CHEVY OIL PRESSURE HIGH....FIX!

  • This is the fix 90% of the time when the oil pressure gauge is maxed out. The repair will cost about 50 bucks for the part and about 1 hour of labor. This is the same fix for most Chevy/GMC's.

    Thanx for this video! You have no idea how awesome it is, as a woman, to be able to make these easy repairs myself by watching videos like yours! This fix worked just like you said on my 2006 Chevy Tahoe Z71. I also was able to switch out my 4WD switch after watching another video here! (solving the "4WD Service" light problem). I'm sick of getting taken advantage of $$$ at the mechanic shop, thank you so much!! ;)

      Why do you have to qualify your statement with"as a woman"? What about you being a woman changes anything? What if men always put that qualifier in our statements. As a man I find women using this qualifier a joke!!! We thought you were equal!!! If so you wouldn't need the qualifier!!!

    Mine been doing same thing for days now. Checked oil level is fine and oil still clean. No noises no nothing running good except my gage goes to zero to 80 and bounces around and sometimes levels off . But ya , I'm going to drive it till I can get it fixed. Oil pressure is fine , just a faulty sending unit for the gauge only.

    GET the 1-1/16" oil pressure sensor socket!!! Maybe when you buy the sensor someone could mention there is a special socket that goes with it? Ha! A swivel universal joint on top of the socket and then an extension bar are also pretty much essential items for this project. Having the right tools make all the difference in how frustrating this can be. Thank you for the help!

    Very helpful video. Thanks!
    I also had to use a 1/2" drive socket-but the thick wall wouldn't clear something (manifold runner?). Turned it down in my lathe to get it to fit. I did have a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter which allowed the use of a 3/8 ratchet/extension.I also had to take out the 12mm headed bolt that held the camshaft position sensor to swing that sensor's connector out of the way. The shorter sensor will allow the use of a standard sensor socket. My 30 year old Snap On sensor socket wouldn't fit the new part due to the height. Not sure if the shorter one is available as a replacement part, but it would be easier to use the sensor socket.

  • @evilcowboy
    @evilcowboy 9 лет назад +1

    The red stuff on the old one is thread lock. The "Acoustic Cover" that you had to put back on that said Vortec is always a waste to even bother putting it back on. All it does is make the air flow around the engine not very good. Those covers always end up in one of my closets. I just never believed an engine needed one over it.
    Now if you just like the cosmetic look of it that is OK and cool too. A lot of folks just don't know it does nothing to help the engine.

  • @digital9x

    My oil gage needled pegged to 80 this morning. The fix was exactly what you showed in the video. However, I am not used to seeing the oil gage needed moving as I press down on the gas pedal - at least not as far over to the reading of 60. . I take it this is normal? I bought the truck (2003 Avalanche) used 2 years ago, and the needle has always rested around 40-50. So, I take it I am in good shape now, and just have to get used to the needle moving more to the right now as I get up in speed, yes? BTW, thanks for the video. I thought the mechanic shops (Black's Tire) had done me wrong. Next up, I have to change out the fan knob for the AC/Heater. Speeds 1 and 2 don't work, and speed 3 comes on when it wants to. A blower motor resister was installed today as well, and that brought back some of the speeds, but not all of them. I was told that control panel under the radio will have to be swapped out.

    • @JamesReedy
      @JamesReedy 5 лет назад

      No, the oil pressure should vary as a function of engine speed. 40 PSI at idle is typical, around 60 PSI or so at 3kRPM is what I see on a 2003 5.3L Vortec.

      hey I have a questions about BMW my son wants to buy his first car and he wants a BMW 04 05 or 06 and Im concerned about it because those cars over a hundred thousand miles they tend to have a lot of issues inexpensive ones so my question is can you tell me any reviews about those cars how's your car doing since you been having it?

    • @atuck6082
      @atuck6082 6 лет назад +3

      Tony Tigre I'm a mechanic so anything breaks I'll fix it myself. If you or he knows how to fix on cars then they can be great well over 100 or 200k miles as long as they have a naturally asperated inline 6. Turbo will shorten the life of the engine and requires more maintenance. If you know nothing about cars and or if the intended driver is bad at keeping maintenance up I would not recommend getting it. You will need expensive maintenance if the car has not been properly maintained, and most people don't properly maintain cars. My vehicle had all maintenance records in the glove. Look for a vehicle with records.

I finally succeeded by reaching around with my left hand to release the tab and pulling the connector with my right hand. NOTE: The connector is easily removed once the tab releases it. Bottom line: 40 PSI indicated and pressure rises slightly as I rev the motor. Thanks for your video.

    The switch is for killing the spark if you get zero oil pressure, the pressure sensor is next to the oil filter.

    At 7:30 it's not tapered thread, that would be an interference fit. The crush washer would be useless if threads didn't allow shoulder to bottom out against the washer. Otherwise thanks for the info

    Needle pegged 80+ psi when running or with key on engine off needle should sweep from 0-80 then return to 0 till engine start if it doesn't return to 0, its the sending unit, common problem. tow or fluctuating oil pressure theirs a small filter screen under sending unit, PITA to remove, but a small pick and a good tug gets it out, you can also try spraying carb or brake clean to flush old screen, they clog up with debris and sludge (oil changes ??). Another problem clogged screen gives engine starts but shuts off with-in 30 seconds, PCM needs to see oil pressure with-in 30 sec of engine start or it shuts engine off. Low or fluctuating oil pressure can be "O" ring on pick-up tube, add 2 extra quarts of cheap oil jack up back of vehicle and see if problem goes away. If not oil pump pressure regulator valve in pump maybe stuck replace pump. A spastic or vibrating needle probably stepper motor in gauge cluster, google GM gauge repair, , None of above will cause oil consumption, if you have AFM (active fuel management that drops from V8 to V4 mode particularly the 2006 to ohh about 2010-2012 years google it. just my 2cts worth hope it helps someone GM and ASE master tech 30+ yrs.

      A 1995 GMC with 454 (L19) my gauge needle reads hi 60 - 80 on the dashboard oil pressure dial. Cold and warm.
      Is that okay? To have high oil pressure ? Suburban has 50k miles, and Castrol synthetic 5W30 oil

    Some of these engines also have a screen in the mounting hole that gets plugged. It can be removed with a small, curved pick. Replace it when you replace the sensor…

      When you install a new filter the pressure does go up and it is louder right?
      Here is a thread I found on the issue and what other mechanics and non mechanics were talking about.
      I hope you find some of the info useful.
      Your situation is rare, but not impossible. I would think that the oil bypass in the block would redirect the flow of oil and not cause any problems. We all know that oil pressure that is too high will cause problems and 60 would be about the max I would be safe with.

    anytime a gauge max's out its the ground side of the circuit, weather sending unit gauge or harness is a case by case basis.

    any advice on an 03 1500HD with oil pressure that starts high then bottoms out - pressure increases when i give it some gas but then continues to bottom out while driving. Did an oil change less than 2000 miles ago - filter SPEWED oil at the time. I don't see or smell oil but now i read low unless parked on an incline. Truck runs fine. Going to put some Seafoam in the crankshaft and try to break up any sludge that may be in there and if need be replace the sending unit. praying its not the pump.
