Its not an Alien gambit and its not new! I have played this opening for over 20 years including many correspondence games! Also beginning of December 2023 I did beat 2 CMs in over the board games with this. Both games happened in Latvian team championship, one in Rapid another in blitz. Rapid game was also published on Facebook by tournament arbiter. Additional info - even your opponent has stolen my idea - he missed to demonstrate to you even the main strategic idea why I am playing the opening this way and why the piece is scarified. Additionally - the streamer whom you mentioned also does not know how to contribute the author because obviously by his age he can't be an author to this. I first invented this sacrifice in late 199ties in my correspondence games and used it to trick opponents who used computers because engines of that time could not correctly asses long term positional plans that white have here. I still play it in blitz and rapid games, but as I am not playing this in correspondence anymore - I stopped hiding it and for about last 3-4 years I play it on lichess and other online platforms often - so it got popular and got stolen and named Alien gambit - I am not alien - I am Vairis from Latvia and I play it for over 20 years!
@ericrosen awesome. When did you start calculating/considering the queen sac at 12:59? Seems like the entire thought process and calculation took less than 20 seconds.
He started calculating at 12:57 at the latest. He was clearly already expecting the bishop block because the Queen was going to mate on H2. The Bishop was one of the better candidate moves for White. That is why immediately after the move he is already saying how insane it would be if he could take.

I play the caro kann a lot and have faced this opening numerous times but had no idea it was a meme opening. Thank you for this video! Imma go check out how I've done against it...
This is funny the repertoire I bought also covers this line. Essentially black should play e6 and drop the king back to g8 when white goes Ne5 and Bc4. Black is pretty cozy and if white goes d4 then the usual plan of undermining it with c5 is pretty strong
