  • I heard on the radio this morning that July 2023 was recorded as the hottest month on record. Some places reaching over 115F for days on end. I know this is an off grid channel, but I felt this product was worth reviewing. I didn't have much hope, but it worked surprising well!

    Several of the roofers use this exact model around here. They keep dozens of the ice bags in the truck12 volt freezer. The ground man tosses the bags up to the roofing crew as needed. Then the roofers change the ice bags for each other as needed. They also wear big umbrella hats. They say it's a game changer. They work longer, faster and make more money. And on some days, they work in heat that would keep them off the job if they didn't have these vest. They say the vest are too short at the waste and to narrow at the top of the shoulders.

      Thanks for sharing! The vest is "one size fits most". Great example of real world use.

    I just got mine in the mail today and let me say WOW! I am very impressed! I just put a frozen bottle of water in the water pouch and it worked great! I Will be using it for hiking. I hope this thing has some longevity because it is awesome! I have to say though, it is kind of small. If you are over 200 this might not be for you.

    • @OffGridBasement

      It definitely is a "one size fits most". I'm glad it works well for you!

    keep thinking of something a bit higher tech where a pump and resvoir is in a backpack and you wear various garment options that connect viat tubes and quick disconnect connectors then an ecu monitors your regions presets and sends coolant where its specified to. I envision a helmet as one module then a vest and perhaps shorts for the lower regions. Perhaps a gallon of super chilled (some of it frozen even?) coolant might last a few hours set a ultra comfortable or else even much longer if it is only helping keep cool enough to survive a "mission" (which lol could be a desert hike or a bike or motorcycle ride etc) I am so disappointed there are not a bunch of such systems available by now! Heat can absolutely make doing loads of activities not even worth doing! Maybe automotive AC is an example of how long it takes for something to catch on. When I was a kid ONLY seriously expensive trim level cars had A/C so even in hot places that average car buyer went without....fast forward several decades and now virtually EVERY car and truck have A/C...as well as power windows etc which also were an expensive luxury for soooo long! Point being I HOPE we are about to see an explosion of personal cooling systems becoming both highly functional and reasonably priced....and not just chilled water either!

    That vest really cooled you down, judging from the thermal camera. I'm assuming it's not something you wear continually but put on for a while, then take off? Will it cool down fast if it's left outside or in a vehicle? Definitely a plus for those working outdoors.

    • @OffGridBasement
      @OffGridBasement  Год назад +1

      It does cool down quickly. I think it would be perfect for if you're really hot and need to cool down fast. I'm guessing the ice will melt in about an hour. Thanks for the comment.

    Wonder how long it will run on that charger and if it will stay cool the whole time. Thanks for sharing 🤙🏾

      I really believe it's for a quick cool off. The vest probably only stays cool for about an hour. Thanks for the comment.

      I get about 1 hour from each ice pack I keep a bunch ready, (I made several extra with a "seal-a-meal) and my power pack lasts about 6-7 hours

      You can use any small portable phone charging battery bank found on Amazon. It just needs a USB-A port. This is the standard USB port.

    • @OffGridBasement

      I use it while I mow in the summer and it lasts around 2 hours no problem. I would say the ice pack lasts 4 hours and the battery 8 hours.

    Do you have a direct link? The one provided just shows a lot of cabin filters for cars and since there is no option to select English I have no idea how to search or navigate it to find it.

    This is really cool. The only problem with your construction worker example .....is that most construction workers I know don't work around a freezer 😂. And even if they did, they would probably have to swap the ice pack every 20 mins when it's really hot outside lol. This is really cool, and useful in certain situations (such as mowing your lawn in extreme heat). But for construction workers, they might be better off with a cooling towel and a portable waist fan over something like this lol. Like I said though, there are definitely situations where this would come in handy. Like at a kids baseball game when it's really hot, or at a short festival/fair, or when outside mowing the lawn, etc. But for people working outside 8 hrs a day and not anywhere near a freezer all day, should probably find something different lol.

      @OffGridBasement  2 месяца назад +1

      You're right. Construction worker was probably the worst example! Being outside for an hour at a time would make a lot more sense in this situation. :-) Thanks for the comment!
