I'm preparing for my second pregnancy after a very difficult first birth. My water broke on Friday and I delivered Monday afternoon after 12 hours on pitocin with no pain medication. I was in so much pain I was constantly vomiting, begging for them to give me anything, even a Tylenol, hadn't slept the whole three days. Then a few days post partum I had a severe allergic reaction to the uterus contracting medication and was hospitalized for an additional 3 days without my baby. I want another baby so badly but like she says in the video, when I think about my first birth I have a physical reaction, shaking, can't breathe, crying, etc. Therapy isn't available to me where I'm living, but what's been helping me is watching positive birthing videos. When it gets too intense I pause and deep breathe, tell myself that it's going to be ok, it's not happening to me, I'm not in danger. Then I play the video some more and it always ends with a happy healthy mama and baby. It's really been helping me process my experience and see hope for the future.

I'm just wondering why they were not giving you pain medication. That's sounds so terrible to be in so much pain and have no option for relief.

    • @Shammon5

@@bww6798 We live in Japan and it's standard policy in the majority of hospitals and clinics here. A few offer epidurals, but mostly in big cities like Tokyo, and even those are severely restricted in day and time so even if you sign up for one if you go into labor outside of the time frame there will be no one there to give it to you. Medical care here is top notch and after birth care is phenomenal, but they have rather archaic practices when it comes to pain relief.

My first delivery was very traumatic, and I used to cry every time I told the story. It felt like things were happening “to me,” like I had no control over my birth experience. I remember being scared, alone, and suffering through the pain. I was determined to have a totally different experience the second time around. I gave birth 2 weeks ago. This time I hired a doula and had a beautiful (still painful) and euphoric labor and delivery. I felt totally in control this time. For any moms wanting to take back control, I highly recommend hiring a doula!

Thank you for suggesting this! I thought about hiring a doula for my birth but decided it was too expensive. Man I wish I had. It’s been over a year and even though we really want to have two kids, I still cannot bring myself to think about pregnancy or birth again. I get so stressed out anytime I consider it. Maybe a doula would help me feel like I have more control in the situation.

This was really informative, thank you for an amazing interview! It really reminded me of Jessica Kent and her prison birth experience. There is ~60,000 people in prison who give birth every year in the US and they really are set up to fail and have lasting trauma from the way the system treats them.

Thank you for this. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and an HG (hyperemesis gravidarium) survivor. I had HG for the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy. I can't even talk about my experience with HG without shutting down. My body reacts horribly to certain things now because of the trauma I faced during my experience with HG. The consistent all day and all night vomiting was so excruciating, the feeling of death that came with starvation and dehydration made me suicidal. Just the sound of the door opening and closing induced an awful vomiting episode. thats not even half of the half of it. i now cant see certain foods, drinks or smell certain smells without shutting down and remembering how violent and exhausting my vomiting episodes were and just overall how awful i felt. even certain tv shows that my boyfriend would have playing downstairs trigger me back to those awful memories. I didn't want to abort my angel but I also didn't want to live anymore. I truly have no idea how i got through it but boy do i feel like a fucking badass now that its over. i plan on going natural and if im able to do that as well then boyyyyy im telling you wont nobody ever be able to tell me NOTHING haha!! As a woman myself I found a new appreciation for our bodies and our resilience. I respect myself so much more due to the trauma i experienced with HG.

Wow. This was an incredibly enlightening video! Thank you so much for making it! I am due ANY moment, lol, and I've had some (mild) trauma during my first labor - and this has helped me see why I am getting so nervous now - when I've been so chill about this pregnancy - all up until these past 2 weeks. It makes sense now and I have a plan for moving forward.

I just want to start by saying I love your videos! I was wondering if you could talk about giving birth vaginally with a preexisting moderate Pelvic Organ Prolapse of the uterus or bladder? What positions might be best in labor, and things that could help it from worsening, etc. Pregnant again, everything prolapsed pretty much immediately after birth last time, and there isn't a lot of great information out there on it despite my doctors saying most women have some form of a prolapse, and go on to deliver/recover vaginally again just fine. Thank you so much ❤

I’m 25 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. My first labor was traumatic. I pushed for 3 hours and then we decided to do vacuum assisted birth which resulted in birth injuries. I suffered from a fractured tailbone and separated pelvis. So now, I’m frightened to give birth. I would like to give birth vaginally again but I’m scared. So I’m torn between trying natural again or just going for a C-section. Today I’m meeting with a midwife. I’m seeing my chiropractor again, because I’m experiencing terrible lower back pain. I’m doing stretches and kegels twice per day, and walking a mile a day too. I’m literally trying everything I can think of to prep my body for this birth. I just don’t think anything will make me calm however :(

I wish I could hug you.. I also had a vacuum assisted birth resulting in birth injury. You are not alone I hope your 2nd birth is much much better, continue to talk to your midwife and medical team, you are so much stronger than you know. Praying for you mama!

I am almost 6 weeks postpartum. I was induced at 39 weeks because my doctor thought I could have preeclampSia. labor was long and hard. Nurse said I was 10cm I was really 7cm. Pushed at 7 cm for four hours. Baby was In distressed heart rate would drop when I would push. My b/p was up to 181/101. Nurse wasn’t also managing my epidural. Ended up having a emergency C-section because baby wouldn’t past my public bone. My baby wasn’t breathing and put on life support when she was born.

Loved this so much! I was wondering, I had two doulas (they were also trained midwives, and we're operating in both spheres) in my first birth and they were both very unhelpful. They bailed on me when we went to the hospital (it was a planned home birth that didn't work out), and my partner felt so excluded by them during the entire labor process. So, I'm wanting a VBAC in this second labor (Dec 2022) and I hear that it is very good to have a doula especially in a VBAC, but I'm just a little gunshy. I'm in Ecuador, so it's hard for me to find doulas that I click with. Any suggestions or ideas?

Is there a sure way to prevent trauma even in what would be objectively considered a very “traumatic” experience?
