Man, just the entire sequence from 3:04 - 3:38 struck me so hard (maybe cuz im watching this at 2am but still). I think Xiao has always felt like he needs to be useful, he needs to DO something in order to feel like he's worth anything in life. He's always done the one thing he's been surrounded by for centuries---he fights and fights and he suppresses whatever pain or sadness or love he feels inside. And now that the war is over and there's really no more fighting to be done, he's almost a bit lost...he doesn't know how to express what he's feeling, or maybe he doesn't quite know entirely what he's feeling. Man, just the entire sequence from 3:04 - 3:38 struck me so hard (maybe cuz im watching this at 2am but still). I think Xiao has always felt like he needs to be useful, he needs to DO something in order to feel like he's worth anything in life. He's always done the one thing he's been surrounded by for centuries---he fights and fights and he suppresses whatever pain or sadness or love he feels inside. And now that the war is over and there's really no more fighting to be done, he's almost a bit lost...he doesn't know how to express what he's feeling, or maybe he doesn't quite know entirely what he's feeling.
But here, he chooses to embrace those complex emotions anyway---through the melody and dance of this song. And he finds himself looking towards Traveller, looking towards the people of Liyue, and looking towards Zhongli, the one who gave his life meaning at the start of it all. To Xiao, they are the ones who pull him towards the light, who remind him that of the soul that breathes inside him.
