  • The 2023 Ford Escape is a good hybrid. But it's hard to justify $44k for this with no sunroof or cooled seats, especially when its compact crossover rivals cost thousands less. TGH.

    Charlie, I am confident the friendly folks at Ford would call this a $44,000 bargain. 😉 On the subject of inflated hybrid pricing, a general ramp up in hybrid production across the industry should eventually return things to the saner level we saw in 2019.

      Yeah... like when all cars are hybrids they won't be able to charge a premium anymore! There's rumors that the RAV4 may go all hybrid in 2025. Once everything is a hybrid, does that mean dealers won't be able to tack on an extra $5k? I supposee?

    Hey Chalie, I really like your recent reviews having very clear and thoughtful points about vehicle's advantages and disadvantages throughout the entire video. Having some subjective feelings about the car is more important than reading out numbers and going through the functionalities one by one. We can get those numbers and specs from internet, but we can't get the feeling and thats what we need. Thank you!

    Ironic that everyone hates the Escape hybrid, but everyone loves the Maverick Hybrid that is based on the Escape.

    What makes this car different from others? I can tell you. In Germany the car is called KUGA. I test drove the plug-in hybrid and the full hybrid, both are really convincing. The special thing about FORD is its chassis. You can take a highway curve at 200 km/h without any problem, as if the thing were running on rails. Then I ordered the full hybrid straight away. Costs €56,000, cars have become more expensive in recent years. Unfortunately, it won't be available for another 5-6 months. This will be my 9th Ford and I can't wait!👍

      I am sure kuga is built to a higher standard and specification vs the NA Escape.

    Drop the Elite from ST Select and you are down to $35,000 after rebates and it looks the same. My 2020 Escape hybrid has the panoramic sunroof and other goodies and stickered for under $35,000.

    The gas door locks - requiring a button that takes no effort to push - because the hybrid uses a pressurized fuel system.

    This is so true, I was building and pricing an escape an getting no quilted leather seats, panoramic sunroof and B&O sound system on the top of the line Platinum abd ST line elite is some serious price gouging on Ford's part. Everything should be standard on the top of the line platinum and st line elite, so unless Ford gives you all those things standard like the Kia sportage, Hyundai Tucson or Nissan Rogue, it's a no for me. The interior is also the worst in the class. I was only looking at the escape because I like the exterior looks.

    Ford dealerships in New England are already giving out discounts on these. Out here the RAV-4s and CR-Vs hybrids go for 3k-5k over MSRP, and you’re lucky if you find a new RAV-4 in the lot. The only advantage of going with the Escape is that it will be easier to buy.

    I agreed. Recently I bought mazda 3, for those size car over 40K price tag without special character is really disagreeable. Still need destination fee, tax, it's will reach 50k for final payment. No.

    I leased a pretty loaded 2022 Escape SEL PHEV last fall and am very happy with it. My dealer did not mark it up and I was able to negotiate a great deal. I really have been impressed with the adaptive cruise control and speed limit tracking. Of course, the mileage has been awesome since I have access to a class 2 charger 24/7 (rent adder). Unfortunately, like the Rav4 the PHEV model was hard to find on dealer lots til recently.

    These new escapes are even cheaper than before. I work at enterprise we have one of these only 5k miles and the drls don't work on one side. Ford says 3 months to order new parts.

    The ST-Line Select through Platinum hybrid trims from $33-38k seem like the best choices in the Escape lineup. 44k for this one seems too high considering its basically a sport appearance pack + suspension tune on a platinum.

    I bought the more basic version of the Ford Escape. I wanted the Hybrid that was not a plug-in. I am happy with the car so far. Mine is getting 39.5 MPG. That works for me. Mine is not all-wheel drive or any of the features that your test drive car has. I needed a small SUV that can fit 5 people and has some room in back for stuff. I only paid about 34 thousand. I just need a basic transportation car with good gas mileage. Thoughts?

    Interesting pricing over in the US. The European version offers some of the cheapest hybrid options on the market for the price point.

    Thanks for the video Charlie. I’m considering a used Escape Hybrid ST Elite, as a car I can flat tow behind my motor home. (Escape Hybrid has this capability), would you consider a used 2023 model a buy, at mid to low 30k, with very low milage?

    • @DailyMotor
      @DailyMotor  3 месяца назад

      Myself personally, for that use of car, would get something more used and cheaper, but perhaps you have different needs for your flat tow vehicle.

      Wife wants something nice, only wants one car! We tow a 2014 CRV right now. I’m also looking at the 22 Corsair hybrid. Can’t decide! Maybe just stay with the CRV!

    • @DailyMotor
      @DailyMotor  3 месяца назад

      @@johnc3225 Hah, I understand. I would personally keep the CR-V. Will likely be more reliable than the new Ford products if properly maintained. However, if you must get something new, the Escape would be fine, but I really expect a falling out of car values in the next few years, so your $30k Escape might be a $19k Escape quickly

    • @johnc3225
      @johnc3225 3 месяца назад

      Yikes! I have a feeling you might be right. Prices are falling every day. I really don’t know what to do, perhaps your right. My CRV is a great car! And easy to tow. I really want a Maverick Lariat, Hybrid, (again only the hybrid models are flat-towable). I know the Maverick is nothing more than an escape with a mini truck body, but wife doesn’t want a pickup truck as our only car! But it makes the most sense, utility and cargo capacity wise!

    Question for the DM Team: So given how the market is currently readjusting, with domestics starting to take the hit first, would you saw the Escape Hybrid is a strong value now compared to the competition on the used market? Ex: 20-23 Rav4 hybrids are commanding high 20's to mid 30's and Primes are mostly high 30's to mid 40s. CRV's are mid to high 20's and up due to the new model. I'm seeing low mile escape 2021 titaniums on market for 24-28k.

    • @DailyMotor
      @DailyMotor  9 месяцев назад

      As with most cars, the "worth it" factor shifts dramatically depending on how inexpensively you can get the car. I would take an equivocally-specced Escape over a RAV4 or CR-V if it cost about $4k less.

  • @jonj77
    @jonj77 11 месяцев назад

    Very much agree! Ford Escape is a good car, but there's no reason it should cost $5k-$7k more for a similarly equippd Hyundai Tucson. I think MSRP should be reduced by about $5k on every trim. lol... I also think they should have, at least, included a normal moonroof on all the top trims, and perhaps provide option to upgrade to the full pano roof.
    The Lexus NX, for example, could be had at $45k with a moonroof. It's just overpriced.

    This specific unit is overpriced for what it is but for those Ford-loyal people, the Escape Hybrids start at around 34k… it’s really all about what added goodies you want in your vehicle.

    • @DailyMotor
      @DailyMotor  11 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, overall the car didn't do anything terribly wrong, and I like the powertrain. Look at the way Ford does the Maverick lineup: XL, XLT, Lariat. Pick a few options within those trims. That's how I'd like the Escape, and it was that way until very recently. An Escape SEL for $35k would be a very fine car. Or an SE for $31k.

    • @jonj77
      @jonj77 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@DailyMotor Agreed. Main issue is the pricing and packaging, for sure. I have a 2012 SEL Ford Focus. I was able to get upgraded sound system and moonroof w/o jumping to top trim. And, more of the premium items should be included in the MSRP for top trims.
      If I'm already buying a top trim, they should just include the the premium sound and, at least, a normal size moonroof... for the price they're asking.

      @@DailyMotor really? "Upgrade" is generous term for Honda's CRV. Even screen size is ancient. The Escape is absolutely overpriced, but I am still overpaying for a Honda still and you get visibly less on the interior.
