BORN IN SUDBURY 1948 and still here. In all those years i've learnt that Sudbury is unique for sure . You can talk to anyone who grew up in this area.anytime. In Sudbury people talk to other people. There is a Northern feel to Sudbury. My favourite saying is : IT"S GREAT TO BE A NORTHERNER !.

As a former resident of Sudbury, growing up there in the 1950's and 1960's, if you think the super stack is a negative, think about what Sudbury was like before the super stack, many days not being able to go out for recess due to pollution coming from INCO and lack of vegetation, now so much better. As well now living in southern Ontario, let me say that actual temperature during Sudbury winters (I remember walking to school in -40 degrees F, which is actually the same as -40 degrees C), but with very low humidity is better than half as cold but high humidity. You can dress for Sudbury cold, not so easy with high humidity cold.

Moved to Sudbury 5 months ago. Can't say much yet as I am mostly sitting home - it either was quarantine, or stay at home order and now I am just glued to my computer and on-line classes LOL. I wish I could go to Science North and Big Nickel, but for now I have only been to the trails at the Laurentian conservation area and I love them! I love outdoors but looks like you cannot enjoy the outdoors to its full, if you don't have a car. Hopefully, when I graduate I will get myself a vehicle and will drive along and across the Sudbury surroundings!

Your number one, the outdoors, is why I'm considering Sudbury as the get away city for me. Coming from Windsor, I feel like I'm getting sandwiched in between literally the entirety of Canada and the United States. I can feel society slowly becoming more and more compacted down south, and it's figuratively making me constipated per say.

    • @frozenclown4120
      @frozenclown4120 2 года назад

1 year later it's almost the same as Windsor. Thanks to the southern Ontario people, our outdoors are going away, our "spread out" city is very quickly filling up and that costs our outdoors.
On top of that, this is becoming equal to down Souths housing market, but a way worse economy, higher property tax, and now these housing prices are unlivable for all original sudbarians. So thanks for that

You missed one of the worse things about Sudbury and why I'll never move back there. THE DRUGS. The epidemic going on there is out of control. Needles in the streets, park and school yards. People overdosing on park benches like it's a normal thing to happen on a Saturday night. That's why businesses close when the sun goes down cause the junkies reign downtown. It's a cesspool, which is unfortunate because the environment in which Sudbury is based in is beautiful.

It is frustrating that this issue exists, and for sure it is here; it's an issue facing not just Sudbury but most big cities. I think it stems from mental health and homelessness more than anything else. It is amazing to see great community resources like Inner City Home here in Sudbury to help with the problem, but it is clearly an uphill battle.

Our nickle is running much lower, this created the need for expansion, think about why sudbury is buying out public parks, and lakes to find more nickel. Better yet, why the push to create a mock up southern ontario... were trying to push expansion so fast to try and fill the job demands of this expansion.
Sudbury will be a new market/Barrie of ontario within 5 years, mark my words

The drugs are bad, nearly ever Tim's had a needle bin, i was told by someone working at tims that the downtown core was bad for drug use. I would not recommend anyone move to Sudbury. The property taxes are extremely high and are raised annually by about 5%. I've never lived in a city that raises taxes every single year by that much. We actually pay higher property taxes then people do in larger cities like Toronto. Sudbury is pretty spread out and all those tax dollars get spent on special projects in an ongoing effort to revitalize the downtown core. These revitalization efforts have been ongoing for at least 30 or 40 years and haven't improved anything...I would argue that things are worse now. If you want to move to this area. I would advise living just outside of Sudbury where the taxes are much lower and you're not really missing out on any services.

In 2019 Dec herniated another disc . In Oct after being under the care of a nurse practitioner I went to our hospital Oct of 2020 ,one week before Halloween. They ordered a MRI ,the Dr wrote urgent , priority one ,in Dec they sent my appointment for may 22, 2021 at 2:30am. After calling I finally got in one month earlier at 12:30am. I personally have spent a lot of time in Sudbury and I have lived in a lot of places all over Canada . The city it self is one backwards place on so many levels . I never found the attraction of the city it’s a rough spot if you live on the outskirts copper cliff - Garson the valley or Chemmy . If your into lifted trucks and getting drunk by noon on a Tuesday it’s the place for you if you like negativity it’s also a great place !
The city it set is falling apart it might have lots of parks and lakes just be careful of all the junkies and odd characters walking around . I would not recommend the place as it eats away at your soul !
Downtown is safe I guess kinda . Your car is not safe many break ins happen to cars at hotels in the downtown core . Go to any part of Sudbury and there’s someone collecting change on a street corner . Get to know people around Sudbury and see how there family dynamics are you find lots of broken homes and high rates of abuse ! The place it self has blended family after blended family just read the local news and all the arrests that take place in the city beating your spouse is so common there it’s acceptable nobody bats an eye .
The youth is backwards no idea on anything there parents give them little to no direction they can not keep employment for the life of them . If your going to move to Sudbury as a young guy and want to fit . 1- start using drugs coke is a good place to start you will get many friends from nose candy ! 2- get a a tattoo something that says I’m a total D bag like fish or trees but make sure it’s an arm sleeve . But you want it too look cheap because Sudbury it still flys ! 3 - get a truck lifted 35 inch tires with a big light on front but make sure you get exhaust system so people can hear you coming ! I highly suggest straight pipe from the headers back get you a lot of attention ! 4 employment well you don’t need that talk about some rich uncle you have and if you don’t just make it up because it’s Sudbury nobody knows any different anyways ! 5 learn to take steroids you don’t have to hit a gym just shove that needle in your butt and you golden ! Now your officially a KING IN THE NICKLE CAPITAL of the world ! If you knock a girl up refer to her as A baby momma that’s really classy in Sudbury as well !
I have met in all in that city if you take those pointers and decided to move there listen to me you will succeed in life !
And ART if you love ART this is the place for you only place I have ever seen they paint green boxes lovely art everywhere you can seee ! Just check out the old hospital I heard rumours the place was haunted well the people of this great town came up with the most amazing idea just go look at the it ! Ghost issue gone no ghosts would want live in that anymore the painting it self looks like crap.!
The homeless they have tent city’s that pop up in the downtown core don’t worry the city gets them off and they move locations often . Side walks are washrooms crazy nutty people running around the downtown core . It’s awesome just great !

Dont move here. It's very naturalistic but very run down. You can find nature somewhere else. Most buildings are not handicapable, the weather is freezing, most rentals are run by slumlords who dont care about cockroach infestations, buildings are shutting down due to bankruptcy, there is rumor of the mall closing down (theres another one in the south end but most stores cant afford rent so it's mostly empty), housing prices are sky rocketing up even though there isnt alot of jobs. I just moved from there after living there for four years and will never move back. Also advoid downtown as the homeless is the worse I've seen in any area with needles covering the sidewalks and pathways. The city also doesnt place any boxes to help with the needle problem. Forget walking in the winter as the town barely has money to plow roadways never mind sidewalks. Alot of the town also doesnt have sidewalks so it forces you to get a car. It takes months for me to get medical care when in the GTA it takes weeks. If you are completely healthy, love winter, work in the mines and are white it's perfect. But alot of us dont fit into this.

Nice video!! Very engaging from beginning to end. Nevertheless, businesses and investment are the easiest way to make money irrespective of which party makes it to the oval office.

Welcome to the worst city In The North drive around here and you will notice the horrible roads ...and the city let’s this happen ...working hand and hand with the road building contractors..using substandard materials .....the highest taxes don’t be believe me look it up and compare it ....the downcore is dead taxes and rent is so high that the prices reflect it ...not to mention the opioid crises and the needles all over the place the homeless...constantly break and enters on homes and businesses...jobs what jobs retail is dead if you have a trade well you will do ok
I was told this about the city ...welcome to the poorest city in the North
Eh buddy you say the frost wrecks the roads ...ya ya what ever...if the roads were built right ...proper materials and proper documents instead of bogus ones ...the roads would last more than a year ...all tests are bogus ...and when questioned the contractors say look we have test to prove ...but behind the seems it’s all bogus ....
Don’t believe me ...then tell me why a road is redone and 4-6 months later it’s crumbling..asphalt just crumbles curbs and sidewalks break
Do core samples and you will get your asnswer
Just so sick of the lies and b.s about our roads
Yes great for the North and the outdoors and all the outdoors have to offer .....but the politics is way too corrupt and too many big heavy hitters in this town are greasing there pockets
The laws rules are just whacked ...permits are outrageous high..look it up and compare it to other towns!
I can go on and on
Don’t get me wrong I love Sudbury....but what goes on here will make you go hmmmm
    Cheers and enjoy this town
