Mike the music SOB 😢
Found this song a couple of months ago by accident, and I have been sharing it with everybody.
She manages to convey her emotions so well with her singing. You can't help but feel her pain.
my sister knows her- they went to Belmont together and had the same vocal coach, and she says that not only is YEBBA better than their coach, but shes the best voice to EVER come out of Belmont
she can do runs like that "without even thinking about it", to quote my sister
Thanks for sharing your comment of Yebba. She's GOALS!!!
This is an example of how to portray frailty correctly. A common mistake I hear most vocalists make is removing any form of diction and vocal projection which yes can work sometimes depending on the backing they have but this does the job so much better. Because you don't just hear the pain, you also hear Yebba trying to hold that pain in. Which makes it so fucking tear inducing
I dont think frailty is what she's trying to portray here... To me frailty leans more towards weakness then sadness and in this performance I get more wailing sadness then I get frailty... It's sounds like she's crying without actually crying. Almost wailing from her depths. That doesn't give me the feeling that she frail...
@@YouWillGetThereBuddy there is always a little frailty in fear
At f***in' last! A dude who gets it, COMPLETELY!
Well said, that man!
Man, your speaking voice is so good. Does anyone else love Mike's voice?
He sounds like tank dempsey from nazi zombies.
He would have a great voice for radio. 👍🏻
"DAMN"
Its very piercing and hurts my ears...im here for a good reaction to amazing yebba
Pavel Lavigne I do!!!
I'm so with you....best singer ever!!! Yebba is nominated for a Grammy for 'How deep is your love" PJ Morton and Yebba. I truly hope she wins for Traditional R&B
If Mike heard her harmonize with Devin Townsend he would actually nut his pants
Thank you for your review I totally agree with you. I was blown away multiple soul was touched so deeply and she carried me through her journey but also allowed me to reconnect with my own pain yet she lifted me back at end which also reminded me that we made it through music is for the soul and she defiantly has imprinted on many.
Just popped over to listen to this without (with respect) you interrupting. A very rewarding 6 mins and 7 seconds. Now I'm going to watch the rest of your reaction :)
Honestly so did I. I had to absorb it all without interruption.
My absolute favorite reaction/critique of a performance. Intelligent, humorous, passionate. If all opinions were as brilliantly supported...
I went and watched the performance and it changed how I think about singing.
He needs to listen to evergreen and gravity by yebba
I'm not sure why everyone immediately recommends the Evergreen performance. Yea it's good cuz it's fucking Abbey Smith. No way compares to this performance though.
Check this out instead

I agree with you 100%... I just found out about her today... this morning actually... I’ve been searching her and listening to all of her songs all day. I burst into tears when she sang the line “I work so hard to keep you satisfied” doesn’t matter how many times I listen to it... that part makes me cry... I can feel her... she really sings with the soul... goosebumps and all that. A lot of people can sing but only a few can sing through their soul.
Her vocals remind me some what of american indian cries, beautiful! Thanks for the share Mike, she's awesome.
Yebba has the best voice from the past present and foreseeable future! NOBODY compares to this girl!
Oh my god. I literally have no words. She's the goddess of all singers
I absolutely loved your reaction. I appreciated your candor and your knowledgeable analysis of her music. But more importantly, your articulation and expression of the passion and raw emotion you felt throughout was lovely. I'm right there with you.
it's so fucking RAW it almost killed me
god damn, just goddamn, I've never felt like this.......
Interestingly enough I've watched her video at least a hundred times if not more. Mind you that is without exaggeration. And after watching your reaction video to her video it has re-instill Des adnis that I get from listening to her, therefore making me cry all over again. I enjoyed this very much.
Damn mike the music snob at a loss for words. The internet broke today.
My life is different now. Thank you, Mike.
Yebba, evergreen bbc performance with orchestral background will make you bawl. Especially the backstory of the song. But read it afterwards and listen a second time. Totally worth it.
The imperfections in the vocal is what makes this perfect. 😭😭😭😭
Uff i liked your voice and loved your laugh at the end. You said really deep thoughts about how her singing makes you feel that I didn’t know how to say it in words. Great video✨
Thanks for the great insight
I watched her video. And I couldn't stop bawling. I felt and believed every word she sang. I haven't had that happen to me in a long time. Being as analytical with pop music as I am, I've become jaded with the predictability of pop songs and how mediocre singers have been lately. But I listened to her sing, and although the songwriting isn't interesting, I couldn't help but cry and feel her pain. And it's refreshing.
Thank you for this.
Well...now we know this dude's O face. And yeah, Yebba appears to be a virtuoso with a unique command of both her voice in a technical sense, but beyond that, she has a surreal ability to convey emotion. Put those two things together and you've got something wholly fucking sublime and genuine.
But you know there's Corpsegrinder too.
Singer not harsh vocalist
I actually though the exact same thing
no hes a singer. have you never heart hes rendition of totos africa? he has the voice of an angel.
Thanks for this. You introduced me to something this good
Lol im glad someone else had my same reaction! She is absolutely amazing!
I went over after watching your video and started crying after 10 seconds. Damn! That was amazing. Thank you for showing this to us!
LOVE YOUR REACTIONS
You said this perfectly! Abbey Smith “Yebba” is BLESSED.
I love that you love her. She’s so amazing 🤩
Hahaha I freaking love you man! Yebba is the bomb! Also your speaking voice is out of this world☺️
Wowwww good job to you whoever is the singer I would have never have guessed that mike would like you like this and crying. Wow you are probably the only person I know that mike likes and mike doesn't like a lot of music Your really good and talented good job
Ur reaction to the end of her song was my exact same reaction 😂😂😂😂 it was adorable
I have always said that Yebba is the best singer I have ever heard! I reacted the same way to "My Mind"
Thank you! I've been saying this for a few months now. She's absolutely incredible!
was waiting for you to say that actually 7:56, I knew from the first pause you will get pissed at us hypothetically getting pissed at you
I've watched it.....at least 100 times, mostly reactions from other people. However, when I stumbled across yours today, I was REALLY looking forward to hearing your reaction, and EACH and EVERY TIME you paused to comment. That said, would you PULEEZE finish???? Thank you!!!!! A New Fan
Her emotions and conveying of those emotions are like a roller-coaster ride. There's a moment of vulnerability, a moment of anger, a moment of resolve... etc Phew.....
Why would you feel anger at a rollercoaster ride
Got to see her love on tour with John Mayer: it was so beautiful. 100% an amazing concert all around.
And I happy someone recognise this and not just say yes it's good.
I appreciate it man.
Hi five.
Thank you for explaining the facial expression on the ladies in the audience. How they looked was relatable with I was listening to this incredibly painful performance, however, I have watched like 50 other reaction videos where they were saying the women were "checked out," etc. Uhhhh, no sir... we were captivated, chained, enraptured, gripped, paralyzed and spellbound. Yebba's performance transcended from another dimension...
I agree, but why isn’t everybody getting off their a$$es at the end of the performance and giving this woman a standing ovation?
Beyonce on Cadillac Records got me to tear up. If you haven't seen watch it great movie. But yeah this girl has got it man. I had goose bumps the whole time.
wow great singing that you for introducing me to her
What a fantastic evocative performance! Reminded me a lot of KD Lang's rendition of Hallelujah at the Juno Awards. So powerful.
I've listened to so many reactions from vocal experts and honestly bro, i only subscribed to you. So well done, even though i wanted you to finish the song. She's perfect.
bruh that happened to me too i can feel tearing up in my eyes plus super awesome vid
Thanks Mike for this beautiful gift !!! Yebba rules !
You’re 110% right and I can’t remember the last time I had a song make me feel this much shared pain, AND EVERY fucking time I’ve watched it! Yebba (Abbey Smith) is Unbelievably Talented at her vocal conveyance of her emotions. She wrote this shortly after her mother passed, if I’m not mistaken. There is an intrinsic unformulae’d or “non-replicable” rawness in this, You can’t help but feel her pain. I’m glad you’re actually being blunt and direct and pointing these things out regardless of stopping the clip, too many people are audibly blind to these nuances so thank you for critiquing and making a point of this, Yebba definitely deserves the credit! 👌
Thanks again 🙏
I first heard her on PJ Morgan’s unplugged. Then I heard this song afterwards and yes she emotes in settle ways yet magnificent ways.
Hey...first time coming in your RUclips channel....1) I think I might have a small crush 2) I I laughed so much 3) you music knowledge rocks 4) don’t cut your hair or beard 5)do you have an Instagram channel 6) yes Yebba or (Abbey her name backwards) rocks her voice is amazing
And you nailed it. When it's too perfect, I can't feel it.
Honestly, I heard a few noticeably out of tune notes, and you know what? They just made it even better. It's like the solo in the Unforgiven, where the big climax (I believe, it's somewhere around there) has a very noticeably out of tune bend, but it's not a wrong note, it's just off pitch, and that just makes it stick out and have some extra punch. The lesson is, being perfectly in tune is not necessary and sometimes being a little out of tune can make something sound amazing.
I don't know if I would've ever gotten the chance to hear or see this performance, if it wasn't for you.
Holy. Fucking. Shit.
I completely agree with you! Fuck, Devin Townsend and Mikael Åkerfeldt, Yebba is the new standard!
Thank you, Mike! Thank you!
It's awesome to see Mike's mind being blown.
Her Upper and lower register is pure craziness!! She’s a beast...LOVE IT, LOVE HER!! Excellent video ❤️
love her voice, some of my other favourite powerful female vocals are Jennifer Hudson and Florence and the machine. i'd love to see what you think of them!
I hope you've seen Yebba singing "lucky" with Thirdstory which I think you might like cause the way they harmonize is other-worldly, 4 angelic voices making a britney spears song sound amazing in a freaking closet.
I absolutely cry every time I watch her sing. Not trying to it’s just happens and I don’t understand how!!
Same.
Such a great voice and performance, I had tears in my eyes the first time I watched this video
Subscribed to your channel 😁
If it wasnt for your review i would not have heard of this lady,,,,,,, and wow... you are right..... i could feel every note she sang... just awesome.... thank you so much mike for the heads up
FACTZZZZZZZZZ!!!! YEBBA😎👍🎤🎶
Oh my god dude Crack me up. Love it ✌
I’d go as far to say that this was the best live performance I watched in 2017. Unbelievable.
Please do more yebba reactions!! Her new stuff is soooo goood!!
I agree! I love her!
You talk about other influences, I can take a guess on Balcans (Bulgarian women voices fe), maybe from Mongolia and some Middle east in there as well? But I can also hear a great deal of gospel and what first came to my mind was Anita Wilson and Nikki Ross. But Yebbas voice is ahhhhhhh - so smoother, softer; like a warm, cosy, healing soul blanket...
I totally agree with you. I can't stop listening to her!
You have a great tone:deep voice and make insightful comments - love your reactions! Yebba is one of my most cherished musical finds over past few years…heart breaks and leaps equally when listen to her…have you heard her latest Tiny Desk live? Boomerang Live? Be interested to hear your response…! In my teens I spent in late 70s immersed in listening to bands such as Led Zep…Black Sabbath…and the rest…really got into newer stuff Nine Inch Nails and more in 90s onwards…have enjoyed what I have heard of your band…enjoyed your comments on what constitutes metal
Two female vocalists that are worth checking out that you may have overlooked are Janet Devlin (Haunting subtle beauty / innocence) and BiBi Bourelly (soulful jazz influenced R&B).
you have a great speaking voice!
You do know what your talking about!! No one can Touch! Her Yabba dabba I doooooooo!
Would have loved for you to have finished reacting. (I've been binge-watching reactions to all-things-Yebba, and yours is one of the few of my favs! (In Your own words), "DUDE!!!!"
I need to revisit Yebba. It's been looooonnnggg time since I've heard her
holy fucking shit i'm fucking crying this woman is damn god
She’s my actual spirit. I have watched so many reviews. And I swear I cry every time
No judgement on the tears man everytime i hear this song i cry and i must have heard it a thousand times now
This song is beautifully haunting!
Nice shirt . She deserved this . I hope she sees this video too !!
This is the kind of pop song that I would actually listen to cause its not just the typical bullshit. Its got real feeling and emotion behind it, its beautiful, real, and done amazingly.
Rnb. Definitely not pop...
It’s an R&B song
god.......... I can't catch a breath, my soul just got wrecked by a train.
I don't even want to listen to it that much anymore, it hurts
I never get tired of seeing people react to her. Lol her name is Abbey Smith, she’s from the south. Her main musical influences are gospel, soul, r&b, and folk. She’s said before that one of her musical inspirations is Kim Burrell (which you hear) and yeah. Welcome to the Yebba fan club! Checkout her song Evergreen that she wrote for her late mother. And also her collab with Luke Levinson and Clark Beckham. Your welcome in advance :)
She is my ultimate favorite
Holy fuckin hell, that voice.
Well where all that is coming from is personal experience, hello!! No amount of expertise can explain where all this talent is coming from. But tragedy in life can sometime reveal something greater. Yerba is the best! ❤
She's a machine!
As far as Yebba goes as a human being who is an artist, yes, she is an individual and there is no one like her.
However, it is easy to compare her to others like Adele, for the obvious similarities.
That said, I will say I do hear a little of Adele's tone, and Adele is talented, and a worthy artist.
But in my opinion she ,and many others like her cannot touch what Abbey Smith has.
She is legit next level. A rarity, a diamond in the rough.. etc etc.
I can hear a little of Ellie Goulding in her style too.
I wouldn't be surprised if she cited her as somewhat of an influence.
I haven't been able to listen to this Sofar performance which, sadly I just discovered yesterday, (Thanks to Lost In Vegas)
Not once without tears in my eyes... and I don't even have to have lived it.
Yebba just does that to a mothafucka.
This song was full on repeat yesterday, and I watched every reaction I could find.
I have now decided that if I ever get the opportunity to meet her, the first thing I would want to do is hug her, then thank her sincerely for getting up there on that stage and bearing her soul and moving us all.
We won't soon forget it.
This reaction/review was enjoyable, honest, precise, and worth the 11 minutes and 44 seconds.
Good work, sir!
I love this woman so much I literally watch all of her reaction videos....and this by far has been my favorite reaction!
Mike knows how to shitt on someone but also knows how to praise someone 😁😁✌🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
Nice shirt!
I agree 100% with your analysis here. I’ve listened to Yebba (Abbey Smith) for years. I second the request for you to check out her song “Evergreen”. In my opinion, the male version of her “emotive” singing style is Chris Stapleton. Pleasantly surprised with this video. It’s not the type of video you usually post. 👍🏼❤️Thank you so much. ❤️👍🏼
Chills...every time
💯, I weep like a 13 year old girl almost every time I hear this song. Right in the feels.
I agree No track has brought me to tears like this track this track is coming from deep spirit for me it transcends a vocal performance it is just where God and music cross over I can’t listen without crying
Thank you for reviewing her!! I’ve been listening to her for a good bit now. If you haven’t you should listen to her sing Evergreen
My gosh, the bridge. THE BRIDGE. My jaw literally dropped. I want to hear everything this woman sings for the rest of her career.
