Alicudi, the last Aeolian island on the north-west side. No roads, no cars, no noise. Just stairs, trails and silence.
If you want to feel the soul of this wild island you need to stay not less than a couple of days. The minimum to understand its difference, leaving the short seaside promenade to start one of its several trail that climb the mountain, leading to something you could not even imagine while staying downstairs. The sea all around is beautiful but the real Alicudi is up on the mountain.
There is no way to describe in words the character of this place, you must experience it on your own. Just go there, walk up and down the hill, breath the aromas, listen to the wind, look to the sun shining over the fields of ferns and, at night, try to count the stars in the sky.
Then take one or two bottles of water, put your hat on and leave for the hike to the top early in the morning to catch the sun rising behind Filicudi. No particular difficulties but surely a tiresome climb step by step to reach the altitude of 650 meters. Over there, I'm sure, you will understand and you won't forget Alicudi for ever.
Last but not least, don't miss the local people. They are not so many but they have a lot to tell you. Listen to their stories, to their conversations and try to imagine how life could be in this forgotten land.

Sì, il Rosina B&B, la signora cucina benissimo e si mangia cucina casalinga con prodotti locali. Le salite sono toste in effetti ma si può alloggiare anche vicino all’imbarcadero. Ne vale comunque la pena. Ciao Anna!
