I have been using managed libraries since they were introduced and like using them. At first, they were strange and fiddly but over time have received enough polish to be nice.
At one point I just had to make a clean break from my previous libraries and tediously create an entirely new library that was organized in the most useful way for my workflow. That took some time but was VERY worthwhile.

I have been a frustrated Eagle user for years. The transition to Fusion360 was crazy horrible.....but I will try again for my next project. It all seems very promising, yet currently scattered and marginally functional for professional use.
Glad to see some support and education for Fusion Electronics on RUclips

Thank you! I have had many of the same struggles and it's nice to see a known-good workflow that I can refer back to. And thanks for the backdoor into the 3d package generator to quickly generate STEP Files. I too have a folder of STEP files to associate to Eagle parts that don't have a 3d model because of no way to associate a 3d model to Eagle libraries you don't control. I use the Adafruit managed Eagle library a lot, so if you add 3d models to that, I have lots of thumbs-up for that.

This is really helpful and I using this trick every time I converting my board into 3D design. With the latest build of EAGLE, replace component does not available. And the best Eagle version to use this feature is 9.5.3 or at least below 9.6.
And keep in note, adding custom 3d CAD file with Fusion Electronics is horrible.

I was looking for a 3D model for LT1085 but unfortunately, I wasn't able to generate it using the 3D package generator. Can anyone help?

Very helpful, any other good reason to learn Eagle

great video, thanks. Unfortunately the menu to "replace component body" does not exist in the version of Fusion360 I downloaded today. Do you know of a solution for this?

Yes, that is definitely from the newer version of eagle. Eagle 9.3 was used in this video. The replace comp feature doesn’t work with eagle 9.6 in my testing. Will be working on a follow up video

@@PatrickFelstead I had the same issue (latest 360 Personal + Eagle 3.6.2) - if you follow exporting the STP file and go back to Eagle right click on the component and select 'Add Custom 3D Package' and import the STP file it will apply it to your board. The just push the changes back to Fusion 360 and reload the document - a bit messy but it works. I think I will create all the components, add them to the board and then apply (in the long run it would be better to add the to the Eagle devices library).
