When the sides are bubbling and the cheese is almost to brown its done. The kids and husband love it. I hate it. Never had any left overs. Cheap and easy.

Let my empty Foodi cast iron skillet heat up for around 2 minutes, then cook the corned beef in the skillet for five minutes. I carefully flip and cook an additional 5 minutes, then I stir up the hash, make a hole in the center and crack an egg and let the egg cook for 3 minutes covered, I stir and then dump and stir in the cheddar cheese. Delicious. I use to just nuke a can and then put an egg and nuke some more and then dump the cheese, but it's way too soggy doing it this way (but edible; lol). Sometimes it takes time to get a delicious result and the time is well worth it. :)

    When I cook z full blown corned beef dinner I always make 4 or 5 extra corned beef briskets; then I have plenty on hand in the freezer. If you've never made hash from cooked brisket, you've never really had corned beef hash.

    Rinsing corned beef hash and then adding oil to something that has plenty of fat to begin with is asinine. The fat that comes out of it washes away enough of the sodium. As for corned beef, slice it straight out of the can and make sandwiches. My favorite is on untoasted Roman Meal bread with mayo. Great summer sandwich

    I am a simple man with simple tastes. I get a frying pan going with a good splash of olive oil coating the middle of the pan. Throw in a little less than a 1/4 stick of butter. Then I fry the hell out of it until both sides are cooked and one side has a crunchy crust. Eat with ketchup or Newman's mango salsa medium. That's some good basic eats.

    Fat and cholesterol from eggs is good for your health. Back in the 50's and 60's people thought fat, eggs, butter, cheese were bad for your health. These days that has been proved to be wrong. I lowered my cholesterol from 440 to 169 by eating a lot of eggs, bacon, butter, and fat. Millions of others have done the same thing.

    idk about the corned beef, but my mom used the canned corn beef hash often for quick (and cheap) dinners for our family - mom/dad/4 kids.
    right out of tht can, it's pretty unremarkable - in fact, it's disturbingly resembles dog food 😬
    but her method of prep was pretty delicious. Chill the unopened can of hash for about an hour. She would open both ends of the can and slide it out. ( chilling makes this easy) she'd slice the "loaf" of hash into patties and gently flatten with a spatula. This video says don't use grease ..ignore that tip, and brush a generous amount of Crisco oil on bottom of cast iron pan. Heat the oiled pan till very hot, even slightly smoking, than place patties in the pan and don't touch. Let the patties fry for about 4-5 minutes than flip. The darker and crispier the better. she'd usually make mashed potatoes or home fries in the same pan. She fixed them the same way whether for breakfast or lunch, they are delicious mashed into grits and eggs. I haven't had cbhash in a while. But thinking about my mom's ...I'm getting a craving! I know there's always a can somewhere on the pantry shelf.
    Bon Appetit! 😊

    If you render off the fat, can you save the fat for use later? Would this be considered the same thing as beef tallow (the stuff that McDonald's used to fry its french fries in)?

    • @michelepastele5347
      @michelepastele5347 Год назад +1

      I have made beef tallow by getting beef bones from Whole Foods, putting them on a soft boil with water to cover, placing them in a bowl and
      refrigerating the covered bowl. The fatty essence of the beef bones is the 'tallow' and it can make a great broth. I've never tried it for frying.
      but it has been good in soups. Because Corned Beef has some spices or other ingredients besides beef, i do not think that using the fat from the canned corned beef would be the same as tallow. I'm no expert though - just my opinion and what I've experienced.
