You should always double flare hydraulic steel brake lines

every car i ever owned had a brake line go out on me, you are lucky to have a lift rack, its a pain in the ass using reg jacks to do these types of line jobs.

I have to do this pretty soon on my '92 F150. Because it is so old I know I need to replace the brake line all the way to the master cylinder, but my plan is to replace the steel line to the rear brakes and then repair the bad spot just forward of the rear axle. That should get me going until I get the rest of the brake line. I am ordering pre bent brake lines. So your video was informative.

Buy a double flare kit, read the instructions or you can buy the double flare inserts for the flare tool you already have (they are standard) and youtube how to double flare. If you have rusting lines get ready to do all of them sooner than later, advice from the rust belt.

Get a 7$ file to make the ends of the brake line perfectly flat and level. It will drastically help get a straight flare.

Thanks for the video. My 2001 Camry's brake line broke in the driveway. Lucky me and not on the Atlanta highway. My Dad taught me how to use a park brake properly when necessary! But, the brake line is broken before it gets to the wheel hub. It was hard to find a video that is related to this issue. I enjoyed the commentary. And the reference to The Eurythmics. Wish me luck. I'm going in the trenches tomorrow to fix this issue myself. Great video!

So it looks like you guys only did single flares. That's not actually DOT approved. You should be doing Double Flares. Single flares are technically weaker than the pipe while double flares are the strongest point of the system.

So I noticed the comments are mentioning a double flare I’m rather new to mechanical work myself still learning the basics and I need to replace a portion of brake line that needs to be reshaped since it’s near the rear driver side caliper. But overall good video easy to follow and at least the jokes kept my attention, better than monologues.

Theres another one, a guy walks CORRECTLY through it. He’s done a few of them , stresses NOT to let the tube move, even used white out, to mark the slippage if any. This is about life or death. Read up FIRST!

This is half text book of how NOT to replace a rusty brake line. Using unions, good. Just shoving a cone into the end of the line without creating a bubble flare first, very bad. Flaring a line like that is a great way to crack the end and have a leak once it's been tightened. The end of the line must must be folded in on itself first , then use the cone. If you have the ability to flare lines, it is always faster and cheaper to replace the entire line from end to end and reuse the old flare nuts instead of piecing together sections like this. Less chance of leaks from the line you repair as well as other lines in the same area from disturbing them. Also, NEVER USE COMPRESSION FITTINGS!!!!!

It might help to have X-Ray vision while working on cars I find, then if you can engage InraRed that also helps. You need a Predator head kit (like the movie) and select what wavelength works best. Oh and a 1Million Lumen Superbright laser powered spotlight is a very useful addition to your toolkit.
