RRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, what games do you have on the docket?
@Brian the Trainer Avatar is not Disney... Its Fox. And before you say it; yes. I know about the merger... However, it will be YEARS before Disney fully owns everything Fox has made... And something tells me that Fox will still be the same as it was before...
I'll wait for that video but gotta say I for sure did not like it the main point of me getting the game made me regret getting it.
I feel like the biggest plot hole that was never addressed was this... Is Sora's mother still waiting for him with that dinner? Thats like the saddest part of the whole franchise. SCREW the hearts! WHAT ABOUT THE DINNER?!?!!?
Yeah we never get to see his spikey haired parents O.o
Jeremy Henson well kairi goes to school in KH2, then gets kidnapped by axel, and with nobody powers probably makes people avoid noticing by some method. Asiiiiiide from that, I imagine kairi would've explained everything. Or...tried to? During her time back on the destiny isles. We only see the islands, but there is a mainland not far away where everyone actually lives.
Jeremy Henson I thought Destiny Island is the island they play on that they get to by boat and the island next to it is where they live.
@@sasutomato It is. Destiny Islands is indeed where they play and their home is just the mainland.
superdog619 I found a leak of KH4. Basically the Master of Masters is Sora’s mom. Here’s the connection between the two.

There you go. It’s not a plot hole, see?

Actually I want to sell it :D. But waiting for the DLC to make sure I won't regret it.
Hahaha what plot
Reality is whatever I want it to be!
@@MrSuperAJ i sold mine right after beating it, which i really had to force myself to do. no amount of dlc was gonna fix this garbage game for me. worst in the entire series for me, no joke. worst combat, worst story, worst voice acting, worst art style, worst everything. i seriously don't understand how any fan of the series could not be extremely disappointed by 3. i was really hyped for this game and really wanted to love it but nothing about this game hooked me or even gave me the slightest desire to continue playing it.

I’ve been watching a lot of reviews and thoughts about KH3 from other people, but seeing that you made your own review video made me so happy. Kinda like, “oh, there’s dessert too?” feeling. I feel like this is a well balanced, thought out review and I actually started the series around the same time when I started watching you (thank you for the beginners videos haha). So, watching your video felt like a rounded up video of my final thoughts (without the spoilers cause a lot of people who haven’t even started the series have been asking about my thoughts). Overall, great video, love the humor (as always) and loved the wrap up (yes I watched till the end)! Can’t wait for the newer (spoilers included) video to show up!
My most favourite new "gimmick" is the fact, that Sora Dolan, Goobz and any other Disney sidekick have interactions and dialogues outside of cutscenes nad "press triangle to talk". Sora being so happy about playing in snow and voicing that or Rapunzel having fun outside of her Tower is just too pure and it absolutely tingles my heart in best way. UwU
"Name me a game series with over nine entries, where each is crucial to the emotional character-driven plot"
Trails-series. It's lengthy and wordy, but it's very character-driven, does a really good job of building up its world, has some mind-blowing plot twists, multi-layered characters, some really great music, and everything is done through long build-ups with massive payoff. It's one hell of a ride. Start with Trails in the Sky. Have fun.
Oh, and I would also like to suggest Yakuza, although it only has 7 games, technically. Still, it's very character driven, and it's known to get emotional.
Seriously, if you love Kingdom Hearts, and need another series to dive headfirst into, then try these two. It's really good stuff.
Just started Yakuza its good 👍🏽
@@kyestar88 This is absolutely not true. Many would argue the opposite, I think, but I like the CS cast as well. Only somewhat forgettable character in TitS is Zin. But I suspect the upcoming Calvard arc will rectify that.
@@kyestar88 That's fair. Everyone has different tastes.
Yakuza reminds of KH in the way every game is a part of one continuous story coupled with gameplay that's remained more or less consistent over the years. Just with a lot more consistency and somehow even goofier AND more dramatic.
Umm, final fantasy?
I’m very upset that we didn’t get a Roxas/ven, terra/ Riku, xion / sora conversation. So many characters needed to talk
EXACTLY
We did get a Xion/Sora conversation though.
Melleberg Awesome Sauce that was not a conversation about any of the past events. That was just sora saying he feels the hurt to stop fighting. Plus that 1 min of dialogue is definitely not enough to give any satisfying conclusion.
This was one of the very few letdowns I had with the game.
Diogo Luiz Barcellos Volpi gameplay was good. Story, I dont know. I had a lot of questions like what happened to demyx, lingering will and Kairi. Why is xion working for the organization again? How did she get a body? In the last world, why is the unchained chi animal there? Isn’t he a dream eater. So many questions.
“I want to Re:mind everybody before we talk about dlc”

Wayne Dorsey actually not every time. The biggest affect is in the Arendelle world. I know now you’re saying this guy is talking nonsense but, here it’s. Do u remember the messy that happened in the keyblade graveyard when they see Terranort actually there’s context that nobody noticed or a few. When larxene told sora they were set in “Arendelle” she think its mistake but, xemnas said let them know so they panic and panic leads to lack of preparation. That’s the biggest thing that fixed my issue in storyline ‘still there’s flaw its kingdom hearts game 🤷🏽♂️
Not gonna lie, that final thoughts section was fire
My Opinon.
Let’s face it. Kingdom Hearts 3 had a tall order to fill. Were there too many expectations to fill. Yes.
Was it a great game?
Yes.
Do I think there should have been a smidgen of more content?
Yes.
I would’ve liked to see what happened to Leon and the others in Radiant Garden. Oh, and also actually traveling through Radiant Garden to see what changed. Plus one final secret boss battle against Sephiroth. Overall, great gameplay, I am overall satisfied with the game. I give it an 8.5 out of 10. Wishful thinking in hoping there will be a Kingdom Hearts 3 Final Mix.
Same
Very much agreed. I just want to emphasize how happy I was playing it though.
7b7Ben pretty much this, though I personally am not fussed about the absence of FF characters (since I Originally got into the franchise through Disney) I do sympathise with the fans that are the opposite and got through it via FF.
But in my opinion, FF were just glorified cameos that didn’t serve a major purpose or gameplay value. You only get 1 boss fight in the games they appear and only briefly team up with them sometimes (but hardly often)
Yep, pretty much this exactly lol. I was never broken up about the absence of FF characters (I actually forgot they were even missing), but yeah, I wouldn't mind following up with Leon in Radiant Garden.
To be honest, a lot of people brought it upon themselves. In my unprofessional opinion, Too many people had ridiculous, delusional, and stupid high expectations for this game. Knowing good and well that they had a hard time using the unreal 4 engine and had to get the green thumb from Disney/Pixar. Not to mention, people were too and I mean TOO fuckin impatient. They forget that it's not their creation but Square's and Disney's. If you don't like it then don't buy it. Not to mention it's not M rated but a E 10+ game meaning it's for kids/tweens who like simple yet entertaining game mechanics. Not grown adults who like complicated and balls hard game mechanics. Plus it's mostly a fuckin DISNEY PRODUCT. Meaning that kids and families are gonna be their most important targeted demographic. At this point, I can't take this fandom seriously anymore. Once the next Kh sega comes around, I'm not following this fandom again. It became too toxic once this game was released.

I appreciate that this review liked the game while admitting the faults. I loved playing it. It was fun. I felt satisfied. I even cried at one part (the ending conclusion for the BBS story). Some people went way too hard on it. Granted it is their opinion, but you are right. It’s not that hard to understand, even if it’s imperfect (very imperfect lol). It’s just a lot to remember and follow. It has a lot of heart. That is its core.
Kingdom Hearts Sassy Sora is the best. He is such a smart ass when he lands on that snow and bitches lol
In my mind though, you can't really say "People went way too hard on it", only to follow up with "it's very imperfect." That shows the game really is flawed and it might be you who's going more softly on it, rather than others going too hard on it. Perhaps your standards for games (or games of a series you really like) are just much lower. That's not an insult or anything either, only an observation.
Chromasus It’s imperfect (very imperfect) the same way all of the KH games are though, so I think people are going too hard because I feel that they are judging it unfairly to the others.
The only game that actually isn’t that complicated and is pretty consistent is BBS because it is a prequel to all of the very complicated and convoluted story. The whole series is meant to be more of a nostalgic and heartwarming ride and to me, people are too hard on KH3 when it is like all of the rest to me.
@@anthonyramirez388 I'd argue the reason people are going so hard on it is that the game was so long overdue. We had all these side games to just add more and more stuff to the story, we had all the hype surrounding KH3 which still wasn't coming out (no actual KH games released for PS3 and the game came out relatively late to the PS4 lifespan). At that point people were expecting to game to live up to the long time it took for it to come out, but for it to come out after so long and still fail to surpass Kingdom Hearts 2, not to mention all the things lost in 3 (like Final Fantasy characters), I don't think it's too unfair for people to go so hard on it.
@@chromasus9983 To be brutally honest. The "Hype" surrounding KH3 is more so the fault of fans expecting something consistently spectacular just because "It took so long." (There is no harm in zero expectations, a concept many gamers seem to hate to adapt). Not helped by the fact these same fans refuse to acknowledge the other games as main entries to the series and just pass them off as side spin offs, and even after it been established they are main entries they still pass them off as side content.
And personally I see a lot of flaws in both KH2 and KH3 and I'm not exactly thrilled by how people overly praise KH2FM and ignore most if not all of its flaws. Believe me, no game is perfect as there is something about it that ruins its "perfection". I seen many flaws in KH2FM especially with how magic is handled.
Nah Butter actually went too soft on it, honestly. I enjoyed the game. I still play it. But it is a bad game. Pacing was terrible. About 20 hours worth of filler in a 26 hour story. Bad gameplay mechanics, etc. IT deserves the harsh criticisms it gets.

WORD..
Mickey's VA is the same guy who's been doing the voice since BBS.
@bigevilworldwide1 The reason Mickey sounds so different in this game is because the VA who voiced him died between Kingdom Hearts 2 and 3, hence the change(I wanna say the new VA came in around BBS). Wayne Allwine was his name, and he passed away around 2009. The new VA is Bret Iwan

I've played every game (Even recoded) and I will say that even though the gameplay is good, the story is pretty shallow this time.
There's a lot of character interactions we expected to see but never got. I'm okay with Sora horsing around the whole game but this game ended the Xehanort saga in the most cheapest way possible. Every hero is happy and every Villain wants to be nice upon death.
Yea it was a pretty fucking insulting ending. Not to mention the way a certain character ends the game OFF SCREEN!

Caddy's is pretty great too.
Caesar Nero Yeh I’ve just watched his! Reviews are at their best when the people doing them actually know their source material. And are not and never have been afraid to criticise something they hold so dear.
Just as I expected, Buns views on Part 3 are equal to mine; the game is neither perfect or a massive disappointment because it gets so many things right it feels like we can be ravenous towards it (which is perfectly fine since people will approach this game no matter what). For all its faults, the game feels like a labor of love for both Kingdom Hearts and Disney fans and cant wait for more. Totally random buns and sorry if I sound stalky, but when you did your meet up at Disney Springs last January I was that Disney Cast Member/employee that walked up and said hi. Sorry it was so quick but I was very happy to meet ya! ❤❤❤
Just because something is a labor of love means that people need to like it? Yes the game had serious care and polish put into it, but there are people who really have issues with the game's faults which impacts their overall view on the franchise as a whole.
@@demon2441 OK I admitted I didnt word my statement well enough and I apologize if I was broad; I was just speaking for myself and other that share similar views. What I meant to say that even with its flaws the attention to detail and love and care outweights the bad for me and others. I should have added that people do have the right to feel however they feel, whether people feel it's valid or not and I actually understand some of the frustrations they had in part three. @Rhys Wells If they didn't try to hide it why change the shot to a spot where you can barely see the braid? If you look closer it still ends up in front if her arm unnaturally, it just sort of pops in front of it.
But they couldn't fix Elsa's shit world.
"It has more freedom than ever to explore new ideas and do it's own thing without the big 3 looking over it."
I think that's a very pertinent observation.
The series as a whole, ever since the release of KH2 has had this air of disdain over it because we've been waiting for a game titled "kingdom hearts 3" the whole time.
Kinda how borderlands the pre-sequel got a lot of hate for not being borderlands 3.
Now that kingdom hearts 3 has been released and tied up a lot of loose ends I think the series can move on to new things and it'll just be ok. There's no "God is this game EVER going to happen?!" Pulling everything down. And I think that's great.
It's gonna be weird playing a game with "kingdom hearts" in the title that doesn't star Sora, but I guess I'll get use to it.
Side note, WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH "3" GAMES?! It's like they're cursed. Kingdom hearts 3, borderlands 3, half life 3, portal 3, team fortress 3, mother 3, left 4 dead 3... It's like "3" games are just doomed to be in limbo. It's weird.
maxie fuqua ... God of war III… Second best game in the series in my opinion.
maxie fuqua except, this game didn’t finish anything and only asked more questions so now everyone is waiting for kingdom hearts 4 because we all know the game isn’t over and the game never pretended that it was over. The only difference is that now people know how terrible the writing in this game is so they won’t expect anything good
It's the idea that movies/game/books NEED to be a trilogy in order to flesh out the story/world/characters enough to make it complete. I feel it's easier to start a story than finishing it. Writers often have a hard time trying to finish their stories, in a timely manner, and in a way that they are happy with.
@@Damianator77 I don't think that's the problem.
They leave things open ended fore sequels, because that's how you make more money.
And the point I was making with this comment over 2 year ago was that the over arching story needed an end point. Kingdom hearts 2 ended on a major cliff hanger, and for over a decade and across at least 6 other games the story didn't move forward.
There were prequels, mid-quels, alternate worlds and alternate timelines, and all this other crap that despite adding so much, didn't move the plot forward beyond KH2. At least not by a lot.
Then dream drop distance happened, and it moved things forward, but still didn't wrap it up in a satisfying way. The story still needed a conclusion. That's why people were mad about it.
And finally, after so many years and so many games, they announce the ACTUAL Kingdom Hearts 3, and it's actually happening this time. This was always meant to be the conclusion that the series needed, and that's exactly what it ended up being.
The EXACT SAME THING can be said about borderlands 3 now that it's been released. The ending of borderlands 2 opened the door for so many possibilities, and players were dying to get there hands on it. Then the pre-sequel comes and people are pissed because this wasn't the space faring vaulting odyssey they were promised. And for ages the black stain of "is borderlands 3 ever going to happen?" Loomed over the franchise and the fan base.
And then it actually happened.
It concluded the story. It delivered on the promises. And put the series to rest. (And not just because the story was over, but because the game ended up not being nearly as good as borderlands 2.)
@@GeneralNickles Obviously KH is a special exception to this idea. I was more referring to other franchises you listed. I believe Noruma once had a simple and fairly grounded story to tell, but slowly got more and more obsessed with going further/deeper than that. He dug a hole that he now had to climb out of, while trying to play it off that he had it all figured out from the start. Feeling he had to explain everything he mentioned/showed became too much to fit inside a single game, especially if it didn't revolve around Sora's place/role in the story. I don't agree with how he approached handling characters/stories, outside of Sora's with "spin-offs" because a lot of them came off as half-assed KH games with 90 percent filler and 10 percent canon story to connect it to the main titles. It does seem to come off as a marketing tactic to sell more games/products, but I don't believe that's how it started. I think Noruma simply bit off more than he could chew and felt he had to tell us everything, regardless of how convoluted, and out of order, it got. Btw, I hated KH3, in case you thought otherwise.
Gonna be 100% honest, i love kingdom hearts 3, id been following the series since i was 6 (around the time 2 came out) and its always been a constant around my life, it always felt like the most monumental/notable moments in the franchise would always seem to slot in with memorably moments of my development. Im now nineteen, and had been struggling with a job search, but the same day i picked up the deluxe edition of kingdom hearts three was the same day i had finally been hired for my first job, waking up that morning, i didnt know i was even being considered as an applicant, so to have finally found a job on the same day that i got to play the game felt magical, and itll be one of the memories ill always hold fondly.

You and me both buddy. I was around 10 when KH1 was realeased. Here I am, 24 years old withthe same exact way to describe KH as you. The story resonates with my life and matches up so well to it. And how my life has gone has been so similar to the development of Riku, and KH3 really helped me out. I feel like a chapter in my life can finally be closed, and I look forward to new experiences. A new journey, so to speak. And thanks to Nomura, I will have future titles to help guide my heart. This game series is my guiding key.

I watched a few review videos of this game recently and this one is the most optimistic for the direction the franchise is taking. I think the other reviewers held a really high bar of expectation for this game and it failed to deliver on every front.
If you enjoy the game as simply another installment of the franchise (one of many) and not the summation of every good thing to ever happen to kingdom hearts, the experience should be much more enjoyable.
I like watching positivity, and while yes, the good mentioned in this video were also present in others, there it was presented in the format of the bad despite the good whereas this video focused on the good despite the bad. It's nice to see the other side of the coin, even if much of the content is similar.

Finally. A KHIII video that isn't just someone who only played KH1 years ago going "Oh my gawwwwddd why is the story so weeeiirrrd" for an hour.
Seriously this was a great look into the game and the series as a whole.
KatlikeRider Here’s the thing, I don’t really blame the people who only played KH1 and KH2, jumped to KH3 and call it bad. Why? Because two major reasons.
1. This goes against what Nomura said about “this should be able to satisfy newcomers as well if you have played the others” so if the game were to appeal to newcomers then why should it not have the same effect with someone who only played the other two main titles? That does not make sense
2. Not everyone is a Kingdom Hearts fan enough to play ALL the titles. Why does the series have to function that way? It’s like if you haven’t played all the games then your opinion is suppose to be invalid and I find that ridiculous. Before the games all got ported on one disc. You had to own a PS2 for KH1 and 2, a GBA for Chain of Memories, a PSP for Birth By Sleep, a DS for Re: Coded, a 3DS for dream drop. Oh and if you wanted bonus content from the 1.5 and 2.5? You needed a PS3 for that. That’s a lot of money that not everyone has and even if they put it on one disc, not everyone is gonna go out of the mentality of not playing all the games. Let’s be real here when we finished KH2 we wanted KH3. We didn’t want Kingdom Hearts: (instert fancy name here) or whatever.
@@360Blader Let's be real here, after finishing KH2, I just wanted more KH. Not KH3. And guess what, I got that. Multiple times.
@@OwNAvenged Hey, KUDOS to you for being a KH fan and enjoying everything KH has to offer. Before KH3 came out, you ever noticed how a lot of people were cramming at the last minute to play all the KH games on the "Story So far Collection"? That goes back to what I said on how everyone did not (or didn't want) to own the hardware just to follow Kingdom Hearts's singular plot line. When KH2 was finished KH3 was all over the internet of being the next best thing for the PS3, don't even say that's not true. They should have just stuck with the main consoles, all they had to do was make a nice long concluding story that's easy to follow like in KH1 for the story arc of Xehanort and bring back KH2's combat system with a kick of innovation for KH3 and I guarantee you, hardly anyone would complain about it. Now you got people disappointed in KH3 all on the internet. Hell with all that development and if they didn't make all those side games we probably could have been on KH4 by now and KH5 would be in development. I can think of a few other JRPG series that keep running the main titles, drop a new title and it won't be a disappointment.
HelloFiora It’s like saying that you can jump into the last Harry Potter movie and understand everything. It’s supposed to be a sequel. Nomura states that it should be appreciated by newcomers too and he’s right. A game can be liked and played for different reasons, one of them could be the gameplay. Newcomers might play to enter they’re favorite Disney worlds. And yes, their opinions should be invalid story-wise, unless they kept up with the story of the other titles. It’s like someone reviewing the last Harry Potter film and saying it’s shit because they don’t understand a thing. Is it right to shit on any type of content for no reason(or better... for a stupid reason)?
EDIT: about the titles being spread among every console to ever exist, it’s true. But then people can either read the story or buy the console and game. Not everyone can buy so many consoles but they should not have credibility when talking about the game’s story.
@@kirbytrax8326 See that right there IS one of the big problems with Kingdom Hearts story. I'v been through this, you even mentioned it in your edit, they can't have credibility in the story because they haven't played the others. I'm more leaning towards the people who played KH1 and 2 like me except I played Birth By Sleep and watch the cut scenes and lore updates before playing KH3 and even then it's disappointing. I didn't like that I had to do that. I didn't want to spend hours on gameplay I was not enjoying just to get some plot out of it. But hey maybe you're a Kingdom Hearts fan and you played them all, fine that's great to you! But not everyone is like that. I dont' like the design on how the story is told. Kingdom Hearts makes a trilogy of a single arc only for you to play the spin offs to understand them? Um no, I'll pass so yes people like this have every right to call KH3 trash because if you're gonna make a trilogy at least make it to where you could only play the first 3 games and be totally fine. It's sad because KH1 was a really great game to me. Plus people who played the first two games is a different counter argument from those who never played KH at all. The story is only one of problems KH3 had.
Take Jak and Daxter for example. No spin offs that are canon. A simple trilogy, you could play all the games on the PS2 which is AMAZING, there was not Jak 1 on the PS2, the Jak 2 on the DS and Jak 3 on Vita. They didn't spread the consoles in different directions for consumers to blow their cash on platforms to follow a single story line. First two games were good and the third blew them both out the water. That's how KH should have been but it had to take it's ridiculous approach to milk their consumers. Devil May Cry another good example, First 3 games on PS2, DMC4 on PS3 and now DMC5 on PS4. That's perfect, no bullshit just staying to the mainline consoles, not hard to follow.
The real reason behind all this is not that "they don't understand" but rather "Why does it it take so much FOR someone to understand?" See where I'm getting at? It's not a stupid reason. It's a legitimate reason. Again talking about people who just played the first two and a little not people who just played KH3 and that's it.
Kingdom Hearts III was honestly one of the most joyful experiences I've had. This series has meant the world to me since I played the first game on the PS2 all those years ago.
I can't wait to see what comes next in this crazy-ass and fun as hell series!

I keep seen people complain the game is not perfect, but as you said, WHAT IS? What is this Platinum standart that people hold KH3 against?
Jonatas Silva the platinum standard is KH2, and I guess by extension KH2FM. When a game that came out 14 years ago has better combat, better story and pacing, better world design and more or less the same music, and a longer playtime, thats why people are kinda disappointed. The ending was soo rushed, I was surprised it took 6 years of development.

Niiiice.
Props to you for not letting your hype override your experience like so many other RUclipsrs who regularly cover this series. It's so refreshing to see someone who isn't really bitter about the specific things they wanted not being in the game, or about how the story was handled, or the ending. I've been saying for years now that the fanbase's endless hype-train was going to lead to inevitable disappointment in many of them, and I was right. I'm just glad I, and many others such as yourself, were able to love this game for what it was, and to appreciate the VAST strides the series has made with this installment.
I mean, Noruma throwing breadcrumbs with each sub-par game and taking so long to get to KH3 is what made it the hype, and expectations, bigger than it should've been. Having played all the other entries, besides Union because I refuse to play a dumbed-down version of KH for mobile just to understand what's happening story-wise later on, I absolutely loved 1 and 2. ReCoM and DDD were okay, but most stuff outside 1 and 2 were mostly filler to create/make tie-ins to the mainline games. I appreciate the things KH3 did right, but with the franchise being around since 2002, and waiting for a full-fledged KH game since 2005, it didn't make enough strides(in my opinion) to make up for the long wait. A lot of stuff that existed for the series back then stayed the same, and really showed it's flaws by today's standards, making the game feel very dated; especially the writing. The writing for both the story and dialogue really put a damper on the whole experience for me. The Disney worlds, and the gang's impact in them, felt so shallow and empty. 90 percent of the game felt like filler, just to get to the finale where it became one big fanservice. I forced myself, after a month, to finish it after only playing about 6 hours in. Finishing it, I felt nothing but disappointment after all the time/money I put into this series for it to "end" the way it did. It was all flash and no substance. I can understand why people enjoy it for what it is, but I just couldn't get into it and felt it could've been so much more after all this time.
@@Damianator77 So, I totally get where you're coming from. And on a lot of what you're saying, I 100% agree. But I do have a caveat.
First of all, you're on point with the problem of how long the series went on between 2 and 3. I agree, there were WAY too many titles sandwiched in between, several of them utterly unnecessary. Nomura could have completely nixed Re: Coded, put 0.2 as just a prologue of 3 (which is what was originally intended anyway), and streamlined the X games into a single cohesive title BEFORE 3's release instead of having it run concurrently with it, then that would have cut down dramatically on both the time fans had to wait between main games and also the ground players had to cover in terms of excessive lore and narrative. (I'm torn on whether or not I would have also cut out 358/2 Days as well.)
In terms of the evolution of the story, I think that 3 actually exceeded most of the other titles PROVIDED you account for the tremendous amount of lore they had to write around. I do think the excessive number of games that ended up leading into 3's story did overcrowd the plot considerably to the point where a good deal of it FELT underwhelming. BUT, contrary to what many in the fanbase have said, I actually contend that 3 had a BETTER story than 2, both in terms of plot and dialogue.
Here me out, okay? IF YOU REMOVE THE PROLOGUE OF KH2-(which imo was the best story segment out of the entire series)-the narrative and dialogue of KH2 is actually not that good.
For one thing, the dialogue in KH3, especially in the Disney worlds, was far more organic and featured better character interaction, both amongst the main characters and with the Disney cast. KH2's dialogue by comparison was considerably more wooden (and do we really need to go over "Sora, Donald, and Goofy" being repeated a million times?).
Second, the overall plot thread of 3 was handled slightly better than 2. In 2, they can't even focus on a single main antagonist-the first half of the game is devoted to stopping Pete and Maleficent from gathering a Heartless army, and then the second half of the game is about stopping the Organization from collecting hearts. And very few of the Disney worlds in KH2 had any direct relevance to the broader conflict. Space Paranoids was the most relevant world in its connection to Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden, and Beast's Castle and Disney Castle both had minor significance with regard to Xaldin and Maleficent respectively, but other than those two, the worlds in KH2 really didn't matter in the larger scheme. They could have been literally any Disney worlds, and they would have served the same purpose. Contrarily, consider how many Disney worlds in 3 served a direct function facilitating the final conflict of the game: Toy Box and San Fransokyo both provided information for the Organization to use to resurrect Xion as their thirteenth member; Corona and Arrendelle both served as homeworlds of three of the seven New Hearts that the Organization could use as incentive and backup if Sora failed to find six other Guardians of Light; the scream tanks at Monstropolis literally rebuilt Vanitas' heart from scratch; Olympus is where Xigbar learned about Maleficent and Pete hunting for the Black Box, thus setting the Organization on their own errand to find it; hell, even the Hundred Acre Wood (shitty little level that it was) had some direct foreshadowing to the ending and thematic relevance to Sora's character development. Was any of it great? No. Not by a long shot. Too many different goals and none of them turned out to be that important. But what these worlds had in terms of bearing on the larger conflict is more than what I could say with regard to the worlds in KH2.
To this day, I still contend that the best story out of all the games in this franchise belongs to KH1. No game since then has matched the simplicity, the charm, the narrative cohesion, or the dramatic tension of that game, mainly because all the games since that one and CoM (including KH2) have loaded themselves down with gratuitous amounts of lore and macguffins.
But all that put together, I'm still quite happy with how 3 turned out. Is it the best in the series? No. But I will argue that, at least story-/character-wise, and CERTAINLY visuals-wise, it's an improvement over 2, even if I think that 2 does still win in the gameplay department. And 1 will forever be my favorite. But KH3 felt like a strong return to form, and even though the gameplay was overburdened and too easy initially, it does feel like an evolution of the earlier games rather than a downgrade, which is what BBS and DDD felt like to some degree.
@@Kira1Lawliet Because it was the end part of the saga is pretty much why you feel it's evolution of story exceeded other titles, because it's wrapping up everything that's been told/shown. That's what the end of a saga is supposed to do; have an explosion of entertainment to end on. I don't even personally think 3's story is as good as people say it is. Plus, most of the other titles don't exactly set the bar high, so that's not really anything that's hard to do. The reason 2 didn't have a better story is because it's the second in the saga, which typically ends up being an extension of what happened in the first part, and has to solely create a bridge leading to KH3. Noruma just drops more breadcrumbs and posed more questions in 2 so they could be answered and pay off in 3.
I honestly felt the dialogue in 3 to be only slightly better due to the voice acting, but that should be expected given that it's the newest one. My problem was the writing and the dialogue itself. I felt it still had that wooden feel you mentioned in previous entries, that was fine at the time, but here it was even more noticeable and off-putting when paired with the far-superior UE4 visuals. Pretty much every line felt so painfully average and cringy to me. I remember KH1/2's dialogue to be fine, at the time, but I was hoping it would mature given how much time has gone by. Thinking about it now, I think the "Sora, Donald, Goofy" repetition could have been a Japanese thing, in addressing the group more properly and politely, but it never bothered me. I remember dealing with the Organization/Nobodies shortly after getting to play as Sora. The reason they jumped between villians was because the gang didn't know what was going on, in the grand scheme of things, so they stuck to what they knew while trying to find Mickey, and the Organization just kept getting in there way. That's Noruma's way of using 2 to introduce the other party at play here, and their involvement that carries on into later installments, and eventually 3.
As for the worlds in 2, and their involvement in the over-arcing story, I honestly can't remember. What I do remember is the fun I had while playing in them though. KH3's worlds were bigger and more open, but because of what little there was to actually do in them, they felt as shallow as ever. I did feel they were pushing the Disney advertising agenda more than ever, with shot by shot scenes from the movies and the attraction rides, that were too much for me. The only world in 3 I did enjoy was the most linear one, Monstropolis, simply because it took place after the movie and I loved the interactions/banter between the gang and the characters in that world. It was a short, contained, and linear ride, but I enjoyed it the whole time. Also, I feel most of the story involvement for the worlds in 3 could have easily been explained/written to happen anywhere else outside of them, and not impacted the story at all. As for what happened in the worlds themselves, they mostly played out the same way as their source material, with little to no change from the gang intervening aside from when the Organization showed up.
I will agree that the best story is still KH1. It started with a group kids just wanting to see other worlds and became something much greater. Even with everything that happened it still told a simple, grounded story that ended with a promise for more of it in the future. I felt that simple story slowly fade away more and more with each new release. I'm glad it became something more, but Noruma really did take it too far. Rather than each new installment to the franchise adding more to story, I felt it only diluted the simple story that once was. It made Sora's role as the main protagonist/character into just a tiny blip on the radar, compared to everything else that happened before his involvement and onward. Sure, his involvement in the ongoing war had made an impact, but over time it felt like literally anyone else could've filled that role.
Everything you saw in 3 as an improvement from previous titles are to be expected from a newer game of a series, especially given the time difference, and that it's also the finale to the saga itself. Of course the story is going to be better, even though I still disagree on that front, because it's resolving things and finally answering questions the previous titles set up. Honestly, I felt it too little, too late and didn't care about most of the plot/backstory that had been added after 2. Even then, it either got sprinkled in cutscenes between worlds, or dumped in huge loads towards/in the final act. The characters, in my opinion, were so dull in 3. Sora still being Sora is okay, but I would've expected more maturity from him by now. I understand he's a loveable goof, but given the circumstances and everything that's going down, there needed to be a little more seriousness/urgency in how he handled things. Riku is just as melodramatic as ever, which I never cared for. In fact, everyone was pretty much that way in 3. Again, it was that way in previous titles, but I would've liked to see that change this time around. Kairi is as useless as ever, too, and Axel was nerfed to her level so they are reduced to cutscenes of talking in the woods between "training". The visuals are pretty much the only thing I give 3 credit for, but again, that's something to be expected with any newer entry to a series, and to be on par with today's standards of game visuals.
KH2's gameplay was flashy, fluid, grounded, and fun. KH3 is all Disney-themed flash that blinds you with a screen full of particle effects, that while cool and impressive at times, is too much. KH3 is supposed to be an evolution of the earlier games simply because it's a "mainline" entry of the series, the ending the saga, and the newest one. It's because of the high pedestal that I have 1 and 2 held up to, as overall great experiences, that KH3 just couldn't come close to them and me expecting more of it.
I just wanted all the time/money spent on the series to leave me feel satisfied with my choice to, and mean something more to me. At least more then what I got.
@@Damianator77 in terms of story, kh did better, in terms of combat, kh3 did better, but the best in the series was kh2 as it was the best of both worlds tbh
I'm glad you stressed this is a *Fan Game* . Every negative review I have seen of KH3 has not been about KH3 as its own entity in contrast to its predecessors, but solely been issues that have plaged the entire series.
Worst of all is they either have never played a KH game or disclosethey disliked the series already and act like these issues are game breaking now specifically. I haven't seen a "fan" say this game is anything less than it's at least good (most love it though).
They don't say "This was better in KH2 or KH1" or "This doesn't make sense bc of *previous plot point" or mention a specifically new mechanic not implemented well.
It's always complaining about the overlong cutscenes, the plot, the seemingly simple combat, the shallow representation of Disney stories and worlds, etc. It's like playing a Final Fantasy game and spending the whole time complaining about turn based combat in general.
And then all the comments are people who hate the KH series, but never played it, but just don't like the concept of it or have fallen for the memes. Just the uninitiated or haters feeling validated that this must be the one that proves how "awful" the series is.
In any other scenario I'd say they're valid complaints, but it's like jumping into the episode of a popular plot heavy show and getting annoyed that you don't get what's going on. KH3 is not a new installment, it's the final installment and it expects you to already be on the train.
No one would take a complaint seriously if someone just watched Return of the Jedi as their first Star Wars film and complained about the unexplained details of The Force or how the Storm Trooper have terrible aim and using that as a reason to say it's a bad movie.
Things fans have already accepted and flaws they even somewhat enjoy about the films.
At this point I'd be dissapointed if it didn't have the dumb crap KH is known for, it's almost part of why it's so endearing. The series is amazing as a sum of its parts and bonding over the stupidity makes it this weird unique gem that you can't help but love.
I don't even have nostalgia blindness or too young to understand quaility, I only started KH series 2 years ago and I'm in my late 20s and been gaming since Floppy Disk coppies of Mortal Kombat.
It just urks me to no end. I'm far from saying KH3 is perfect or beyong criticism, I'm saying a majority of it is misinformed or out of touch.
And while I usually respect outside opinions, you have to also accept when something isn't your style or do the reserach to understand and explaom your issues in better context.
Pretty much. As a long-time fan, 3 was an amalgamation of most of the things KH has done over the years. Some of it is better, some of it is worse. It's enjoyable, but has issues, which really sums up about every singe entry in this series for me. How it holds up to the other games depends on who's playing it and what they wanted out of it.
@@kartikayysola That's a perspective I respect
What is a "fan" though? Someone who buys a product for it's name regardless of the quality or someone who genuinely cares for the over all quality of the product? Because in my case I'm gonna have to go for the seccond one. And I say this as a *fan* who has played every single game in the series (excluding 358/2 and Re:coded because remix problems, yo) but no matter the game I played, KH2 always had the biggest impact on me after all these years. Not to say that there weren't qualities in the other games as well but they weren't enough to dwarf over KH2. So I thought "Ok, maybe Nomura will take the handhelds into account to make 3 into a masterpiece" even though at the end I could not for the life of me love it like I loved KH2. I couldn't help but feel that the game was holding itself back: combat was either stiff or boredom easy, pacing was held off until the end game, nobodies and unversed rarely made an appearence next to how often heartless showed up, key worlds like twilight town were either too small or we didn't get to visit (like, why didn't go to radient garden). The biggest offender though was having worlds replay yhe entire movie. For example: if you took the gang out of Tangled, Frozen and Pirates, nothing would have changed because they barely had an effect on the events of the world outside of fighting heartless/nobodies. If I wanna watch something like Dead Man's chest like how it was or hear Elsa sing "Let it go" (which I did not want in my KH3) I can boot up my dvd player at any point but don't force me to watch said scenes in the game like I'm watching the movie. Why couldn't they have Sora interact with the world, react to it, have good conversations with people about what's going on. You know, like KH2 and every other kh game has ever done.
P.S. I'm not toxic about this, just dissapointed of the 7 year long wait and the end product wasn't better than this.
@@2urh No, that was good. I respect your experience and I'm sorry you didn't get the experience you wanted. Personally, speaking from my own experience, KH3 gave me what I wanted overall. Fun (albeit a bit too easy) gameplay, a resolution to at least most of the established original characters' arcs, and a happy ending for my personal favorites, the Wayfinder trio. Is the gameplay better than KH2? No. It comes close but it isn't quite as snappy and weighty as 2 was. Regardless, I had a lot of fun playing around with the different combinations of transformations, magic, and team attacks (I pretty much left links and attraction flow in the dust). And it doesn't interweave the Disney worlds into the main story the way KH1 did (hell, I'd argue NONE of the games did it like KH1 did). It's not as good gameplay wise as 2 or story wise as 1 and I wasn't asking it to be. I wanted it to be a conclusion, or as Buns says in the video, the "cherry on top". It did so for me. Not perfectly of course, plenty of things could have been better handled (Roxas and Xion's returns for instance could have been fleshed out a bit more), but overall it was a success for me.
Good read.
you are a PHENOMENAL youtuber and your feelings towards this game and series mirros mine and so i personally felt for this video. thank you and keep up the amazing work
I'm a simple woman. I get a notification that SBB uploaded. I click.
Didn't expect to cry too much- but I cried way too much, especially where..I "Made My Mark" in the game. (Hello there Union X players~)
7 0 7 omg congratulations!

Man, i usually love your videos Buns, but this time I feel like you gave this game way too much credit for what it's worth. I'm a fan from day 1 too, but this game had too many problems that I felt like you overlooked.
Sorry this late but here I go. First of all this is her opinion on the game not yours . Second, she clearly stated in the video that the game is not prefect and that some people are going to be divided by it. And lastly she's going to make a beginners guide in the future give more thoughts on it.
They put out critical saying “oh the game isn’t hard enough huh? I guess we’ll make every enemy able to one shot you and have your health super low. Not hard enough, fine, your attack is lower and they’re defense is higher”
That made me enjoy it more
When she said the elephant in the room I thought she meant Twilight town -_-
Ik a lot of people will say I'm complaining, but I was completely upset and disappointed when I realized you couldn't see the rest of twilight town. Yk like the sandlot, the usual spot, sunset terrace, sunset hill the train station, taking the train to the other side of the town etc...
idk, the overall "exploration" aspect of the game felt inconsistent with each world. Some worlds were smaller with more linear paths and others were very open and you could freely diverge from the main path.
Would've been great if you could go up to the clock tower and chill with your gang
And the absence of Radiant Garden. Like, there is a huge story-driven potential in there. The other side of the phone is literally in RG so why can't we go there?

I finally had a chance to finish this game today, and I gotta say, I was heartbroken about how some aspects turned out. But I otherwise was still shook and satisfied with how it turned out. Buns, this video really validated my feelings and made me feel better about my game experience. Thank you as always for your great work!!
the main villain that spend so much time planning turns good right at the end -_- "
The last four-five hours were the best if the series tho
you havta admit
Kinda wish some of that could have been spread out over the story a bit more though. A midpoint world a la KH2 Hollow Bastion could have done wonders (hopefully without the game kinda blowing its load for a bit afterwards though). Still loved the game, however.
It was annoying and made me uninterested
at least it was scripted by somone other than a dyslexic mule
Lmao fuck no it wasnt.
Lmao good one
Prove to me SuperButterBuns isn't actually Shenpai in disguise.
Why?
Actually shenpai is buns in disguise
PLOT TWIST
You might wanna watch this then ruclips.net/video/pBHbALviLdM/видео.html
tbh I don't really see it - Shen and Buns have a similar audience and they cross over sometimes, but they have different opinions and focuses when it comes to what media they like and how they discuss it. It's like how Milky, KT, and Shib are also not interchangeable despite showing up on both Shen and Bun's channels occasionally. :D
@@CelestiaLily oh geez, relax
Its just a innocent joke, even they already joked about it in past videos
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Same!!!
@@BobbyTheGamerOfJUSTICE I've been wanting to hear Bun's thoughts on the game since I finished it myself last week I've just been dying with anticipation.

"You're testing my patience, DUCK!" - in every single one of the Kingdom Hearts video's, there's a reminder not to watch Buns' videos while drinking...
I just got it, playing it, and.... I just dont see it. I want to but, the levels are generally really small or not small, less diverse, hercs world had a city then country then 2 more places, but then San fransokyo. The combat seems to boil down to hit until you can triangle and heal all the time and it's so easy gear seems useless, and the in world plots dont link up like they did in the past, it's like you are characters in the background of these movies and you only pop in for the big events, but then you miss out on the emotional connection. It feels like a kingdom hearts game where the passion was pulled out. I'm glad you guys enjoy it and if I'm missing something i'm all ears, I want to like this game, I really do.
TheOnlyGuermo Totally with you. With KH3 I have to force myself to like it. But it is just straight up Bad. Those cutscenes and Overall plot are a joke. I Sold my copy
People praising this game are blind as fuck and they are very very salty and quiet right now lol this game was a hot pile of trash and they banded together and ignored the criticism until it overwhelmed them lol then they went quiet. Wheres all those people that praised KH3? I cant find any lol
I still adore KH3. The DLC added such great boss battles and yozora being added- I've nothing to complain about. Its fine that not everyone likes it but I waited 13 years and am not disappointed at all. Looking forward to the rest, sorry for those who have some gigantic problems with it. But "we" do exist.
Much love xx
Fun fact about Master Xehanort's new voice actor: I looked in the credits and it turns out it was Rutger Hauer! To those who don't know, Rutger Hauer played the main antagonist in Blade Runner, which considering certain casting choices and plot points continues the big-name sci-fi theme.
Awesome!
What!? He is!?

tbh the main problem was, most people didn't get the full story, because the games came out on like 5 different consoles. i mean, sure, its also because there's like 9 games worth of shit to recall, and it's a lot of data, but the confusing thing was people going from kh1 to kh2 then going "wait, what? the fuck's happening?" because they didn't even know about CoM
Yeh that was me. Legit only played kh1 and 2 and didnt know about the rest until 2017. (Thankgod for the remixes)
As a fan of Kingdom Hearts who got into the series with my brother in late 2008 this was honestly exactly what I was expecting, the end of the Dark Seeker Saga.
When it comes to video game franchises that are all connected The Yakuza Franchise is your go to. All the games are progressing naturally. Not to mention even side characters are given closure. It's a shame people don't give The Yakuza Franchise enough credit.
I'm pretty sure that because it's had so many entries it's harder for people to jump into them, knowing how much they have to play to catch up to where it is now.
Best. Spoiler-free. Review. Ever! You really did a great job in summing up all of the aspects of the game and I actually agree with everything you said in your video! Don't ever stop what you are doing because you're great at what you do ❤️
The best review I've ever seen, your not being biased as a fan, but instead you NEED to be a fan to know your source material and give the series a fair evaluation.
Also Kudos for the metal gear shout out because I said the exact same thing, its like nomura is kojimas brother or something.
