in fuel pump relais. That could or would cause an intermittent no start condition. I have had this happen on a number of Volvo's (240, 740, 940, 780)

This thing is to new, from motronic it's just a normal relay.

I want to see what the crank sensor waveform looks like with the donor ECM installed. Let it get hot, then heat soak. I've never seen a 93 anything with OBD2 type P code support in it, so that's really interesting. Some pull ahead (as we used to call them) GMs had them in late 94 CAFE emissions, and 95 for Fed emissions, but again, I've never seen any service data stating you can use both flash codes or OBD2 P codes (providing you have a scanner with the software) so this is a learning experience for me!

The name was already used for the Opel GM Family II engine, Family 1 and Family 0 ranges. GM intended this new Ecotec to become its global 4-cylinder, and it has already fully replaced their OHV I4 line.
The Ecotec engine is a DOHC 4-valve design with a lost foam cast aluminium block and head (L850 for 86 mm bore applications, and L880 for 88 mm bore[citation needed]), designed for displacements from 1.8 to 2.4 L. Development began in 1994, by an international team of engineers and technicians from Opel's International Technical Development Center in Rüsselsheim, Germany, GM Powertrain in Pontiac, Michigan, and Saab in Södertälje, Sweden.[2]

dude, stick it in rice for a few days to completely dry out. Blowing air?? Treat it like an electronic component, not a dusty air filter. Lol
