Excellent tutorial. I'm semi-new to retouching so it's all still a little confusing. But videos like this have been so helpful (and inspiring) for me to start taking my retouching work up a notch. Thank you! New subscriber :)
Thanks a lot. I have problems with knowing between blemishes and those spots that can be fixed using dodge and burn. I remove all of them using healing brush tool and spot healing tool. Please help me with that. 💗
Hey guys very simple way to dodge and burn that gets the same results: make a new empty layer, change the blend to Soft Light and that is it. switch between black and white to dodge or burn. :)
Pen pressure brush. As i am quite skilled and saves me lots of time changing my flow all the time. For beginners I definitely recommend no pressure brush with 1% flow and build up from there.
Vera Change i ve been using pen pressure for the last two years but then decided once to take it off and it feels easier for me.well i only do grey layer,i never tried curves ever. Thanks for reply!
oh damn i didnt even see the dark parts until you showed the before and after, i might need to boost my contrast helper layer until my eyes get more sensitive to the difference
I have followed every step, just like in the video, but when I apply the action onto my background and want to use the brush, it just doesn‘t work :( what am I doing wrong?
Hi! I have a question. Is it possible to apply the same adjustment layer (an adjustment layer that has been inverted and painted on) to another image? This is what I've tried: 1) Exported the adjustment layer as a Color Lookup Table 2) Navigated to Image > Adjustments > Color Lookup... 3) Selected the exported layer (the Color Lookup Table), but... nothing happened... Any help is appreciated.
Just drag and drop the adjustment layer to another image open in the same window, on another tab. Hold shift down so it lands exactly as it should, then release the mouse 😊
you have to make it yourself she says, it isn't that hard tho. dodging and burning is manual work, so the action is just to set up curves layers with a mask. and that part is quick enough where you dont really need an action; but i guess the minute you save adds up.
@@VeraChange is that because this model's skin is so good? what if there was a lot of redness and bumps and hair that should've been shaved; is it standard to dodge and burn in the industry? how would you do it? or would frequency separation be acceptable?
@@hiddenbyfog3084 No because smoothing makes your subject look like a plastic doll and will erase texture. If there's a lot of redness you should use high freq seperation and use either the mixture brush tool or add another layer between the texture and low frequency (color) to color those red areas a little. Just blurring isnt going to cut it and will make the image look terrible.
I wonder how much this professional skin retouching tutorial costs... Must be a 100$ or more...These are usually not cheap.. Wait a minute...its for FREE THANK YOU IRENE
I followed all the instruction on your video but when I was going over the dark part to make the dark disappear, there’s nothing happened to any layer of dodge and burn. What did I do wrong? 🥲 I’m so new to this btw.

I can’t Thank You Enough for this tutorial! Everything just became so clear! Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
Is the first set of layers you created similar to frequency separation?
Much respect, new sub.
Spot on
This video is great
I love this, thanks

Very useful, yes, however not as flexible as with curves, plus if you mess up, it’s harder to come back x
Do you use just regular soft brush or with pen pressure/transfer?Thanks a lot
Pen pressure brush. As i am quite skilled and saves me lots of time changing my flow all the time. For beginners I definitely recommend no pressure brush with 1% flow and build up from there.

Great as always! Would you mind sharing some of your lighting in a future video?
I will definitely share more behind the scenes from shootings in future ☺️

You don’t apply to background. You brush on top of the mask created with curves adjustment layer.
Muito bom, fiz minhas actions no passo a passo.

@@VeraChange Hi and thank you for answering my question. How about applying the same adjustment layer (inverted and painted on) to multiple images?
one question cuz I have been doing this action for a minute. Do I have to invert the hue and constant the curve we do on the last group?
No, tjhose are helping layers.
Do I have add the helping layers too
where can I get action from?
you have to make it yourself she says, it isn't that hard tho. dodging and burning is manual work, so the action is just to set up curves layers with a mask. and that part is quick enough where you dont really need an action; but i guess the minute you save adds up.
Great tutorial. Do you use skin smoothing after D&B or do you not use it at all?
Nothing, just Dodge and Burn ☺️

this did help a lot btw so thank you, but i am starting out and models are not so flawless

The setting of your layers are normal or luminosity?
