I don't know where you're located, but in my area in the US, I can get foamcore from office supply stores and craft stores. The tiles can accommodate up to .25", but 5mm is a more common thickness. 4mm could work as well - just try not to squish the sides of the tiles. 3mm thick might be a pushing it - if you HAVE to use 3mm foamcore, it might be better to sandwich TWO pieces together, for a 6mm thick piece, which is just under the .25" maximum.
