if the appropriate govt. commutes the sentence of life imprisonment of any person than the govt. can commute the punishment for a period which should not exceed 14years. in simple language, agar govt life imprisonment ki sentence ko kam kar rhi h toh govt 14 ya 14 se kam saal ki sja de skti hai . mtlb ki agar kisi ko Umar kaid hai or agr govt uski sja Kam krti hai toh usse 14 ya 14 se kam ki sja milegi 14 se jyada nhi kar skte.
Explanation of section 55 is doubtful...as it should be like.... it states if punishment is life imprisonment then it may be commuted but not less then 14 years. Such person have to spend his life in jail atleast for 14 years n not less then that. Don't know what u have explained
