Yeah, most will make you go through PT first, but if you can’t walk at all, they should give you an MRI right away. Sounds like you may have a serious tear. I know this post is 3 months old, but if the Dr won’t discuss more immediate treatment with you, given your pain, I would go to another Orthopedic Surgeon

it`s not good for them sales wise, PRP is relatively cheap compared to the meniscus operation.
