I'm a woman grinding it out along with you to get better at this amazing and frustrating game 🤩 I've played in 2 over the board chess tournaments and I'm the only woman in the room and certainly the only 61 year old!! There are usually a couple of young girls and they're amazing. My chess goal is to play more accurate games and reach 1000 soon. I look forward to watching you reach 2000!!
Well done Patrick, but you misunderstood something in the analysis. You said that if Black had played that Nc3 fork (21:51) the game would have been over for you, but not at all. You assumed that after Rb2, Black's Nxe2+ would win the b2 rook (which is now discover attacked by the bishop on g7), but that R on b2 can simply take the checking Knight on e2 and all is well.
I have been following your journey for a couple of months now. I find it calming and helps normalize my expectations for my own journey. I admit that I don’t generally say oh no, and shoot when I mess up😂 My goal is to see how much I can improve. I have had a wonderful coach for 10 months now, and I am slowly making my way to 1000…it is a roller coaster, which seems to be normal. I am a 70 year old woman 🙂 Good luck with your chess journey 🙂 I also always thank my opponents for the game.
Hey Patrick thanks for the shoutout! I'm happy that you actually read the comments. In this game though, as you realized, the fianchetto changes everything. It's not a typical Caro-Kann any more and the c4/d5 plan no longer makes sense. I find it very difficult to resist playing pseudo Yugoslav Attacks against this setup (Be3, Qd2, Bh6, O-O-O, h4-h5 etc) but you could also play more calmly with O-O and c3.
21:48 No, they don't win the rook with this check. The engine gives Nc6, there is no way to just win the rook, but the position is very poor for white, which means white is probably going to lose material soon.
Patrick I started watching your games this fall and really enjoy watching your games and your narration. I’ve started my own goal to hit a rating of 1000. It’s gonna be slow. Keep up the good work.
My Girl Friend has recently started to take an interest on Chess and she was getting impatient by losing games frequently. So I sent your channel to her to tell her that chess is a journey and that a dynamic way to learn is by watching other people playing. Good year to you Patrick and good win on this game.
Hey Patrick great videos .I would like to know which camera and microphone you use for recording?Would appreciate your reply as I started a YT channel as well.
My wife is not into chess but has watched one or two of your videos. She likes the "calm and relaxing vibe." Maybe you could get your wife to play a game with your help and we can all get our significant others to watch and play one too! New year's resolution: complete a marathon before my first child comes in June.
Patrick another game where I feel you were in a losing position being a pawn down but somehow you hung in there & got a resignation after an obvious blunder. Your opponent giving up one of their two horses for a minor piece was a less obvious blunder as she was in prime position to take one of your rooks with that fork you spotted. Those two horses also were covering a lot of squares with octopos moves and to lose one took a lot of pressure off you. That kinda evened up the game. Anyway keep trying and you might just get to 1600 soon.
Not a perfect game. And another premature resignation in my opinion (though clearly the end was won for white but at this level blunders can still occur). But you went toe to toe with a 1550 player and won. I agree that you have improved. You are playing at 1500+ level now. Great to see. I think you will hit 1600 in the next 3-6 months.

Patrick is a cool guy. You can feel the aura even when watching his videos. Keep improving champ!!
Good job, Patrick ... you were eyeing those two rooks on the 7th rank before your opponent resigned.
My new year resolution: Witness 10k subscribers to Chess with Patrick and I hope witness you going over 1600 very soon. Have a wonderful year Patrick!

He who blunders first....loses.
Just like options trading.
With your video in the bottom right of screen during review, we can’t see the Eval bar. Would be nice to see that during review.
Goal in 2025 play the Cow Opening like Anna Cramling😊😅
Nice feel good win!
You definitely have improved
Did not see that outcome. Congrats

people just resign when they make a one move blunder usually
42m. I watch you with my 11 year old daughter, Lila.
They blundered, you won. Pretty much the story today. Gg, Patrick
Top g!
Man you are not gonna get to 2000. You can realistically get to 1750 in 5 years. Sorry to tell you
