    This is great to watch. I remember when BART first opened in 1972. Then to Richmond,the Concord line, San Francisco - Daly City and finally(for a while) the TransBay tube. I
    I can't believe the Rohr built cars have lasted as long as they have. Many of the Rohr cars have to be pushing 50 years old.

    PS: MAY SEEM LIKE A SILLY QUESTION, BUT DO THESE BART TRAINS TRAVEL ALL THE WAY TO SAN FRANCISCO? I WOULD THINK SO. IF NOT, THEN i WOULD GUESS IN THE NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE. GUESS BART IS FOCUSING ON EXTENSIONS TO THE SOUTH BAY & CIRCLING THE ENTIRE BAY AREA EVENTUALLY. GOOD LUCK BART BOARD OF DIRECTORS. MAKE THOSE SOUTH BAY EXTENSIONS HAPPEN AS THEY WILL NEED TO VERY SOON.

      There was a TV series about transit that concentrated on one city in each episode. When they came to San Francisco they started listing all the different modes: bus, trolley bus, light rail, streetcar, cable car, heavy rail, subway, ferry... well let's put it this way, it's a transit junkie's paradise.

    Clearly good news that this has been extended finally, but American transport design really leaves a lot to be desired. Berryessa station looks like it's come straight out of the 1970s and is awaiting modernisation!

    • @TohaBgood2
      @TohaBgood2 2 года назад

      Strong disagree! BART has fantastic infrastructure. The system has its downsides, but the quality of the infrastructure isn't one of them.
      Unlike even some highly touted European and Asian systems, it's fully accessible, has elevators and escalators everywhere, is open and with lots of light and air. The trains have giant windows, are extremely spacious, have extremely comfortable seats, and allow one to move between the cars. Many of the "best" transit systems are often extremely claustrophobic, downright byzantine in terms of wayfinding, and dark and scary-looking.
      Again, not saying BART is perfect. They definitely need to get rid of the giant parking deserts next to the stations and build housing and commercial. The absolutely need to double the frequency and increase the speeds back to the old 80mph top speed. But bad infrastructure is just not a criticism that is applicable to BART. Even many brand new systems don't look and work this well!

    Noticed on Sunday they haven't quite got the digital maps updated yet, nor it seems the audio announcements.
    How quite and smooth this ride is highlights how underfunded and neglected the rest of BART system is (among most US systems). All of the noise, screeching, and roughness is the result of decades of deferred maintenance. US id parrots a self-fulfilling narrative of degraded transit.

    • @danielcarroll3358
      @danielcarroll3358 4 года назад

      Graffiti has never really been a problem. Remember this is a completely grade separated system with 2/3rds of it either in subway or elevated. Yes, you sometimes get the marking pen stuff on the insides but there are few places to let fly with spray paint and they are patrolled.
