Love your videos. I just picked up my new 2024 Crosstrek and paid for the 3-year STARLINK plan. I wasn’t offered the 5-year option. I am going to ask for that upgrade. Thanks for the tip! I’ve learned so much from your videos while waiting for delivery!
Your videos Alex are so helpful. I get my new Ascent Touring sometime this week and I am finding it very hard to wait. The only good thing coming from this wait is your channel and your sharing of knowledge.
I didn’t think I would use this feature much since I work from home. That is until I was on a walk and unsure if I locked my car. It’s so nice to make sure without having to return to the car.
I used to like it. Had to cancel this year. I would pay $99 a year to remote start, but not $149. And you HAVE to pay $149. Don’t get fooled by the separate plans for remote start. If you want remote start you have to buy both.
Every car I’ve owned for the last 20+ years has had a remote start on the key fob that worked everywhere, irregardless of cellular service. Such a shame to see car companies doing things like this just to nickel & dime consumers into paying for an app to replace a free feature. Next thing you know there will be a fee to open your gas tank door…
Thanks for this tutorial, I just purchased a 2024 Outback Premium to replace my 2011 Outback Premium (over 266,000 miles). I'm pretty geeked about the upgrade and the many features that I will soon be enjoying. I'm looking forward to trying this out.

I've learned so much about Xanadu, my 2021 Crosstrek Sport, from watching your videos! Thank you so much for providing this service! Here's my question. I have the My Subaru app, and love it by-the-way, especially on a cold East Tn morning. Is there a way to disable the horn beeping once indicating the signal was received and then beeping twice indicating she has started? I really don't like announcing that I'm about to leave home or possibly disturbing my neighbors early in the morning or late at night. Thank you in advance for taking the time to address my question.
Hi. I love the remote start feature. I start the cold car as I put on my shoes while upstairs, then come downstairs and go. Is there a way to disable the horn honking? This can be annoying to my neighbors when I head out to the gym at 6 am.
@@craig1082I don’t believe u can as even if u were to get it third party installed u usually have to lock it which makes the horn sound just to start it up
Thank you you for the description; it matches how I set it up everything up with Granite Subaru, in Hudson NH. I bought my car in March of 2024 and didn't realize that my key fob did not have the remote start feature. Using the app on my first day was easy. However, I'm encountering an issue where the app repeatedly doesn't recognize my account and prompts me to receive an email with a code. I hope this gets resolved soon because it takes away from the quick time to start my car.
I like the remote start from the app, but it's kind of cumbersome and a remote start on the fob would be better for me... I came from a Domestic pickup that could be started with the fob OR an app, I usually use the remote start on my way out to the car and it takes longer to "sign in" and send the signal than it did to just use the fob. The lock and location features I really dig though. I was on a flight and couldnt remember if I locked my doors in the airport parking lot - with the app I was able to confirm locked from the gate... that was cool.
Very helpful videos that you make. I got a 2023 Forester Touring model in Canada. Is it possible to keep the headlights off while starting the on My Subaru app? I have to park the car in a communal parking lot and i might be annoying my neighbors with extremely bright headlights.
Does it warn you and send you notification if your doors are unlocked? And it would be nice if the app shows you the actual status of your car ie. Doors locked, trunk locked, engine off, range of your fuel level, window and sunroof open/closed
I just bought my 1st Subaru! A 2020 Ascent Touring. Is the key fob also supposed to remote start it? I saw 1 thing say to lock 2x, then hold lock for 3 seconds but it doesn't work.Your videos have been super helpful!
Great video. When I use the app to start my 2024 Crosstrek the AC comes on even in the winter. I tried everything and the AC still starts. Any suggestions? Thank you.
This also works with the 2019 and newer Forester. During the winter I keep my heated seats in the “High” position all the time. This program won’t turn on your heated steering wheel.

I have that app and remote start my wife's 2023 forester. I noticed on your app there's "trip tracker" which we don't have on ours, can you tell me why is that.
Not by default meaning it dont work driving your car off the dealer lot. After downloading the mysubaru app you have to hit the upgrade button with takes you to the subscriptions. When you purchase the subscription the first 6 months are free i think. Its $4.95 / month after.
Hi Alex ,we are going to buy a new car and we have looked at the cx5 and love the Subaru Forester but are a bit worried about the boxer engine and the CVT transmission would appreciate your advice.regards
The CVT and Boxer engine have been around for decades now so they have had time for improvements. I wouldn't worry about CVT or engine issues, since we don't see this often on the newer models. Both Mazda and Subaru make a great product. I personally prefer the ride quality of Subaru more, but you can't go wrong with either when it comes to reliability. Best of luck in your search!
I have a 23' Outback and finding that the remote fob does not have the distance that my previous Outbacks did to open the doors or Hatch. Have you any information on this?
You’d think they’d charge less for having a forester with less available features. Is it true that you can only choose between starlink or apple car play/android auto?
I just got my first even Subaru on December 26th, al good so far, but one thing I don't like about it, is that it seems or at least I have not found a way to change that, is that to start your engine with the app with AC off, it seems the app forces you to choose what to do with the AC, but I don't want it to do anything, just want to start it up! anyway rant's over. :)
After watching this video yesterday, I tried starting our new Outback wilderness using the app. On my iphone 15, the app loaded then froze. On my wife's identical iphone 15, the app worked. Looks like I need to reinstall the app on my phone. Then tried turning on the heat (was cold yesterday), but the only setting we found was for max heat, so it was like an oven when we got inside the Wilderness. Is that how the app is supposed to work - no way to turn the heat on except to the max?
can you get remote start on a subaru purchased in Massachusetts today? I know Subaru was fighting with Massachusetts re repair shop access to subaru data

If you want to use the app, you'll need the mysubaru starlink subscription. If you don't want to use the app, you'll have to purchase another key fob and hardware. The cost of parts + labor usually outweighs the benefits so most people use the app instead.
Too bad it’s only supported within USA and Canada! Is there a way wherein I can access that and enjoy the feature? I am in Asia and just recently got the 2024 Ascent Touring. But the Starlink in my unit says expiry on 10/26/2026 so the car shld come with the subscription.
There is a remote start function using keyfob (lock)+(lock)+(lock+hold), what to do if the car doesn't start that way? I heard a 'service mode' might be enabled, how to check its status and disable it to make the remote start operational? App method is not available. Thank you.
Just got a 2024 Forester Limited w/Starlink Safety Plus, remote start doesn't work without cell service, I live in an area w/o cell service. Car is push button start. The car indicates it is connected to my home WIFI, but it seems it is only for telematics comms and updates. My Starlink and MySubaru app are installed and account is active.

Alex, I bought a new subaru outback 2022 that came with a 3 year starlink.contract..but I can't figure out how to use the auto start. Now that it's winter in Vermont. I'd like to be able to auto start my car from my phone.....do I need to talk to someone at the dealership where I bought it?
The free 3 year starlink is something different from the remote start. The free part is the red SOS button and the Information blue button on the ceiling. Im sure you already figured it out now as this question is 6 months old.
Is there a way to NOT have the heater/air on? I just want the engine to warm and I’ll turn on the heat once I get in the car. I don’t see an option to not have the climate control on.
So you’re telling me I had no idea that using my remote was hooked into my starlink. Since I have a new car and I just purchased the three-year plan, can I go back and get the five-year plan I’ve only had my car for less than a month.
I have a 2018 But I do have the Subaru installed remote start. Would this app work for that? When I first got the remote start, I was able to use the Starlink app to start my car but that’s been a few years.
I don't think it's on the 2018 unfortunately. I first saw this on our 2019 Forester and Ascent models and then later it was added to the 2020 models like the Outback, Legacy, Crosstrek, Impreza, etc.
I have a key on my 23' so unfortunatly this isn't available to me. Not sure why Subaru couldn't make this available to both ignition styles if it's a feature you have to pay for via subscription.
I have a 2018 Forester Touring and I cannot remote start using the app. I wish i knew that before I paid the $150. I called customer service for a refund but they only gave me a 50% discount. There should be something on the site stating which vehicles can use this feature up front.
Great video my sales person said it’s only $100 for the first year and then 150 thereafter but you’re saying it’s $100 for the first three years. I don’t wanna go through my sales person they are too busy. How do I look this up? Great video thank you for the info.
It's $100 for the first 3 years on a new car purchase or $150/year on a used car. It's typically easier to go through your Subaru salesperson but if you're not able to reach them I'd call Subaru Starlink directly at 1-855-753-2495.
This is a good reminder for me to check to see if I need to do any maintenance on my vehicle. I used to use this to warm up my car when I was parking outside. But now I get to park in a large garage, which is heated during the winter. Thank you again for keeping us informed. God bless.
available on some 2019 models like the Ascent and the Forester as well. Must subscribe and you must have push button start. It's $150/year on pre-owned cars. Hope this helps!
Our 23 ascent app remote start worked perfect, our new 24 ascent remote start app only worked in front of the dealership. Is there some setting that will let it work Like our 23, very frustrating
No changes have been made so it should work just the same. It does require cell service or WiFi connection to work. If it’s not working, you may have an issue with the DCM. I’d have your retailer take a look at it asap so you can get it sorted out while still under warranty.
Does the My Subaru App need WiFi? I've been in a couple of places where the remote start would not work because there was no WiFi service. Also, I thought the Starlink app was discontinued.
Why does the air conditioner come on when you use remote start? I start my car with the Subaru remote app and go to get in and the air is running. I didn’t set it up for air, I set it up for heat. Someone said this is by design.

Can you lock car from app if the car is running?
Great video my sales person said it’s only $100 for the first year and then 150 thereafter but you’re saying it’s $100 for the first three years. I don’t wanna go through my sales person they are too busy. How do I look this up? Great video thank you for the info.
It's $100 for the first 3 years on a new car purchase or $150/year on a used car. It's typically easier to go through your Subaru salesperson but if you're not able to reach them I'd call Subaru Starlink directly at 1-855-753-2495.
Do you have to pay to use the subaru app?
Yes, 150/year on used cars. When purchasing new, you get a discount. $100 for 3 years, $175 for 4 years, or $250 for 5 years total.
But don't you have to have that star thing active?
This is a good reminder for me to check to see if I need to do any maintenance on my vehicle. I used to use this to warm up my car when I was parking outside. But now I get to park in a large garage, which is heated during the winter. Thank you again for keeping us informed. God bless.
2020 and younger models. Does it also costs to subscribe???
available on some 2019 models like the Ascent and the Forester as well. Must subscribe and you must have push button start. It's $150/year on pre-owned cars. Hope this helps!
Hi Alex is it possible to start the car remotely without the clyment control turned on? I tried and I couldn't.
Yes. You can create / save presets that you configure. I made a Summer preset and a winter preset.
i bought subaru leagcy 2021 but i dont have remote start
My daughter was in an accident with my 2024 outback limited. There was no contact from Subaru, nor did emergency get called.
Yea needs to be online in order to use. The biggest draw back and almost enough to make me want to remote
Can’t remote start manual transmission models.
Why does the air conditioner come on when you use remote start? I start my car with the Subaru remote app and go to get in and the air is running. I didn’t set it up for air, I set it up for heat. Someone said this is by design.
Any answers?
