I recently bought the Riversmith 4 banger fly rod vault. I’ve used it twice and it is extremely convenient. Keeps the rods safe, leaves a ton more room inside my vehicle, and saves a bunch of time re-lining the rod between stops. Is it necessary, no. But if you can afford it, your fishing adventures will certainly be improved. Plus do you realize how hard I look driving around with my 4 Runner with a fly rod vault on the top? I’ve started carrying a bat to keep the women off of me.
Have a two banger on my Volkswagen golf, the plan is to get another two banger and two 4 bangers to build a latter rack out of them so it doubles as a work vehicle.

I usually take 2 rods out in my old single cab pick up. Reels go in the center console cup holder and the rods go out the back window over the bed. cup holders havent failed me yet
bought the Orvis magnetic holder 15 years ago works great jumping from hole to hole while driving . Holds 6 rods but as the huge man says things can hit the rods while drying I e: pheasants. Black birds coming out of a field , mud chunks from beet trucks , fortunately I have never had a rod broken. Up side of these is if you travel a lot in rental vehicles they fit almost all except the ones with fiberglass hoods . Have a Rodsmith car top holder on my Sequoia works good looks cool :-) upside for me can travel 80mph don’t have to worry about rods , get to busy boat ramp back trailer in dump boat pull rods out your fishing . Another option is the rod sleeves I use these on all my Spey rods just break down the rod in half slip in sleeve good to go there cheap and come in different colors, use different colors to signify weight of rod I have in them . I have a full sized truck with no cover on the bed. I use a bungie cord strung along the inside of the bed diagonally from front top to rear bottom, and I tuck the reel in between the bungie and the side of the bed. The reel goes into the corner, closest to the cab. The wheel well keeps the tips from getting stuck in the gap between the gate and the bed. It's worked great for years now. Downside: requires tie down points inside the bed to work. My dad's older truck has no such tie downs so he's screwed. Rod vault for him, I guess
I bought a double haul from Yakima last year...there are a lot of things about it I think are great (the ease to hit the water for steelhead between work and sunset is a HUGE reason...lol!) but having rods ready to go when fishing with kids makes everything so much easier!
if you pile up the rods in the middle of the car (or run them through the back cab window of a truck like I do), run the leader around the arbor of the reel, hook the fly to the stripping guide. then take the leader butt and wrap it once around the rod and stripping guide. its hard to explain in writing but it stops the rods from getting all tangled.
If you break your rod in two between spots make sure to have two garden velcro strips on your person. The garden ones are wide and cheap. Put one at the grip and one 2/3s the way up keeps your line under control, especially mono, and it keeps the rod(s) from shifting. I have one of the inside, bungee style systems in my SUV, but this works great in almost any scenario. It's also a go to when I'm bushwhacking. My line gets caught in the trees a lot less. I hate line in the trees!!! I hate it more than spider web in the face. The worst is spider web in the face and then rod in the trees.

$2000 for their 2 rod case and $4000 for their 6 rod case, they must be out of their MIND!!!! I know what material cost, I know what labor cost. Their markup must be HUGE! There are other vaults out there for less that 1/3 the price of these, and they are, in my opinion, better. Full aluminum, hold up to 6 rods, no stupid tubes to break off you guides as you slide them in. Oh and you can get those in colors too.
Dude... For someone older like myself...bad eyesight and fingers that don't work like they used to...its a HUGE benefit to be able to leave my gear rigged up. I hate tying anything smaller than 16 with 6x or 7x tippet. Frustrating...
You forgot about the number one reason to have a rod vault. If I get one it would be home made and it would only be a one rod vault. The reason you ask? so when I'm fishing with a buddy I get to the hole first with a setup rod. #1 way to catch more fish then your buddy
Take it apart at the middle, and stick it into the car. That way you can leave the car for food or beer or whatever. And those suction things can be made "for nothing", by buying two glass carrying things at some tool shop.

I keep my rods in a tube but I have to drive from spot to spot on my river. Considering one of those magnetic deals. Anyone got experience with them? What do you love about them, and what do you hate about them? Ready, GO!
We will not bow down to any sponsor 🤣. I like the internal rod holding system. Need to do that.
the wind kept blowing the aspens behind you and i kept half expecting/wanting to see someone creeping behind you, real subtle like. is that weird?
is fish!
no
is Big Foot!
Is a 1 piece rod an acceptable reason to get a vault?
I don’t have a rod carrier on my truck nor do I need one however someday I will probably have one.
😂😂😂 the outlet mall comment
Another banger my friend. I use a ultamate rod case. They make a hybrid case that even fits spinning rods. I know you def wouldn’t use that though.
Do I rip Ben for selling out and acquiring a "rod vault," or am I happy because he's having some success? Tough call.
Ride wave as far as you want dude! #stayhuge
people have more than one fly pole?
Or you fish Great Lake steelhead and need to hop around locations cause it’s shoulder to shoulder sometimes.
What if you own a Fly fishing shop? then can you have a rod vault? LOL
Was thinking about making a rod vault out of pbc
I don't have 1300 for a fly rod safe
Be prepared. It's an absolute pain.
2005 buick le sabre holds a lot of rods in it's trunk
I’m dying this is great!!!
So I gotta know. Whats the beef with moonshine. Maybe I missed one of the videos but I have heard 2 jabs now and I'm curious.
I don't have or plan on getting one BTW lol.
Read the comments, Danny. It’s already been addressed. I’m here to help, but this is fly fishing. You have to do the work yourself.
Holding your rods outside the window while your buddy drives to the next spot
I use the bungee cord on the inside technique, and my kids love to play with my rods while I cringe.
Rod vault? Really?! I bet you’ll start fishing 22+ sized midges now. 🤦♂️
Dude... For someone older like myself...bad eyesight and fingers that don't work like they used to...its a HUGE benefit to be able to leave my gear rigged up. I hate tying anything smaller than 16 with 6x or 7x tippet. Frustrating...
Dip it in ranch.... Is that the happy family truckster?
You forgot about the number one reason to have a rod vault. If I get one it would be home made and it would only be a one rod vault. The reason you ask? so when I'm fishing with a buddy I get to the hole first with a setup rod. #1 way to catch more fish then your buddy
Now THAT is a good reason for a rod vault.
I don't see fly fishing as a competition. If folks want to go the route become a profession bass guy.
@@danielburgess7785 lol 😆 you realize huge fly fisherman is 60% jokes right
@@evanhammond7305 Quite.
Good thing they are water proof. I would hate to get my "Fish Poles" wet.
Take it apart at the middle, and stick it into the car. That way you can leave the car for food or beer or whatever. And those suction things can be made "for nothing", by buying two glass carrying things at some tool shop.
10000000000% Great info here!!!!!
I love my vac rac.
I smell a sponsor coming up.
Nice video, thanks for showing options and products that are out there.
Ford LTD country esquire station wagon. You found the one thing more huger than yourself.
probably a tenkara fisher who hit your garage. was too busy staring at his box of nymphs
He definitely knows his shizz and hes also , " FLY" 🤫🤔🙄 ....
My garage may have been struck as well! "Allegedly"
Does this video mean I can buy a rod vault & keep my stickers?
Was this a video or an advertisement?
Both
Jealous of the station wagon!
When does the video begin and the advertisement end?
At the beginning.
The rod vaults are also it a big sign that says “steal me”
I don't need a rod vault; my tenkara is a collapsible/telescopic rod.
Ben, you got a rod vault to fit my tenkara pole? (That's what she said...)
Word up. If your gonna fish a lot sure get one because it’s more practical. But if your the dude who’s got twin 6bangers, For your weekend trip to deckers bruh stop
