    May 2022 update: Fusion 360 has changed its UI and the component search function is no longer a pop-up window (as shown at 2:36) instead it now appears as a panel on the left-hand side. See this official Autodesk update video for more information ruclips.net/video/1ubwXFqwMZ0/видео.html There have been some other cosmetic changes to logos and symbols, but underneath the cosmetic changes, everything still functions as shown in this tutorial video
    Feb 2023 update: As pointed out by @RodStoddard, best practices are to include the parts name and value by adding placeholder text ">NAME" and ">VALUE" to both the component schematic and footprint.

      what about minute 13:13 the scene which click the button "Create New 3D model" ??? because that button is not shown in my fusion 360 software,

      @@ameiliaw8191 I am unable to reproduce your issue, I would recommend creating a post on the official Autodesk/Fusion 360 help forums and attaching a screenshot of what you see in your Fusion software for people in the Autodesk community to better help diagnose your issue. I'm unfortunately not able to offer much assistance on a platform like RUclips beyond what is shown in the video

      A simple task of adding apart to a schematic doesn't even work at all now...
      EDIT: I discovered that using the Command Line and typing ADD brings up the traditional parts window and works like in your video.
      The library manager is still very different.

    This series helped me create my first PCB a few months ago. No one else has a clearer explanation, especially when you have to create your own library and component.
    I donated some coffee before but I want the YT fam to know that this series is legit. Keep making videos Will!

    For reference, the boxed letter A in the datasheet is a Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) datum, not a label. The A is typically the primary datum, B is secondary, and C tertiary. This sets up the datum reference frame from which dimensions are measured from. Those letters will not correspond with the labels assigned in the Fusion package generator, or if they do it is just a coincidence. Great video!

    Your vid has a lot of necessary details that the official Autodesk videos lacked - thanks!
    I would have named pin 1 1OEN (N for Not) or 1OEB (B for Bar) to retain the information that the datasheet conveys by putting a bar over the OE (that it's an active-low signal).

      @@WillDonaldson You can also put an exclamation mark before 1OE, and Fusion360 will interpret that and put a bar over the pin name. So you would type !1OE, to get 1OE with the bar over it on the symbol pin.

    Hey Will, Thanks for making this tutorial. It helped me out a lot. 😁
    It would be great if you'd share the files for some of the components that you created (ESP8266, Potentiometer, etc.)
    Also, it would make this course absolute if you describe how to make custom PCB board outline from a DXF, importing other 3D models in a 3D Package and making custom copper pours for different regions in the same layer. (A great idea for an advanced tutorial)😄

    Thank you, I am experiienced with Fusion360 for making models for 3D printing but did not know where to start with Electronic PCB design. Just this video has got me a long way into the project I am working on. Just one little suggestion, try to slow down when you select icons etc, it is not always obvious where you have gone with your pointer. I had to replay many parts a number of times to work out what you clicked on. Doesn't help that Autodesk keeps updating and changing stuff. Not critizing just trying to give some positive feedback, Once again thank you.

    Hi, this is a very good 3 parts tutorial for beginners. However, I wish you have another video on how to create a library component from an Eagle design. Maybe the ESP8266 you used in your project. I looked across RUclips and all the videos I found just show Eagle to Fusion 360 3D models, none of them shows how to make an electronic component.

      Hi Andrea, thanks for your support on BuyMeACoffee. Honestly, I am a little rusty on Autodesk Eagle, I haven't used it in a few years and even then I only did a couple projects with it. I would probably not be the best person to create a tutorial for it, but I know there are a lot of parallels to Fusion.     Excellent videos! Can I ask why you turned on the grid when you created the symbol? It doesn't look like you drew it to scale and it doesn't seem necessary.

      Mostly force of habit, but you are right, the symbol is not drawn to scale. The grid helps me visualize even pin spacing but it is definitely not required

    thanks, man. The official Fusion 360 tutorials are hard to follow and Fusion 360 electronics is awful and very user unfriendly. However, I use Fusion 360 for all my 3-D modeling and 3-D printing, so out of convenience I reluctantly use Fusion 360 electronics so everything is in one place. Making a new component in Fusion 360 electronics really isn't that hard as long as there is a clear tutorial like this one.

    Really well organized tutorial, thank you. The library manager seems to have changed since you recorded this, as the GUI looks nothing like what's shown here : -(. I'm struggling to figure out how to just import the 3D model of a part into the library. The library manager does NOT make it obvious where that information is stored or how to import the model.

      I agree, it is not intuitive or optimized, I generally create a folder for storing 3D models and then link my component footprint to one of those models. There is no way (I am aware of) to import an external 3D model directly into a library

    You forgot to add text with ">NAME" to provide the part's name. You also forgot to set the part's prefix. The ">NAME" text should be in both the schematic symbol and PCB footprint in the library. To create elements with a value, you also need to add text that says ">VALUE" in both schematic and footprint.

    Hi at 10:01 you add pins, but you add 5 of them almost instantly, how did you do this?

      This was a jump cut in the video recording for brevity. I still manually placed those 5 pins, off camera. Not sure there is a way to add multiple at once. Sorry for the confusion!

    Could you show how to manage with real life footprint design? For example I couldn't find LM2596S component, but its footprint. Should I create my own library even if many other components base on the same footprint and 3D package? If yes - how to import them under Fusion/Electronics? The Eagle had scripts to do so.
    Probably for this component I have to crate my own pad shape. Ok, I can use polygon option for pad creation, but every segment of it requires manual transformation. There is no option to move polygon using mouse. There is no option to align polygon to pads or set distance from pads. If you want to do it - every segment of polygon must be calculated and typed in manually. Consequence is - when you doesn't want to spend whole day creating customized footprint, the task becomes impossible. Every application such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator would allow to create foot print in a minute. The same task under Fusion takes a day.
    It seems that creating your own components, which utilizes none standard shapes requires to spent hours instead minutes.

    I find the process of adding components tedious and time consuming for what I’m trying to achieve. I could manually draw out the 3 headers I wish to use faster than the available processes. But the appropriate options for manually laying out pads doesnt seem to exist at the end stage of “pcb design”

    Will, Love your videos quick and thorough! I am having a tough time trying to import Eletronic components with the symbol, footprint and 3D model that I downloaded from ultra-librarian that weren't anywhere in the Fusion library. I'm trying to save time from having to make all of the parts that I need as opposed to making each one from scratch. I am on a PC can you help me out or make a video showing how to do that I've combed through Autodesk to get help but cannot find any answers. Thanks for any help or resource you can refer me to.

      To be honest this isn't something I've done often as I usually build from scratch if I can't find the component I want within Fusion. I'm quite busy at the moment and don't know a smooth workflow for this off the top of my head. If I find the time, I will experiment and add my findings in a new comment. Or maybe someone else who sees this comment and knows the answer can reply?

      I recently found a workflow for importing that worked for me. For footprints, I download the library the. 1. Import it into my Fusion team database. 2. Create my own parts library (for e.g. my_IC-Digital). 3. In my library, I can import the component from the downloaded library that's in my Fusion team. 4. In my ECAD, I'll grab parts from that library I made. 5. For 3D models, I do a similar process of importing the model to Fusion team. 6. In the device, I create a new empty 3D model. 7. Drag the downloaded 3D model into this file and align to footprint, optionally unlink it so you can delete the original import to avoid duplicates.
      Basically I have my own libraries in Fusion teams that I use whenever I import footprints online. Hope this helps

    Well good! What I haven't seen though. Like I wanted to use this to design a cabinet, But then map out any of the components I use inside the cabinet, And workout the best placement. And being able to move objects around, plan the wiring route, Fan placements, Can you do that with Fusion 360?
    I've not seen anyone use it like I'm saying? but I've seen them do the aspects of what I'm saying. Like this video for instance, I didn't know you could have electrical components, But is that so you can build a custom a case and test how that component fits and so on?
    I haven't seen anyone do that specifically but I'm under that impression. I have been pointed to this program when I've explained it to someone. Because I'm unsure of the terminology they use to describe such programs' other than ''CAD'' Even then its all different categories. This program & Shapr3D on the surface is doing what I'm looking for.

    How do you dimension the symbol and footprint? My footprint ended up being much longer than the 3D component

      For both the symbol and footprint, I use the default grid settings as shown at 8:57 and 11:40, respectively. For the component footprint, my grid is a 1.27mm spacing, so by placing the PTH pads two grid lines apart the holes will be spaced 2.54mm as is standard for DIP-packages. Refer to the dimensions given on the datasheet if you are modeling a different component to me. Alternatively, the issue may be that the 3D component you selected in the package generator looks similar but is actually an SMD version (surface mount device) as opposed to a through-hole component

      You can customize an existing component. I didn't show it in the video but at @8:47 instead of typing a new symbol name, press the second button "import". You can then import an existing symbol and edit the labels. Similarly you can do the same process at @11:26 to customize an existing footprint. You will need to still create a new component by linking the symbol and footprint as shown at @16:26 onwards. Still a bit of work to do, but easier than creating a component from scratch
