The funny thing is, I’m sure if someone who doesn’t understand music watches this, they’ll probably think this wasn’t all nonsense. I remember listening to people talk about music when I was younger and it all sounded like gibberish 😂
For whatever reason, even though I immediately understood the premise of the joke, I watched the first minute of the video not noticing that the chords weren't the ones that Jacob actually played...
I'm going to send you my pulmonologist's, surgeon's and anesthesiologist's bills for the double lung replacement I needed after wheezing through this video.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Jacob Collier. The harmonies are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical music theory most of the notes will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Jacobs's use of microtonality, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these intervals, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Jacob Collier truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Jacob's signature chord: C#7#9b13+5+7%$69, which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Jacob Collier's genius wit unfolds itself on their youtube screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Jacob Collier tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎
brillaint.. I've been wanting to figure this out for decades and it's all clear now.. this video does need to come with a no hot drinks warning though...
This ruined my day
ye.
This made my bed
I kind of loved every second of it
@@seamusodwyer2426two days of laugh for me if it's not three
æăåªąäãâáāપªoooöööww!!!
All major chords are C, and all minor chords are bad. Yeah that’s about right
Straight from the man himself
Why am I crying laughing from that line?
Mainstream pop in a nutshell

The funny thing is, I’m sure if someone who doesn’t understand music watches this, they’ll probably think this wasn’t all nonsense. I remember listening to people talk about music when I was younger and it all sounded like gibberish 😂
Sigh at least I can see the comedy here despite not being fluent in the musical language like we’d all like to be. Excellent point
Damn ur right
0:32 “This is C major”
C major: 🔪🔪🔪
C, C, C, C, C, those are the first 5 notes of C major
the piano shredding parts were so well done I don't think 90% of people could tell that wasn't what he was actually playing
With me lying dead on the floor with laughter, I can confirm that everything you need to know about C major is in this video
I would honestly believe that Jacob Collier could take some of that music, put it in a different context, and make it good.
For sure
0:10 i fucking lost it, comedy gold
I almost died with this one. And after just the first 10 seconds of video.
We need more ambitious YTPs of Jacob.
Loving the enthusiasm, but this is a little too humble for a Jacob Collier YTP
I love this so so so much.
"This is C major" _proceeds to play everything but c major_
Learning music theorist here.
This is such a niche subject to YTP, but I love you for doing it.
0:11 gave me the dopamine i needed for the day thanks bro
Lmaoooo glad I could help
Very nice.
me explaining something while i'm nervous
omg i lost it when they sang the triad
One of the best YTP I've ever seen. This video deserves at least 100 times the views it got so far
and even everything you dont need to know about c major. george collier really is impressive
The only piano lesson you ever need
i c it much clearer
Gold
This is THE best YTP on collier
I'm honored 🥹
I'm literally crying with laughter...
About as effective teaching as an unedited Collier video
For whatever reason, even though I immediately understood the premise of the joke, I watched the first minute of the video not noticing that the chords weren't the ones that Jacob actually played...
Laughed so hard, Jacob Collier has to see this !
I'm going to send you my pulmonologist's, surgeon's and anesthesiologist's bills for the double lung replacement I needed after wheezing through this video.
Why did the keys smashing sound like actual jazz chords
I got it C major is C/B#(add8)
🌚🌚
Dbb
I mean… arguably those notes are actually in the key of c on the piano..
the best music theory video of all time
This has got to be the funniest shit I've ever seen. What a perfect YTP
I’m dying. I’m finding this way funnier than I’m sure the creator intended
That last little run "Jacob" "played" was so believable! How on Earth did you sell those wrong notes so well! Maybe you should try free jazz.
my chest hurts the piano dubs are so fucking funny
This is some HIGH effort YTP!
Those piano mashing overdubs are so perfect! Holy crap~ lol
more of these and ur gonna be a huge channel for musical humour lol
Ty sm 🙏 that's the goal haha
Pianos are never animated correctly: Jacob Collier edition
This is real YTP at it's finest
I got my AP Music Theory teacher to show this to his new students because I explained how it helped me so much on the exam
Hahahaha
Why is this so incredibly underrated
this 3am fever dream is taking a turn for the worst
I would pay good money to get an entire course taught in this manner. ROFL
Bro this is actually gold
ᝰ cadences are my favorite type of cadence
I'm middling in music theory, but this got me sides hurting from laughter. Niche, but great comedic sense.
This is the first Jacobs meme that I see
music and YTPs are my favorite things so this is a great video
The sea was angry that day my friend.
I've never heard about 2t:rn,Fe@=L+{b$ cadences nor xtD=29{B_*v) cadences, honestly
You learn something new every day
Terry Riley wants to know your location.
This is the kind of specific humor i want my YT algorithm to recommend lmao this is hilarious
