In this video I tell you how to fix for your TCL 55 inch TV that has sound but no picture. The problem is the back lights have gone out probably just one that is causing it to short and kind of like your old Christmas lights effects them all. You'll have to replace the led strips inside the TV. You'll have to open up the TV and take the display out to access behind the display. It's not that hard of a fix but you will need to be super careful and not crack the display while doing this fix. After the new led lights are installed your TV will be back working 100%. Thank you for your time.

After watching this i decided to buy a new tv lol
Me too, and it's killing me to send another item to the dump.
😂
@@bigred9428 exactly, the mechanical waste would not be so bad if things worked like they're supposed to
I’m going to try it. It looks fun.
I’m going to try it. It looks fun. And great video by the way thank you.
JESUS....how about out through a window...preferably on the 15th floor or up and NEVER buying a TCL again...
I watched this video and decided to just buy a new tv.
Facts
Me too much work for a 400 dollar tv
😂😂😂 exactly
Imagine how good life would be if they just installed a removable backdoor so you could take out the backlight without disassembling the entire damn tv. Thanks for the video
Absolutely! Maybe if Europe starts making laws for easier tv repair, the manufacturers would make them all like that. I'm wondering, though, if dust would get in the tv.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO REMOVE THE ADHESIVE FROM THE DISPLAY!!!!! the part of the tv that is glued to the display(that runs along the top edge) is designed to be removed and reinstalled with the tv. Its just a matter of a few clips on the top of the tv that need to be first removed and then the whole display comes right off without any fuss. I did the job last night and can confirm I would have broken it if I didn't realize this. If there are any questions about this, reply and I can go more into depth about it.!
Can you go in more depth please? So i don't have to remove the 2 panels separately?
@@MrGandostar yeah so on the top side of the tv after youve removed the bezel there are little clips that you must use a flathead screwdriver to release. You will see little cutouts with what looks like black bars(about 1/4 inch long) in them. Just push those in with a flat head util they pop. Once they are all popped the panel will come out with no effort. If it's not coming out super easily, stop! Then reevaluate. I had two broken tvs that I used parts from to make one working tv, and before I discover these clips, I actually cracked and already broken display. It doesnt take much force at all.
@@masonphillips6605 thank you for the info!
Do the 3 sheets stay attached to the screen when you remove it the way you’re describing?
I was wondering about this because the screen and plastic comes off so easy, but I have yet to successfully remove the adhesive. Thanks for confirming.
I am fighting sleep watching this tutorial. I find it very interesting. Knowing I will not be able to actually do this myself.
Who here will never ever buy another TCL that won't make it past 3 years but are so glad the bought a TCL they could repair for $30??
Mine lasted 7 years
Mines going on 6 years
Mine lasted 3-4
Mine lasted for 5 years and was half the price of most tvs and TCL isn't the only company that has this problem. Ive had a Samsung and LG tv backlights go out. It's a common thing with all tvs. Backlight replacement is also only a $30 dollar fix if you do it yourself
Mine has lasted 3 and a half years but it just went out and thats why im here. I did watch the complete video amd thats a lot of work to fix it wheb they only cost $278 for a new one. Mine is the 65 inch and it is $378. I may fix mine in the future but as of right now it will go into a closet and i will just buy a new one. I will fix it and replace my 50 inch that I'm using in my game room. Then I'll have the 50 inch to fall back on if and when the next one goes out.
For anyone who is watching this video and are working on repairing a TCL 50S425 or Similar.
Things I won't recommend doing to make the repair so much easier.
• DO NOT TAKE OFF ADHESIVE! When you're on that step of getting ready to take off the screen look underneath the bezel area on all 4 sides there should be clips that you can pry off. Pry off all 4 sides. Use the suctions and lift off the screen.
• When you lift off the screen make sure your hands are clean and I wouldn't recommend putting tape on the corners to hold the three sheets as the video recommended, the tape leaves residual on the sheets.
• I replaced my Backlights without pulling off the white paper sheet. What I did was carefully cut around and In between which made it easier and less work.
• After the repair of backlights and sheets are back in, make sure the screen is aligned directly in the middle. Mine was a little off to left side more than right which caused not so good alignment to input the screws in the left side but I didn't mind because it was still stuck in there without the screws.
• What I also recommend doing is organize your screws. What I did is put them in the Air Pillows I had left over from the packaging of Backlights. They are many screws to take off and you can easily lose some since they are so small.
Overall this took me about 4 hours to do? Personally for me the repair wasn't too bad it's just a process of staying organized, careful, and patient.
You can either buy the LED Lights from the website called
jimmyshop - No Free Shipping
OR
Their ebay marketplace which is free shipping.
Do you have a part number??
Don't the cuts show through?
I watch the video about 5 times and decided to try and fix my TCL 55 inch everything went like the tutorial with some differences that didn't pose a problem until I tried to separate the top of the screen from the 2 sided tape. This TV must be a later version because it was really stuck. The screen cracked and the crack traveled across most of the screen. After that I noticed how the top plastic strip it was stuck to could have been released and removed with the screen. The sides and bottom of the screen released easily but the top would not. Hope this helps prevent someone from cracking their screen
I;m not doing all that~ I'm just going to get a new one!
Wow, what a pain in the ass!! Great video after watching this, I have no intention of even attempting this. Thanks, I will just trash my TCL and won't buy another one.
I said the same thing 🤣! Very much appreciate the work done for this video though.
I really wish I had my husband watch so I would know how difficult this would be BEFORE buying the LED parts. Not really sure what will happen now😳

@@melyssap477 Update?
@@nightsonrepeat336 not fixed just yet but that’s because of time. It’s a complicated process (to me anyway) so I’m really hoping it works. I bought the same parts off Amazon from the link listed so I will let you know🥺🙏🏻💵
This is a great guide. Few corrections:
1) Tape the dangling circuit boards (the ones that hang by ribbon) to the top of the screen. This will not damage them and will prevent you from damagnig them when lifting off the screen.
2) As others said do not remove the adhesive on the top, just unclip the top frame.. Use a flat head and push up on the clips while using a suction cup to gently lift the screen (to give you some leverage).
3) After you remove the glass screen, the three filters need to be removed. If possible, gloves to avoid smudging these, as it's very hard to clean them.
4) Also would recommend just cutting the paper around the LEDs instead of trying to peel off the whole thing. I can confirm this does not impact use at all.
Where did you find the LED lights? I see some on Amazon but not sure if I have to cut them? Can I cut them? I see the strips of lights but still not sure or comfortable with getting them not knowing everything.
@@Learning_new_things_70no you don’t cut the new LED lights. You cut the white plastic cover on the tv.. to be able to remove the previous LED lights
Thanks for your input
This tutorial was exactly what I needed. It was very clear. I followed it step for step and fixed my tv. Thank you so much.
This was a great video. Comments are correct. You do not need to use the credit card method. Just separate the bracket that holds the screen. You can cut the paper that surrounds the leds. Just make sure to tape them so they don’t fall out place when it’s all together. Ask me how I know. Otherwise great video. Great comments. Thank you.
Could you please explain how you know which LED strips to order/ where you ordered them from?
My thoughts exactly, I was looking for those parts on the description and they are not there.
I ordered these and they worked well

@@aleschwaida I'm looking into doing this but mine has no backlight at all. Any advice?
YOU DONT NEED TO REMOVE THE ADHESIVE ON THE SCREEN.. Just remove the clips on top and the screen will pop out.
I'm not doing that. Those cheap LED's aren't worth the effort. I took my Chinese TCL out in the back yard and chopped it up with a sledge hammer and sent it to the land fill. I don't have time to screw with junk !
My Daddy shot his a few times. 😂
He explained everything very well, started to watch a different video and would have broke my tv before I ever got it apart if I hadn't found this one. My husband thought I was nuts at first but once I had it down to the screen he stepped in to help and other than the one top corner cracked a little it (he wasn't kidding when he said be gentle) works better than before, leds were larger then what was in it but the picture is brighter which is good. I've never commented on a video before but our tv would have been in the trash if it wasn't for this. The 30 bucks for the led strips and 6 bucks for suction cups was much better then 550 for a new 55" TCL tv.
Ok I am not doing all this I’m just gonna buy a new tv 😂
I’m so bummed. Great video, I followed every little step. I bought suction cops as well. Everything went exactly to plan. I tried to be super careful and gentle. The tv turned right on...and there’s a small crack in the corner of the screen. Ugh. Not your fault. Thanks though
I screwed mine up too. Everyone should avoid trying to insert the credit card on top of the screen
Instead just remove the top 'filter chassis' black piece with the lcd screen. And leave it stuck to the lcd screen. I wish he wouldn't teach us that. Its much easier just to leave it on and take it apart together. Plus you dont risk runinig the TV
I broke mine too and didn’t even use a credit card. I used a very thin plastic tool designed for opening small screens. This repair is not as easy as it looks on RUclips.
LEDs worked but I used the credit card and I think that broke my screen. Turned it on and cracks all over.
I almost never comment on videos. This was a fantastic tutorial and by following every step I was able to fix my TCL 55S405 for $50 in parts & tools. Great video and thorough explainations. Thank you for saving me $300!
Where did you get the led strips?
This was a great video up until the part where he did not show how he put in the LEDs. That's the actual repair. I am greatful, though, that he showed us how to take the tv apart. So many videos skip that part.
Too much work just buy a new tv that's what I did.
I'm a auto mechanic that rebuild a transmission and engine on the side of the road. I'm a self taught welder that can give a Tulsa trained welder a run for his money. Im also a trained HVAC technician, carpenter, and heavy equipment operator. But the finesse on pulling the screen off is no joke 🤣. All I can say is read the comments before proceeding with this part other than that 40 for a 600 tv fix is a win in my book. Props to this man he earned my subscription
Thank you for this video very informative I attempted to change out the LEDs but my screen was very glued down and I cracked it as I attempted to remove it very carefully with a credit card I guess I’ll return the LEDs to Amazon won’t be needing them now. 🤦🏻♂️
Oh, where do you get the LED replacement strips ???
Mine does this too, but a factory reset will fix the problem. Do you have any idea what this is? I don't want to replace hardware when a factory reset will fix it. I'm having to reset it every other week and I'm getting really tired of it. It's only 4 years old.
I'm definitely not doing all that. Good video though
Anybody have a link for the led light strip?
Thank you so much! You saved me so much money, and the learning experience was worth the journey in itself. Subscribed!
Thanks for great video. I just did a 4 year old TCL 55S423. I did it just to see if I do it. TV wasn’t that expensive to begin with and easily replaceable but I thought it looked fine for my use and why contribute to more land fill if I could fix for under $50.
I bought the light from Amazon but was concerned that there were only 4 strips for just two rows of LEDs. Once I got it apart this indeed the case. I tried to peel back that base but it was stack down. So I just cut out the strips which worked great. They were not screwed down but had a bit of adhesive the new lights had tape applied.
I was most concerned about any adhesive holding the LCD panel to the frame but as it it turns out the panel sat in the frame no adhesive at all and just lifted right out.
One big tip get a magnetic Phillips screwdriver.
You never respond when people ask where to get the led lights.......
Order it from Amazon or EBay I believe it's around 30 Buck's I'm about to order mine
Maybe the spare part costs 30 bucks but when your labor time is 100+ worth, getting a new one is a must. And I'd already wasted one hour watching these videos.
Just had a 50" tcl go out a few days ago. Went a bought a new tv. But I think I'm gonna try this. Definitely same issue. I get sound from it. Just no picture. Thanks for the vid man!
Should be Times man of the year, made fixing my TV a fun afternoon project.
If you're a risk taker you can use clear packing tape to make handles for lifting the panel, instead of using suction cups.
This video was great, exactly to the point and no fluff until I went to take the actual screen out. Following the credit card method for the adhesive. Unfortunately, going slowly, it still broke the screen. And come to find out, the screen didn’t need to come off the top rail. Almost had it.
Thanks for commenting. Sucks that it broke on you but I appreciate you letting us know. I'm about to try this myself and plan on skipping the adhesive part to hopefully not break my own screen.
Between the video tutorial and very helpful tips/clarifications in the comments, I was able to knock this repair out pretty quickly even though I was nervous. Thank you!!!
How long did it take you?
After watching this video I cracked my screen 😭
I ended up buying a 65 inch Samsung 4K 60HZ for 400$ at best buy so it was worth the break
Very informative. However, the symptoms produced CAN be a bad T-Con. It's sort of a crap shoot unless you have the patience to test the LEDs individually or the T-Con component my component. I'm a lousy craps player and went with the LEDs and replaced them only find out it was the T-Con. The T-Con is even an easier fix. Cost estimate from the "authorized repair facility"? LEDs: $265 (plus tax). T-Con: $280. My cost? LEDs: $25 T-Con: $28
Fabulous! You saved me! This was so easy to follow, I was able to fix my TV that was only 2 years old! Thanks a billion
Tried this, every piece of plastic crumbles when you try to do anything.
Every connector disintegrated as soon as i tried to unlatch the cables. They litteraly melt soon as you touch them and turn to dust. Tv is 5 months old. Never seen anything like this. What a pos.
Repaired my 55” TCL yesterday following this video. It took me about 3 hours just going slowly not to make any mistakes… worked perfectly. Bought the lights and two suction cups on Amazon, fixed my tv for $42. Thank you!!!
Did you buy the LED lights according to the model number of your tv? I am having a hard time to find the lights for my tv. Thanks!😀

Overall, this is a pretty good video. It would have been nice had he not kept the camera in a fixed position, and brought it down to show what he was doing more clearly, especially when removing the bezel. I was following this video pretty closely I thought, and when removing the bezel, I found out too late that the bezel was attached to that plastic frame, and I could have just removed the plastic frame. (Initially, I thought I had to remove the bezel from the frame). I might have missed him saying this, but now my bezel is ruined, because I tried to remove it from the plastic frame, and the TV is going in the trash. In all fairness, I did see a lot of commentors say this before I started, but I thought I could succeed at this repair. And this of course is my fault, not anyone else's. My advice: simply buy a new TV. They are made way to cheaply to make repairs like this worthwhile for the most part. You may get lucky in this kind of repair, and if you do, more power to you! I will now be looking at new TV ratings...
Screw this... I'm
Just buying another TV
Funny how people will spend $900-$1,400 on a cell phone and not use a case and think nothing of breaking it.
But a $200 tv stops working and they freak out and have to fix it.
I just wanted to see if it was any easier than a computer monitor.
I recently attempted to diagnose and repair a couple computer monitors.
One I did, AOC with samsung panel, was SO thin, it shattered once the side panel clip came off.
The others seemed plausible to repair.
After my bad experience with the Samsung panel.
I think I am going to pass.
I paid $148 for the tv 3 years ago.
I am going to get a larger Vizio for $220.
The idea of paying $30+ and not being 100% sure that will fix it and having to wait a week +.
My wife and children are not going to wait. I will get a new tv and then attempt to fix it later.
I have two identical TCL 55S446. TV1 has many, many dead pixels and will be the donor, other one (TV2) that I want to fix has screen uniformity issues. TV2 part of the screen is cloudy looking or is darker than the rest on one side. Is this due to the white sheets show in the video (I think it's called the defuser sheets). Would transplanting the white sheets from TV1 to TV2 fix the screen uniformity issues such as the cloudy looking picture and darkness issues on one side of the screen?
I did this repair about 2 months ago. Worked very well. Thanks so much!
well, there goes my confidence... what was I thinking that I could do that.... 🙄
How do I know which backlights to buy I have a tcl 55S403 and the service number is 55S403TCAA
This guy is just making a long video for the algorithm, and taking a hundred steps to remove a fkn TV cover....go watch any other video
I did all the steps perfectly but when I plugged it in to test, it did not work. I tested it ahead of time and knew this was the correct issue so I’m stumped. Has this happened to anyone else?
Me too :(. Wish I just threw it in the trash instead of going through all this and not having t wrk
Me too
it occurs to me that , why are we replacing LED lights on a TV? Isn't the point of the LEDs supposed to be that if one goes out, all the other ones are still working, so that it should be decades before we have to replace LED lights? maybe it's different on TVs where they are designed to go out at the same time.
but yet, many comments are related to, my perfectly working TV is just showing a dark screen, so I came here to see how to replace the LED lights, because everything else on the TV still works, just not this part that is supposed to last for decades.
:/ My screen is half broken after I pushed in the corners too hard.
If i didn't do that, the tv would've worked perfectly. Thanks for the video! Thank you
Hahaha wow you link a dji mavic your Samsung phone and all this other garbage but not the actual LED’s themselves?
What a shit-show. I did exactly as instructed, but the adhesive along the top of the screen was SO WEL STUCK that the entire screen cracked the second the tape finally released. Pouring more good money after bad. Story of my life.
Fortunately, I have a perfectly good set of led strips (with nothing to put them in)
List them on eBay, I'm sure someone will need them. :)
I decided to first see if I could take the TV apart and if successful then order the LED strips. Unfortunately I broke the screen when trying when trying to remove the adhesive from the top right corner. As others have mentioned it would have been easier to remove that black frame and keep everything intact.
Be very very careful with the display and the suction cups. I broke the screen 😔
I’ve had mine since 2018 didn’t stop working until end of 23
Great video,
Where exactly did you buy those back leds from ? Can you please share that information?
Nope, id rather go spend $250 and just buy it again. not worth the time and work...im out
If I was ten again, I could do this. I was great at fiddly little things. Skip ahead 50 years, and, no way am I doing this.
My TCL went black right before the Super Bowl. Finally decided today to replace the LED strips instead of buying a new TV. Thanks to your video I only spent $40 instead of $500. Thank you for the amazing instructions!
This man has the patience of Job!!!
Can't find replacement lcds for TCL 75R615. :-(
Did y'all just see that orb fly behind him at 8:02 that was a spirit....wow 😮
Don't waste your time and money if your just going to try and fix the LEDs. I had the same symptoms and this didn't fix anything. Just throw it away and buy a new one.
Well made tutorial. However if this is the fix, at this point you should just buy another tv. seriously.
remember when tvs lasted forever ?i still got my tv vcr combo for 25 years never messed up. i wouldnt even be mad it it did cause thts long time for no issues. lets ditch led bs go back to the 90s
So i order rhe kit but only have 2 small and 2 large LED i see your have More thag that , do you have to order 2 sets?
I have sound, however the screen is black and there's a line running across the bottom of the screen when it powers back on.
Too bad I can’t just pay you to fix my TCL 43” Series 5, lol. An LED light went out after owning for 14 months, no warranty. I really liked my tv, but now I’m probably changing tv brands. Great video though!
Same! 3 months short on warranty, I will always hate tcl for this and it’ll become my life mission to screw with them :)
I bought a tcl back in 2017 still going strong
Man i did 5 hours and cracked the screen at the last 😫 part 😐 😅 couldve shown how you did it. :(
Great tutorial. I would like to stress the importance of being careful with the screen. I got a little impatient toward the end and cracked the corner fitting it back in. But, after about a day I hardly see it and the kids have yet to notice. Ha ha ha.
So from what I'm seeing in the comment section is don't use a credit card just pop out the clips to avoid breaking your screen got it
my tcl turns on, shows the logo and the display turns off.. what could that be?
Is there a link for the led light stripes?
So if you not getting anything on the screen its the LED lights that have to be changed?
I decided to buy a new TV after watching this video. 😂
My Toshiba just went out had it since 2012.
How many LED lights do you need
IF ONE LED LIGHT STRIP GOES OUT...DO THEY ALL GO OUT...????
Damn , I don’t have the patience. I’m too old. I’ll go get another tv.
Fix it or buy a new one. What's the cost to replace l e d 's
I just got a question. I have sound and a black screen. But when you first turn it on the tcl logo comes on then it goes black. Just real quick flashes tcl then goes black but can hear trying to click through apps. Do you still think that is my back lights? Or could it be something else?
Did you fix your TV? Mine does what you said - logo comes up for fraction of a second, then goes dark, and you can read screen with flashlight. Trying to figure out if bad LEDs or if it is one of the boards instead. Thank you!
My tv only half the screen is showing the picture
So no capacitor replacement... Pretty sure you should check those on the PSU board first.
Just found one last night, started searching and found rhe first vid you did. I instantly recognized your voice, i watched many vids from your diving vids ✌️
Helped me a lot. Helped me realize I'd be an idiot to even attempt this lol
Does anyone have the link to purchase the LED light strip? Part number??? Anything??
just to find out it may not even be this problem maybe better to buy new tv
What model of TCL ?
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Thanks for explaining it in great detail. After I replaced the LEDs, I tested it and it was OK before putting it back together. However, after assembly, the TV screen remained black except when I shined a light onto it; then there was no longer any image. There was still sound. I wondered if this was due to cable connection issues. Do you have any advice? (Edit): Solved. The two flat cables have to line up perfectly, as they affect the clock signals controlling two halves of screen video.
2 years later, still $50 in parts. I've had way too many financial burdens this year to shell out $500, so thank you for this well put together video. I hope I am as successful as you🤞
