What was your most difficult riding day?
The one I couldn't walk home.
In Colorado, Black bear pass in the morning and Himogene in the snow in the afternoon. Topped off with a very wet and cold ride back in Gunnison. Some rides are a lot of pain and misery, but make for epic memories of a life lived to the fullest
Mudflats of the NT where we did 100km in 15 hours and sent a helicopter back to pick up one left behind.
Refreshingly honest and therefore different to what's already out there.
Awesome achievement on a GS! I did the trip on a Honda XL350 around 40 years ago. Great to see that the tar did not happen on the pass.
Long Way Home. The place where getting your motorcycle news is easier than riding Sani Pass in the fog. But not by much.

Doing sani pass in sunny conditions would have been no challenge on that lovely smooth road. I thought you would have done a Popey, got off your bike and kissed the tarmac. Great footage, ride of a lifetime. I enjoyed every bump. Must do it again.

I feel so bad for you guys. I too have traveled in the USA to the top of Mt. Washington 4 times ($17.00 each time). Each time it was 75+ degrees or higher Farenheight with clear skies, and at the top 30 degrees, cloud covered with icy cold misty wind. I guess I'll just keep doing it until I get a clear day :-)

Sani pass on such big bikes……respect! What tires do you have on the GS?
That’s some technical riding, I can imagine the slickness but I haven’t been in high elevation since my ride up mount Washington and you could feel that, especially when the storm moved in as we approached the top, but that’s not as high.
Great video, Calin, as always. :) You guys had a tough ride to the top of Africa due to the weather. During the rainy season I'd advise to ride the Sani Pass in the mornings, because the chances for good weather are much better.
You do these difficult rides so we don't have to. :^D
Too bad you were not able to enjoy the scenery but maybe doing it in the fog was less scary because you could not see the drop offs if you were to tip over the road's edge?

Loving following your trip, here in New Zealand I use “Scenic motorcycle navigation” app on iPhone to find my way, all maps are downloaded so no need for a network connection, fantastic app designed by bikers.

Problem with Waze is no offline maps. Problem with Google Maps is it won’t calculate a new route offline. Problem with Garmin is the UI, UX, and software all suck.

I was scared for you. attempting Sani pass i heard is a challenge in itself in a perfect weather, you've done it in such a awful conditions and that too with such heavy bike. Amazing. Ride safe.
One question: what tool do you use to make the text in your yt thumbnail lie flat on the road?

Yes. It doesn’t charge with a normal wireless charger. Otherwise perfect.
How come you don’t stand up on the bike for stability and let the bike and suspension do it’s thing?

Don't blame you for complaining--not sure who told you that was a road, but I'd sue them when you get home. That said, curious to know how those fancy BMW adventure suits worked out in that miserable weather--were dry underneath or just kind of dry?

Ah ah ah. You guys did well considering your heavy GS with a 19" front wheel and street-oriented suspension. An F850 GS would have been better suited... Thumb up anyway :-)

👍👍👍👍👍👍 And some words too : what did I want to say...??? 🤔🤔 Oh YE ☝☝😀😀 - I, offcourse, do understand why bikers have the huge side-boxes, and become as wide as a car, but - REALLY ?!? So many times I've oserved guys on bikes just like yours, and with luggage, just like yours - stand still in traffic jams - with all the cars - for hours....
So - if your bikes combined, use more fuel than an avarege car ( even a small 4x4 ), take place as a car, but still, have less space than a car for your things + the traction on bad roads is also far worse than of a car - why not to travel by a CAR ?!? - because you need the fear of falling, getting stuck, getting wet....?
One thing is to trave relatively light - like that Dutch girl - ItchyBoots.... another - like you - BIIIIG bikes, BIIIIG side-boxes..... Where is the fun ? 🤔🤔

I imagine that "road" would be so nice on something powerful and heavy as a CRF 300L.
You struggle there because that BMW lacks power. I had the same issue on the T7, way too light weight to be stable too.
Yea, but we did 450km that day. Sani pass was just 8. For the rest i wouldn’t wanna be on a 300L.
@@LongWayHome I would. Did 400km+ on a 125, loaded with side and top cases, and loved it. A 300L would be a delight. Unless BMW sponsored me.😉
