I absolutely adore this painting. SERIOUSLY! You've made me want to go back to oils again. I started painting watercolors a few years back. BUT... I REALLY MISS MY OILS NOW! 🤗
This is so interesting to hear how you've used the same 3 colours throughout a lot of the painting. Excellent commentary and obviously I love the finished painting!
Thank you BBG! I recently posted a painting of sunflowers on my Instagram page a short video of which I aim to post on Instagram this coming week! 📽🌻❤️
Great video! I found this one to be one of the best ones you've made yet! Full of helpful information. I really appreciate you taking the time to record, edit and post these.
@@ClareBowenArtist I'm afraid I have fixated on mandarin oranges. But the lemons will be my next victims! brentbrown.art/images/peeledorange.png I always overwork my paintings :(
Thank you for the effort of preparing this still life painting, filming the process, editing and posting this video: this is enjoyable and highly instructive, not to forget MOTIVATIONAL: it makes me want to go paint! Loli
Love the video! It is fascinating what you are able to do with 3 colors. Also showing how you changed brushes really helps. I tend use one or two brushes and try to make the brush do things it can’t.
Weirdly enough, some years ago, in a different time and phase, I found cerulean and raw umber was a wonderfully beautiful and useful color. It probably sounds weird but try it!
Hi Clare, Not sure if still life is a change of genre for you on this occasion, as you are mainly an En Plien Air Painter, from the number of videos I have seen since prescribing to your channel, but it was very rewarding watching your "still life" process in creating this lovely piece of artwork. Thanks for the tutorial and three colour demo.🎉😊
Hi Paul, I enjoy still life as well as plein and landscape/seascapes. I like having variety keeps me interested and inspired! ☺️ I’m pleased you enjoyed the video!
I think today is the first time your videos have showed up in my feed. I love this painting and think you’ve done a superb job on the video! So very helpful to hear thoughts, logic & color choices. Just subscribed!
I love the colors in this painting so much. The background is divine. I am trying to find a class…desperately. There’s only so many RUclips videos I can watch. What is this style of painting called? Any chance I could use acrylics (I have so many Golden acrylics) I want to learn tonal values in color. Any suggestions of a name of class I would look for? I’m so sick of being self taught I could scream. ♥️😁
Thank you for your comment! The style is called Impressionism! Not sure you can use acrylics but don’t know for sure as I have never used them myself. I know Kevin McPherson’s book has some stuff about tonal values which may help. I suppose the thing to do is find a class and before joining check out whether they cover tonal values in colour. 👩🏻🎨❤️
Hi Clare, This is such a great video, so useful to hear your colour choices and watch you paint. I have watched is several times! Could you please tell me if you are using any medium and what type? I love painting with oils but always want them to be more fluid. Thanks so much!
Hi Sanjana! I mostly use Jacksons Artist quality oil paints. Titanium, cad lemon yellow, cad yellow, raw Sienna , scarlet lake, permanent rose, Viridian, cerulean, cobalt, ultramarine & cobalt violet Scarlet lake is a Winsor & Newton
Une belle réalisation bien contrastée et harmonieuse. À mon sens, «l'effet beurre» ( l'empattement de la peinture) est quelque peu excessif pour une nature morte car il limite nécessairement l'ajout de détails fins. Bien cordialement.
I am so sorry for not replying to your question! I am ashamed to say I couldn’t remember offhand so checked back but had no luck. I am not using that size anymore……🙈
Hi, I'm new to oil painting, when you added the midtones and highlights, did you do it with a medium? or did you paint the first layers with thinner? or am i not understanding the "Thick over Thin" rule
Hello the first layer is with gamsol. 2nd is with a smaller amount if gamsol then no gamsol for final layer. This makes it thicker and thicker and my brush is loaded more at the end stages too. Hope that helps. Happy painting! Clare 😊
Very... fresh and painterly outcome! Excellent brushwork! Are you using any medium with your paint? I noticed some very good paint flow when you were painting the left side of the background. Was it done alla prima? I noticed that you had no issues with the paint layers, where I usually get a slippery, muddy mess... Anyway, many thanks for the demo!
Hi Dimitris thank you I’m pleased you like it! 🍋 it was done Alla Prima in one go on one day. I used turpentine to thin the layer to start. It helps not to go too thick to quickly. A base first then thick over the top. Last layer no turps. Hope this helps. Best wishes Clare
What brand of scarlet red is this? I’ve never used scarlet but see different color names of paint that include the name in like parole scarlet, or Naphthal scarlet etc…
I love the simplicity of this painting. All the unnecessary details have been omitted. Great job.
Thank you very much Brent!❤️
