    • @sharpjk
      @sharpjk 5 месяцев назад

      yes you can make silage with fresh cut napier grass...the reason it is left to dry is to reduce water content and increase dry matter which will increase total nutrition taken in by the animal

      @Farmwithpaul  Месяц назад

      Depends on how well it was prepared and wilted

  • @halbeklijnstra
    @halbeklijnstra Год назад +28

    Why add molasses. Not need for fermentation. The bacteria have enough starch from the added maize bran. So if (plenty of) starch is available and than no sugar is needed. There is no one Europe adding molasses in maize silage, because it is full of starch. The idea of adding maiz germ is a very good one because also the the dry matter content is enlarged. Good for fermentation and good for energy level. Generally good fermentation you get with dry matter contents above 30%. We make a lot of grass silage in Holland and wilt it one or two days from 20% dm till 40% dm. Than we ensile without adding anything. (This is possible because our varieties of grass have enough sugar)

    • @Farmwithpaul
      @Farmwithpaul  Год назад +1

      Most farmer still feed see it hard to feed full corn silage to their cows and hence wait till the maize has completely matured for harvest of dry maize and ensile stovers which are less in energy and hence molases is needed. In nappier, starch is low hence adding molases is a good idea. Im maize not needed coz it only adds a minimal energy to the fodder and facilitate remen microbs development
