This can risk you getting selected for another however, I can’t imagine it being a huge risk and if you’ve applied now for next year you’ve got plenty of time to find the right camp for you so I’d say, keep looking until you’re happy :)
how did you make friends with fellow councillors if you were always with the kids? like was it just you and the kids all day, no other councillor with you?
Sorry I’m not sure why I’ve only just seen this! But you still spend a lot of time with the counsellors. At my camp there were 3 other counsellors in my bunk, we got time off, days off and even just chatted to them during activities when kids were playing etc
why do councleors come two weeks prior tho? thats a lot of time without doing what yall came to do huh.. also how many councleors and kids is there? and do u rly dont have ur own room or at least a room with ur coworkers? can u go home after first group of kids go or u have to stay till the end of the summer? also do u know anything abt those "30 days of traveling with ur nw coworker friends" after the camp? and why 30?
Counsellors go 2 weeks before to prepare everything ready for the kids arrival as well as getting to know their job roles, training and making friends. It’s a really important 2 weeks and actually one of the best parts of the experience. Numbers of counsellors and kids will vary at each camp but their websites will give rough numbers. Usually 1 counsellor to every 8-10 kids I would say. At my camp, I didn’t have my own room - we shared with the kids but the more senior staff just shared with co workers and I know at other camps, specialist counsellors sometimes don’t sleep with the kids in the same room, it’s just general foundries that do. There might be an option to go home after the first session but ideally the camp would like you there for the whole time as bringing in a replacement would be hard. Yes you get 30 days as part of your J1 working visa that means after you’ve finished working there you have 30 days to stay in the country and travel if you wish. 30 days is just the rules on the visa, I don’t know why :)

Hey there, loving your video, I'm doing camp this year (two months ahead). And I have a very disquieting question, do you share showers?Meaning no privacy in the shower? Or do u have like individual cabins? Thank you for all your insights:)
Hey thanks so much!! Ahh only 2 months away that’s so exciting! So I guess it may vary from camp to camp but at my camp, the showers were all just cubicles next to eachother with curtains across the front. So you’d never see anyone but were in very close proximity to someone else having a shower. Saying that, you can always find time to use the showers when no one else is! And if you’re more a senior member of staff then you will likely get your own shower ☺️ Have a great time!!
Hey!! Yes I know a couple of people that went after their A-Levels and it normally works fine! I went to camp on the 15th June and when I did my a-levels I finished at the end of May, some people finish early June but it rarely clashes! So definitely apply and if it clashes by a couple of days that’s fine just tell your camp and it will be fine xx
Hey I applied through Camp America which is an agency that guides you through every step and puts you in touch with camps who then choose to hire you! If you watch my video about the application process, it will explain it a little better! But as it was through an agency and more of a summer experience than a job, I got paid what they call pocket money so I think it was like $1000 - $1500 for the whole 2.5 months but it will vary at each camp and if you apply direct to the camps and don’t go through an agency you will get some more money as the agency won’t take a percentage of it! Hope that helps 😌
Hi👋🏼 I’ve been hired as a camp photographer this summer but I’m kinda nervous because I don’t have a lot of experience with photography (I mainly have experience with film and editing). Do you have any tips/ advice?🙏
Hi Michael! Aw this exact same thing happened to me. You’ll be absolutely fine, you’ll just be expected to have basic knowledge of taking pictures on the camera you’re using which you will be shown at camp / can Google. You’ll pick it up quick and from my experience - Sports mode on the camera makes for the best photos whilst the kids do activities. Just make sure you get photos of each kid in their activities & look at previous examples from past years for what kind of stuff you need to do! You’ll have a blast and honestly it’s one of the best jobs you can get at camp and you meet everyone and go everywhere!
hello micheel. I hope you are doing fine, How was your experience as a camp photographer? You liked it ? I was looking too about a position as camp photographer buy i didnt find any. When you have free time, could you send the application process please? Thanks in advance
The interview is basically just the point where Camp America assess whether you are suitable for the programme (so just a nice, all round kind of person) and then if you pass, it will be added to your camp america profile, along with a report about you from your interviewer and then camps can then see your profile and choose to hire you from that! Or after your interview, try and go to a recruitment fair and meet the camps directly and get hired on the spot! 😌🤞
What to do if you are interested to go to one specific camp to go to as a councelor? As I understood, you aply at camp america and camps choose out of applicants. Therefor, the chance to get to your „Dream“ Camp seems very little? @maisiecraddock
You could reach out to that camp directly and introduce yourself etc. I’m not sure exactly how it works but they could then either recruit you via camp america (more preferable as you’ll then have the support of Camp America) or they could hire you directly and then you’ll have to sort your own flights and arrangements to get to camp. If I was you though I would do it via Camp America and you may be able to tell Camp America your preferred camp too or meet them at a recruitment fair. If you don’t get hired by that camp though at least you’ll have the fall back of others doing it that way :)

@@360PATCH hello! Sorry for the delayed response. I don’t know much about Camp Leaders but I have heard of it so don’t think it’s a scam but that does sound like a lot of money! If you’ve not paid anything, I’d suggest applying for camp america instead and see where you get with that. It’s worth seeing what Camp leaders are charging you for as it doesn’t add up really! Do the interview with Camp America, it’s been running for over 60 years and they look after you. It’s only around £800 too so much less! Hope it works out for you
@@MaisieCraddock Hello thank you! I had my interview with camp America a couple days ago and everything went well so i'm now going with them and hopefully I get a placement with a camp this summer :) Thanks for your advice and help!
At my camp they didn’t, camp counsellors would share a bunk with 4 other councillors and the kids. Although if you had more of a leadership position then you would probably just share with fellow leadership colleagues and no kids 😌
You could but I think it would be more difficult to get placed at the same camp unless you apply direct to the same camp. They don’t recommend you go with friends though as it can hold you back from making new ones when you’re there and everyone is in the same boat so you’ll make new ones instantly! ❤️
@@MaisieCraddock Thank you for your quick answer :) So you can apply to directly a camp that you have looked out before? I thought we don't have a choice.
@@kcsenge5085 it’s okay! And you can apply direct to camps but you can’t do it through Camp America. camp America is basically the recruitment agency that finds you the camps and looks after you throughout the whole process but you can do it more independently and apply to a camp directly and then just sort your own flights and visa out etc. It’s harder that way though and I’d suggest for your first time to do it through an agency as they guide you through it!
Hello! Thank you for watching! To be a general camp counsellor you don’t need any special talents, just got to be up to try anything and good with kids! If you’re a specialist counsellor then you need knowledge in that area
Every camp will have its variations and to determine what’s “better” is all down to personal preference. What I’ve described here is common for many of the summer camps that Camp America offer
So it depends on which agency you go with (eg. Camp America / Americamp) but on average camp will pay you $700 - $1300 for the summer but definitely watch my latest Q&A video as I answer this question I more detail there :)

@@360PATCH amazing!! I’m so glad to hear this! I hope it all goes well for you and you have the best summer ever!
What camp were you at?
Chestnut Lake Camp in Pennsylvania!! 💚
Wawwwwww,good job.....
Which camp did you go to?
I went to Chestnut Lake Camp in Pennsylvania!
Do camp counselor get there own room?
At my camp they didn’t, camp counsellors would share a bunk with 4 other councillors and the kids. Although if you had more of a leadership position then you would probably just share with fellow leadership colleagues and no kids 😌
Thank you
Can you go there with friends? Is it possible to end up together?
@@MaisieCraddock Thank you so much ❤️ Can i reach out to you next time when I have other questions?
@@kcsenge5085 of course you can! ❤️
What camp did you go to? Xxxx
Chestnut Lake Camp in Pennsylvania 🤍
is this camp america or Americamp?
Camp America but some people that went to my camp applied through Americamp
hello, friend I am new friend here so please stay connected.

@@MaisieCraddock Aww, you're welcome, beautiful
Maisie, I like your short Jean booty shorts, beautiful. Your short Jean booty shorts are really very beautiful.
Hi. Nice video =) I would really like to ask you if you need to have special talents to be a camp counselor :)
Hello! Thank you for watching! To be a general camp counsellor you don’t need any special talents, just got to be up to try anything and good with kids! If you’re a specialist counsellor then you need knowledge in that area
@@MaisieCraddock Thank you so much for your answer :)
Hey, Maisie. Hey, beautiful.
No that not true not in all of the camp just your camp we have all outside camp bring your own food and way better than whenever you’re explaining
Every camp will have its variations and to determine what’s “better” is all down to personal preference. What I’ve described here is common for many of the summer camps that Camp America offer
Hi ive just found your channel and I love it!!!! Ive just subbed id love it if we could support each other xx
Ew Minsi
I loves working on summer camps !
This is an amazing video !!!
Aww yeah they are so much fun! Thanks girl, so glad you enjoyed x
How much do you get paid?
So it depends on which agency you go with (eg. Camp America / Americamp) but on average camp will pay you $700 - $1300 for the summer but definitely watch my latest Q&A video as I answer this question I more detail there :)
