- After Harold Bishop feel off rocks and into the sea in 1991 (episode 1520), he left behind only his glasses and was presumed dead. Madge moved on and moved away from Ramsay Street. Five years later in 1996 (episode 2733), Harold reappeared as Salvation Army volunteer Ted. He had suffered from amnesia after the accident and had no memory of his previous life. Having to visit Ramsay Street to collect Cheryl's clothes, Harold was overcome with a strange sensation and crossed paths with Helen Daniels. She contacted Madge who came back to Ramsay Street to see if it was true and to try and reconnect with Harold.
A former pastor of my church once recounted how when Harold got washed out to sea, he told his kids "Don't worry. There's no body and he's not much of an actor. He'll be back." After that, every time when he walked into the living room and his kids were watching Neighbours he would always ask "Is Harold back yet?"
One day he was in his study preparing his sermon when one of his kids rushed in excitedly. "Dad! Dad! Harold's back!"
I really loved Harold and was sad when he disappeared for 5 years but it was so good to see him back and alive and still am now looking back at this episode but episode 1520 1991 will always be in my mind for Harold's disapearence and then he reappeared 5 years later I remember shouting to my mum Harold's back! look who's come back! Harold's come back! we were both thrilled and surprised and couldn't believe it oh what memories! But Harold has gone again tho miss him very much
We've all had nights like this when you can't remember what's happened.
Seriously home and away than neighbours from 17.10 till 18.00 was the best tv. Wish it was like that now
I never could understand why Harold's character was dropped in the first place. Ian Smith plays him brilliantly and admitted that Neighbours bosses sacked him.
The show was undergoing a revamp and wanted to appeal to a younger audience
Some of the best cast are gone. This made me so happy 😊 I was 16 when this storyline was on.
I was 14 when Harold came back from the dead
I had brief periods of watching this show in the 90s and this storyline had me hooked, even though I found it beyond the realms of credibility.
As ridiculous soap stories go this was rather sweet
To be fair though, if you watch the original 1991 episode where he goes missing, we technically don’t see what happens to him - fair enough, his glasses were left behind but you don’t see him dying or anything, so the door was left wide open. From what I understand, the show went into a massive carcrash phase between the start of the 1995 season and mid 1996 when Harold came back - they had to bring them back to bring the ratings back up
to be fair Neighbours is sweeter than our UK soaps which is just simple depressing to watch
@@amigos2841 I haven't watched any kind of soap in years, I've just had enough of that shit
@@philtomkinson7956 fair play, all load of crap really, especially our ones
How genius was it to bring Harold back when only two people on Ramsay Street would recognise him.
Lovely scene :) Now I'm hooked again and want to see Harold getting his memory back!
Can you imagine being Harold and realising you married a stone cold fox like Madge
As I’m 45 this month she’s definitely looking more of a fox than when I was twelve. 🦊
Philip: "Pleasure to have you!" *closes door and goes outside* "Oh FFS!"
I haven't watched Neighbours is a long time but I used to be a huge fan - this was just a beautiful and gentle storyline.
Hope you enjoyed the final episode mate! It was actually good!
The original Jason Bourne book was based on Harold's story.
🤣😂
Lol!
That was then and now Ted may have totall recall.
Oh noooooo!!! I must be getting old! Haven’t seen neighbours for 20 years and suddenly I find Madge attractive😂
Was just thinking she's really glamourous
I love how the thumbnail looks like Harold as a gansta with a cigar in his fingers. Bad ass Harold
People say Charlene's wedding was the best storyline and maybe they're right, but real fans know the most dramatic storyline was Harold's disappearence and subsequent shock return!
With the recent passing of this young man who starred on what was it, Home and Away, I recalled yet again that a visit to the UK had me watching a soap opera called The Neighbours, one episode each time, during visits to England. I knew it was called The Neighbours, but I would never know anything about it.
I remembered this hoarse-voiced blonde woman married to this roly-poly little man in glasses (you're already there, aren't you?)
When I returned, I saw the little man again, in one chance viewing, but didn't see her. Was never quite sure what was going on, but I guess that's an English soap.
Well, it was an Aussie soap, anyway, but I had actually seen the intro the first time and knew I saw the Neighbours, and the intro showed the little man trimming the branch in the tree and the woman lounging beneath him and the branch falls in her lap.
So there they were. Again, with the young man, Dieter Brummer, passing away, after being famous on Home and Away, I decided to look the show up. Watch a bit of it.
Then I see he appeared on The Neighbours. Try to see if you can find your little couple again, however long they might have been on the show. Highly unlikely but allright.
So I looked up Neighbours and found ALL the intros, and there they were, . . . . with the tree branch. Now I got their names and the characters' names, so let's go.
And here they are. No, I didn't see this scene before in the UK, but I'll just say, this is truly one of the most adorable things I have ever seen.
From America, kudos to the performers, being the first two people I saw on The Neighbours. I'm being told I'm misspelling Neighbours. LOL!
It's not called 'The Neighbours', just 'Neighbours'.
@@infectedvoice5162 ah, be grateful I wasn't being a totally belligerent American and left the U out of "Neighbours".
We do that, ya know!
@@2up3rm4n1 Haha all good mate I was only being a dick.
Been there - my husband had a serious head injury and didn't recognise me. When he came home he thought he was single -- and it all went downhill from there.
It was great when they came back. It revitalised the show after the dark years of the 90's.
i agree
For sure, Harold WAS Neighbours in the late '90s!
I hadn't thought of it that way, but that's a good point- I'd forgotten that particularly between 94-96, there were some very dark (and grim) moments on the show- Cheryl and Cody's deaths, Helen's stroke, Susan's confession to euthanizing her mother etc. but from late '96 onwards, the show started to pick up steam again, leading to a very strong year in 97 in particular.
Crazy that they will be essentially repeating this storyline with Dee soon
Not exactly. Dee didn't have amnesia, just went into hiding.
I grew up watching this I was 12 when this episode was on television.
We're the same age (it's not me in my avatar).
Madge returns in the final episode, but only as a Ghost in Susan's memories. She cries as she sees Madge (as she would be if she was still alive) watching over Harold in the final scene, and several of the other deceased residents with the still living respective family members, including Toady's ex and even Rob Mills character that tried to kill Susan (closing out Susan's main PTSD storyline of the last few seasons).
It was nice, but I kinda wish they had some dialogue though.
*Toadie’s late wife
Also Doug Willis (Terence Donovan), meaning three generations of Donovans appeared in the final episode.
7.50+ the song is called How Great It Is by Paul Norton, used on the show through 1993-96
This is exactly what I'm like after a heavy nights drinking. I can't remember nothing 😂
This was a bit more believable than when they had Susan lose her memory. That was ridiculous
how did Susan lose her memory?
I remember that stupid storyline. I also remember when Brad Willis went blind for an episode after getting surf wax in his eyes.
@@tonymil7319 She slipped on some spilt milk.
@@tonymil7319 was it a supposed symptom of MS? I can't quite remember.
Oddly enough, Ian Smith also played a character called "Ted" in "PRISONER" !
They possibly used that name as a nod to his days in Prisoner ;)
Harold Bishop is the neighbours version on corries Roy cropper a true legend
Neighbours needs to be a film
I'm crying watching this ...love it
When I watched this 1st time when Harold returned I was like omg
This was the cutest TV storyline ever...
Didnt work out quite the same for these guys though!!!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Darwin_disappearance_case
Yeah, cause it was written by children with wild imaginations. The script should never have made it beyond the fridge door. Neighbours became weaker and more unwatchable following Harold's return. It's what separated the classic era of Neighbours and the modern era IMO.
Absolutely right thank god I found this!
Neighbours needs to come back. Really miss it 😞
Yeah you would think the BBC would get it back considering how badly it's going for them atm
I never brought up the fact though that Mage igot a really big insurance pay out when Harold went missing. They could’ve had a really good story line with her being done for insurance fraud like the guy went missing in a canoe in later on returning claimed he lost his memory. Hey maybe this is where they got the idea from.
Emotional reunion: cue comedy banjo music.
Yeah, talk about a mood killer..
I started watching Neighbours again when i heard they were both coming back.
Was so sad when they killed Madge off years later, Madge & Harold were a lovely couple
@@jdooris83 Anne Charleston decided to leave because she felt they had changed Madge's character and made her less feisty.
3:45
"I mean you just walked into the sea, we thought you drowned!"
If I remember rightly lou called harold jelly belly and his memory came back 🤔🤔
It’s amazing the storylines we excused 😂😂😂😂😂😂
A girl I was at school with said the day after he went missing that he appears a few years later with amnesia. We all said yeah right……..
Harold's return weird unbelievable
Storyline But not as bad as Dirty Den
In EastEnders after 14 years away
With his return from the dead after
Being shot on Canel foot path
Walking into the Queen Vic saying
To his Daughter Sharon Alright Princess like a ghost 👻💀 of Christmas past
I wish they been out the seasons on dvd
They will now.... At least on Streaming services.
Anyone know the name of the song playing at the beginning in the background of the coffee shop is called?
It sounds like the lyrics are "What you wanted, hey hey".
Dear Anne Haddy :)
A beautiful person
RIP!
Harold = Penfold from Dangermouse
Oooh, crumbs, chief!!
Helen Daniels is the only screen icon i miss
If he lost his memory & didn’t know his own name how did he get his job ??
They explained it in the video.
Gotta love soaps ..they are batshit crazy
A beautiful piece of music playing between 3:57 and 6:33.
Any one know what this piece of music is called ?
@@DanielDelgado-xb2cf "Caroline" by The Badloves (an instrumental version of the song).
@@jakemusictvs Thank you very much
@@DanielDelgado-xb2cf You're welcome. It is a great song and always been one of my favourites. I bought it on a CD when it was first released in the mid 1990s. The Badloves are from Melbourne, the same place where Neighbours is filmed.

How did he float unconscious without drowning is what i always wanted to know 🤷♂️
Same way Scott did when he washed up on shore unconscious. And the survivors of the plane crash who were swept ashore.
Ramsay street residents are all merpeople.
Could someone upload the follow up episodes after this to see Madge & Harold reunite?
Ian Smith is 80 this year.
@jay twinontourHe's aged really well.

Will this what could happened with Mick Carter when he will return to Eastenders hopefully in 40th anniversary?
Wonder what happened with the life insurance payout 🤔
What a tremendous storyline 😂
It’s very deep and well written
What happened to Harold? Clearly he has amnesia, but what caused it?
I haven't watched neighbours since the late 90s, but recently stumbled across this clip here on RUclips
He was washed out to sea and had been living in Tasmania with Amnesia
I missed about a year when this was happening. How did he go missing? Thsnks
@@BWebb-gd9qn he walked into the sea lol
He fell off a rock into the sea. Madge just found his glasses.
I was 11
Aaahhhh madge
its ha with lucy for me
💖
What happened to him? I assume this was after Kerry’s death, as I was still watching it then.
He was swept off a cliff in 1991, and obviously presumed dead until “Ted” rocked up in Ramsay Street
@@NeighboursNerd He also returned for the final episodes which was great. Too bad Madge only appears in the final episode as a "what if?" ghost in Susan's mind. Don't get me wrong, I liked it as it was the only way to involve her given her character's on-screen death, but I kinda wish the scene had been longer instead of her just sitting watching over him. They should have had Madge grab hold of his hand or something like that.
I did see and hear Alen sing in the Walk About in Derby. He can sing.
And Berlins licked salt of the Tequila girl.
rip harlod and Madge 😣
harold aint dead
Harold moved to Port Douglas to live with Sky.
good old jelly belly.
jelly belly

I remember that!!!
Lou used to call Harold that for a wind up lol
How did Lou the carpenter pull Anna-lise
He has lots or money
Probably was large down stairs if you no what I me 😂😂
Did Harold get his memory back?
Yep, he sure did, eventually
Cant remember
So did this guy, when he got a 5 year sentence!!!

Yeh John monk helped him
Anyone recognise the songs played in the background?
Darude - Sandstorm
‘Caroline’ by the Bad Loves is one of the songs
I love thid
I would have thought that the first thing Harold would ask would be whether they had been very much in love, and how Madge felt now. The conversation seems pretty unrealistic for the situation.
No because Harold wasn't the kind of character to talk about emotions much. But I did think it was unrealistic how unemotional Madge was. In real life, she would have been in tears and would have thrown her arms around him.
It's the name they gave me in rehab... all that XXXX and Fosters.... when you cant remember anything what you got to lose!!!
Should have been an evil twin pretending to be him
I'm on to U Mate
Ridiculous storyline. I stopped watching when they returned.
