B minor has a F# in it, clashes with the established scale of the song, B diminished is the chord you’re looking to play, or even better to bring the jazziness to the song you’d take Bm7b5 everyone else is talking about ^ but if you go one jazzy chord like Bminor7-flat5 use the other 7th chords too

Thanks for this- it would be nice to hear the melody, simultaneously with the chords- the F to B is a bit unusual? would be good to have heard how the melody fits with that.
Id play the d minor where the b is. I just came looking at how people are strumming and that b seems to be going round. Doesnt really make sense to my ear but a dm does. ....?
It doesn’t make sense because B minor is a wrong chord there, the chord should be b diminished, look up circle of fifths

It's too much simplified. You need more 7th chords configuration not only for E7sus4 or E7.
It should be basically Am-Dm-G-Cmaj7, Fmaj7-Bm7b5-E7sus4-E7.
Also m7th even on Am and Dm in some parts as well.
First of all, you should know what the diatonic chords are.
The key of this song is Am. Diatonic chords of Key=Am (same as Key=C) are :
Am, Bm7(b5), C, Dm, Em, F and G.
(Am7, Bm7(b5), Cmaj7, Dm7, Fmaj7 and Gm7)
When you use "power chords" omitting the 3rd tones (which means that you are neglecting the distinction between major chords and minor chords written above), they still includes P5 (the perfect 5th).
This would be totally inharmonic to Bm7(b5) that has b5th instead of P5, and cause dis-tonality to the whole progression as well. Also it would certainly affect the melody lines (scales) on them.
Besides, you cannot neglect the distinction between major chords and minor chords especially when the resolution pattern employs major/minor transition.
For instance, for Dm-G- and F-Bm7b5, you cannot use D instead of Dm nor B for Bm7b5 on this transition.
D and B are not on the matrix of Am diatonic chords (To understand how the progression was constructed, check out the diagram of "the circle of 5th" as well).
Either, when you use 7th for the resolution (like Esus4-E7), the previous chords might follow that resolution pattern and better use 7th chords as well (for instance, C and F shall be Cmaj7, Fmaj7 ) because Esus4 and E7 were originally based on minor chord Em (not E) according to the Am diatonic chords.
@@zero-east-23 The E7 is harmonized from the A harmonic minor scale, many relative minor tonality songs will include the raised seventh note to make the dominant chord a major triad instead of a minor triad. The chords to the Gloria Gaynor version are Am7, Dm7, G, Cmaj7, Fmaj7, Bm7b5, E7sus4, E7. Unfortunately a band called Cake played a version that went Am7, Dm7, G, C, F, B, E, E7 which is like a grunge music version of the original and has become popular as an alternative version. Maybe this instructor listened to the Cake version instead of the original. The B major chord sounds jarring but that sticks in people’s heads since the Cake version is more recent.
