  • In todays video I am going to talk to you in detail about the ICB, my experience with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB), the different levels that you can study for and additional optional exams and my experience so far and why I have decided to take up even more exams after my AAT and ACA qualifications.
I have found that the community around bookkeeping have been so supportive and lovely throughout my study with the ICB and have spent so much time with me to help me through the application process for exemption as well as the study path.
If you have any questions about how to become a bookkeeper, bookkeepers salary in the UK, about the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) or any other accounting or bookkeeping questions don't hesitate to get in contact.

Amazing! Your commitment to study, qualifications and improvements is inspirational . The first few exams / levels looks similar to level 3 aat and easy enough to transfer knowledge across? May try it myself, I’m thirsty for more certificates this year. I think you secretly love the stress of exams and study!

This is brilliant well done. What are your thoughts on the content and qualification in comparison to AAT level 2 in bookkeeping? Also the value of any bookkeeping qualification moving forward? With so many user friendly software solutions i.e Quickbooks etc will these qualifications be obsolete at some stage in the near future? Any advice /views will be much appreciated xx

Thanks Sophie :) I found aat level 2 covers a broader range of topics but the level 2 with the ICB seemed from my perspective to cover more of a real world scenario if that makes sense. Both 100 percent have their merit and the aat exams have changed slightly since I sat them all that time ago but I found for instance at level 2 with the ICB the exam on the software package was extremely thorough and well represented the information you would produce in practice x

Also I love this question, no absolutely not there will not be software that will outlast the qualification if that makes sense. The accounting qualifications set you up for so much more than data entry, they give you tools to question and think deeply about standards and impacts on business from vat, HMRC, police point of view for instance :) they also teach you how to become an integral part of a business and run a business should you wish to do so yourself x I hope this helps hun

I’ve just done AAT bk transactions and I’m thinking I may be better off with ICB. Or both perhaps. If like me you were at the beginning with intentions of being a bookkeeper and could only do one, what would you do out of interest? I’m very glad I found your video. Many thanks ☺️

Thanks Arthur, I think if you are looking more towards becoming a bookkeeper then I would certainly consider changing to ICB. However if you complete the AAT you can gain exemptions towsrds the ICB which means it wouldn't take that long to undertake this x

@@RebeccasFinanceTutorials thank you so much. I think I’ll do controls with AAT then do L2 and 3 with ICB unless I get an exemption. Thanks again, your channels been really helpful. Good luck to you Miss Finance 🙏

Thanks for posting your video and sharing your experiences. I’ve almost finished my foundation bookkeeping with AAT and thinking I should of gone down the ICB route.
In your opinion after getting your foundation what are you best doing after? What is the chances of getting work as a bookkeeper with your foundation in bookkeeping?
My end goal is to be a virtual bookkeeper working self employed and I need my level 3 but is it worth getting experience working for a company first. Even on a part time basis around my current employment.

Hi hun yes I would say gaining that experience is invaluable and not just from a point of completing bookkeeping tasks moving forward but also from a point of learning best practices and learning about the various different software platforms available for instance and how to bill clients etc.

Hi, great video. I'm 50 years old and after over 30 years in the IT and Communications industry I'm looking at potentially a change of career into Bookkeeping/Accounting but I'm really not sure where to start. Currently looking at the AAT Bookkeeping Lvl2, would you say this is a good place for someone with little knowledge on the subject?

Hi Wayne yes absolutely I would recommend the aat level 2, that was the first ever bookkeeping and accounting exam I did way back in the day and it gives you a great foundational level of knowledge x
