  • I found this film in 2021 at an auction in St. Catherines, Ontario. It was part of a large lot of film including some Kodak yellow boxes with an address pointing to a mining town in Sudbury, Ontario that no longer exists. This recording was the only 16mm reel in the lot, everything else was 8mm.
The opening shot is a view from one of the roofs at the Royal York Hotel. It pans across the facade of Toronto's Union Station and then reveals the view of the waterfront. This is a remarkable view considering the Toronto Harbour Commission Building stands alone near the water. Today this view is filled with condos.
    Timeline:
00:01 - Looking down on Toronto union Station
00:16 - View looking south towards the Toronto Waterfront. York Street
00:21 - Toronto Harbour Commission Building revealed on the left of frame
00:26 - Front and York Street traffic. Lost Buildings
00:37 - Gardner McCrea Ltd. building and street scene
00:53 - Dodge Desoto Used Cars, Gardner McCrea Dealership 2187-9 Bloor West. Near Runnymede goo.gl/maps/MZ...
01:21 - Gates of the CNE
01:41 - Marry Go Round and Kiddieland Rides at CNE
02:04 - Elephant rides at CNE
02:19 - Strange People as made Famous By Ripley Freak Show
02:26 - "Darkest Africa" stage show
02:35 - Waterplane docked. Toronto Waterfront
02:51 - Tomato truck crash, spillover. First on scene
03:26 - Girl on bicycle in backyard. Family scene
03:51 - Standing in front of unknown building. Possibly CNE grounds
04:11 - Parade and clown car with kids chasing
04:37 - Sudbury Rotary Street Fair. Cedar and Durham Street downtown
07:25 - Deep dive and construction in the ice at a dock
08:05 - Christmas scenes with puppy and family
09:58 - Outdoor scene near small bridge and war canon
Thanks to an individual on Reddit for finding the address of the car dealership on Bloor Street West. The Car company was from Sudbury according to a phone book listing from 1949.

The diver is in Lake Ramsey , in the background is the City of Sudbury Fresh Water Pumping Station. The canon is at some point on Bell Park overlooking Lake Ramsey

Awesome! I was waiting for the snow to show up in some clip, after all it's the integral part of Canada! Finally snow showed up, but remarkably most of them are shot in summer it seems! I wish people would wear such clothes too now. Anyway, real gem this video is!
