Very nice Ed. Great save. I recieved my second award certificate from the AOS a few days ago. 😇 I have a few hummingbirds that have been hanging out on my patio lately. They’re beautiful Anna’s variety.
I love your videos Ed. You make me feel calm like everything will be fine. I have some dragons blood. I’m assuming I use it like cinnamon. Can’t wait to see your blooms.
Hello Wendy and thankyou for the kind words. The Dragons Blood ( Sangre de Grands ) can be used like you use cinnamon and it will stop all rot and bacterial infections as soon as it is applied. I try not to pamper my orchids and to go in the" why's and wherefores" just try to keep it as simple as possible. Take care. Ed.
Hi Ed, your patience and care have been rewarded. This genus was knew to me but it is a real interesting coincidence as I heard of it three times today, two of them with beautiful orange and yellow flowers. Hope yours will bloom soon for you.
Rossioglossum is definitely something different from you. Not many people post about this genus PERIOD. I LOVE the flowers. I know of one vendor in Canada that offers these but I don't know enough about them to give them a try. They should do well here but I've run out of space at the moment. If you can manage to "breed" disease out of a plant then that's great. I think they have to have a good root system to cope and to put up a fight. I imagine that plants in nature have evolved defense mechanisms against disease and pests. So it should be the same for those in our collections if given the chance.
Hi. If you are very happy with the condition of your plants then be wary of adding more unless you can separate them from the collection. I grew the disease out of the plant over a period of about 3 or 4 years..... I must try and keep a record of things which I haven't done for years!!! Ed
Nice repot Ed, look forward to seeing it bloom. I’ve checked out the dragons blood but it’s very expensive. I’d like some of your sage advice please. I have an Angreacum eberneum which is not doing so well. It’s looks very dehydrated. I don’t have much experience with this genus. I pulled it out of its pot, cut off the 2 bottom leaves and soaked it in Seasol with a little calcium nitrate overnight. I haven’t checked it yet as it’s only 5 am and I’m not up yet. I guess I have been remiss with the watering.
Hi Lynn. I am also guilty of not paying much attention to these plants and they do look dehydrated at times. They are a very hardy plant and require to almost dry out between waterings.... which mine do for a few days. They like warmth and light that is not too bright. They require regular feeding but don't feed when the roots are completely dry.... the roots could suffer. Don't pamper them just let them get on with it and never ,ever repot them.....they hate root disturbance and it can put there development back for a few years. Ed.
Ed, I have been thinking of changing to Orchiata Bark so I thought if you have time you could tell me what you think of this bark or also what kind of bark do you use with your orchids. Any help would be greatly appreciated ..Pat
Good evening Pat. There are lots of different barks out there and it all depends on your location as to what's available. In the UK we have orchiata, pinaster bark and Melcourt bark. ....orchiata being the dearest with Melcourt bark the cheapest....pinaster bark is from Portugal. In the States they have Kiwi bark which is untreated orchiata. I have had success with all the UK barks with, in my opinion, orchiata being slightly favoured over the other two...... watering being the most important factor in growing our orchids. Take care. Ed
Hi Ed, I know it is an older video, but I would like to consult you about Rossioglossum. I just got a Ross. Rawdon Jester today, I know it is a cool-growing orchid, but I'd like to know how warm it could cope. How do you grow this genus? Million thx in advance. Besides, I wish you a happy and healthy new year!
Hi B C. I don't have that plant anymore I let it go to one of our auctions....the reason being I am not a fan of brown and yellow together. The plant you have will grow well in intermediate conditions because what they call cool conditions in the tropics, or semi tropics will be rather warm to us so don't worry about the temps you give it. Happy New Year to you.....thank you. Ed.
i have a rossioglossum jester.. rotted the first new growth off but made two new ones who looks good, so i have good hopes to flower this..:) where do you buy that dragonsblood?
Dragons Blood or Sangre de Grande is obtained from the Croton lechleri tree in the Amazon. I was fortunate enough to find a supplier in the UK. If you are in the USA you should have no trouble obtaining it. Ed.
Eds Orchids The label says it is “100 percent pure resin of the croton lechleri tree”. Seems to be used for skin irritations and wounds. Paid $25 Canadian for 50 ml.
Good evening Julie. Growstones are manufactured in the States from calcium carbonate and 2nd hand glass bottles. In my opinion they are a perfect addition to any substrate because they provide extra air space to the medium and also hold a little moisture without raising the pH. Use the product as if you were using large perlite. Ed

Well done Cheryl..what was the award for?? humming birds I love them but living here we don't have them..I'll look up Anna's variety.
Ed.
Eds Orchids the orchid that I got an award for is a Paph fairrieanum cross. Now called Paph Nancy Depauw ‘Athena Marie’
Ed, they would just like to be in your care, I think. Looks much better! Have a real nice day!
Should look a lot better in the next few months Terry. Thanks for the comment and take care of yourself.
Ed.

An interesting plant which is not a difficult plant. Very large flowers for the size of the plant. Take care.

Googled it and it is spectacular orchid from Mexico
They're quite large flowers for the size of the plants but I must admit yellow with brown spots are not one of my favourite colours.
Ed.
I think they were discovered first in Guatemala and afterwards in Mexico.
Ed
I must agree on the out growing
I always like it when someone agrees......and the same if they disagree, Thank you Ynse.

Eds Orchids . Oh dear, I pulled it out of its pot before I soaked it. Guess I’ve set it back even more.
Never heard of this orchid
Look it up Kathy...you might like it.
