- The DoubleTree Portland has fired the two employees - a security guard and a manager - responsible for evicting an African-American hotel guest who was talking on the phone in the lobby.
Glad they fired both of them. The manager could of took care of the issue right on the spot but no he followed Earls lead and now he is following him to the unemployment line.
Yep. How silly was that for the manager to go along with Earl?
The guest even asked Earl, "Do you really want this PR issue?"
That was his opportunity to let it go. Obviously he could not.

I was thinking the same thing. He allowed Earl to get him fired. These ws are cowards. The manager could of stood up to Earl but he didn't and now they both out of a job. But they never go against their own people even when they know they're wrong. Like Phil says they "stay on code". Very few of them stand up to wrong but not many. They allow it to happen and join in.

Yes, the cop he should have faced disciplinary action. The employee accused a hotel guest of loitering, which is too ridiculous. When the so called cop verified he was an actual hotel guest that false complaint should have been thrown out. A real cop would have turned the heat on the employees for calling him their on a false information. Since the cop could not perform this simple task of his duties, he should be reprimanded.

Good point, sir. I appreciate the fact that this gentleman conducted himself with class and decorum. When people react in situations like this with loud, angry voices and profanity, it causes them to lose their credibility, and reenforces the negative stereotypes imposed on people of color.

The double tree is very racists I worked at the one in Washington state for 13 years I had to quite I just couldn't take it anymore.
Oh and I forgot to mention not being a guest doesn’t justify kicking out anyone. I’ve been to conferences symposiums etc in hotels that I never stayed in and hanging out in the lobby while waiting for rides or on break etc earl had no justification no matter what to kick the guy out

Glad the gentleman who was getting harrassed for no reason get his justice. It's so sad we live in a society where people of a different skin color get mistreated like that. I was at a place getting food with my son last month, and after I ordered the cashier asked to see my ID. I understand that but what got me heated was the 2 Caucasian people that ordered before me, and several more Caucasians after me the cashier did NOT ask for THEIR ID. I called them out on it when I was leaving and they apologized, but still, they already did what they did. So I wrote my experience of what happened to me on Google reviews, and someone from their establishment immediately apologized for what happened. I told my 10 year old son who was with me that day to always stick up for yourself and to never let anyone mistreat you like that.

I don't know who or how the state would determine that, but this would probably fall under misconduct and make them ineligible to collect, especially with the viral video and national news picking up the story.

I worked for double tree before and I was told by another employee who wasn't my manager that I couldn't sit in front of the building while waiting for my ride asked me to go to the back of the building and wait. Made no sense. My clothes were neat and clean and I wasn't smoking so what's the reason. The employee who told me this was African. I had just started the job and it seemed funny to me that the manager never said anything about me being out front. For several reasons so glad I resigned from there. Management and the work crew were very rude.
I may be wrong about this, But a lot of Africans DO NOT like African Americans. The reason I say this is because I have met several Africans, MAINLY males from Nigeria that would question me and once I mentioned that I am African American their response is YOU ARE AMERICAN??? UGH!!! I have also ran across RUDE lady Africans, One that I saw who works at Hilton hotel here in Austin, Was always super RUDE to me every time she saw me, She wouldn't speak to me and she spoke to everyone else. All she would ever do was give me VERY UGLY STARES, (It made me feel SO uncomfortable) and tell me not to make a mess in the restroom. I kept telling her that I am not a messy person! I have done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to this woman! She treated me as if I was a 6 year old. I ended up arguing with that woman every time I ran across her, It seemed like she kept trying to provoke something with me. She was a janitorial employee there. I don't go to that hotel anymore. It's just by my EXPERIENCE, I have always met rude African people. I call those types BLACK SUPREMACISTS...Because they hate their own kin. I DON'T BELIEVE all are rude... And I DON'T HATE Africans, But I just don't get it, WHY people come from other countries onto American soil and be rude to us, Especially us blacks and expect us to speak their language, And I'm talking about all races and cultures on that part.
