I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Believe me; that was hard hard graft for four solid years followed by a searching and remorseless viva voce that ground on for over three hours. To think that this person has 'achieved' the same qualification through cheating and friends in high places boils my blood
I have a PhD in German Literature and feel exactly the same. I also know someone who plagiarized in the dissertation, was discovered a year later, and got the PhD title (along with new job) summarily revoked…not at Harvard, though!
You do know about Ackman's wife, correct?

The hiring of Gay is a telling indicaton that Harvard has turned its back on merit.
How? What about the other prestigious institutions that have had academics in leadership that were also forced to resign for similar if not worst situations? This is not the first time this type of thin has happened but is the first time that leader was a POC...
Im not saying shes doesn't need to resign, but the amount of stink being made about this particular situation is interesting.
I think the whole place is rotten at the top her friends tried to keep this known plagiarist and known self-confessed racist in a position of leadership
You mean when they locked out poor people, women and people of color it was all about merit? Dumb arse!
@@iateyursandwiches "What about the other prestigious institutions...."
Name one, so that we can compare.
And I'll help you out here with your suggestion that the amount of stench is "interesting". No, it's straightforward: This issue with Gray is not so much, as you falsely imply, that she was with good reason forced to resign, but that she was appointed with such piss-poor reasons for THAT happening. What part of robertfeinstein's "The *HIRING* of Gay is a telling indication...." did you find so easy to skip over?
After Harvard lost its lawsuit brought by Asian students, the truth about undergraduate admissions was laid out: over 40% of white students were admitted on other criteria than academic merit. Legacies, major donors, athletes, and "special development" are the reasons. An outstanding athlete or a gifted actor or musician has merit in my eyes, but those are not academic criteria.
I think Harvard sponsors have a moral duty to withdraw funding until Gay is sacked and Harvard’s entire sewer is cleaned out
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cleaning out the sewer ? You expect the higher ups to get rid of themselves? Same thing as politics - the corrupt elite of both parties aren’t going to replace themselves

Claudine Gay did not ruin Harvard. Harvard did that; she is the symptom of a decline that has been occurring for a long time.
What decline are you talking about? Have you seen Harvard and its medical school? It has a 50 billion dollar endowment. It has more people with noble prizes walking through its hall than any country in the world. I am afraid for your mental state of being and your understanding of what the word decline means. Claudine Gay is no different from the last Winston Churchill, Douglas Hogg and host of other upper class mediocrities who got their positions and promotion because of having gone to the right schools, which in Claudine’s case was Philips Exeter Academy an elite boarding school the USA equivalent to Eton College, Westminster School and Charterhouse. Claudine then went on do her Bachelor’s degree at Stanford where she one s number of prizes.

Because of her gender.
Enough blame to go around on this one. 1. Harvard's faculty and board for hiring Gay. Her list of publications was nothing short of lackluster for a university president. 2. Harvard's commitment to DEI and not academic excellence. 3. Harvard's willingness to look the other way to protect Gay from critics and try to use the race and victim cards (overused by now across the US). 4. Gay herself has done huge harm to Harvard----first by plagiarizing and then by refusing to admit that she violated academic honesty codes of conduct. She has shown no remorse over what she did-----and I have a sneaking suspicion she will continue to plagiarize because she has a gaggle of willing defenders who have made her resignation about race and not about academic honesty. 5. Harvard has opened a huge Pandora's box of problems by retaining Gay in a $900,000 faculty position. What message does that send to students? to faculty? What message does that send about the relevance of Harvard's code of academic honesty? Will Harvard now have to accept plagiarism and cheating as acceptable since one of their own faculty members is a plagiarist? More questions will be forthcoming as the media and critics continue to examine Gay's publications and Harvard's actions.

Students at Harvard should start submitting Gay's doctoral thesis for assignments, unaltered and unattributed, just for a laugh.
What a brilliant idea! 😅😅
Too Funny!!
In all fairness, Harvard has ruined itself. This didn't happen overnight.
Twice in applying to doctoral programs, I was told I was the favored candidate, but edicts from the administration were that women were to fill these slots. I had a similar experience when applying for university positions. This occurred in the late 80s and early 90s. Had there been a superior or comparable female candidate, the choice would matter little to those particular schools, programs, and disciplines. But since the edict was to choose a female candidate/PhD, the selectors would go as far down the list as needed to find someone who fit the bill. The reward/punishment system was set up now not to select someone who could advance the reputation of a program or school, or to advance a field of study, but one that would change society. Thirty + years of that process created Claudine Gay. If one were to compare her academic or administrative accomplishments to the entirety of any major university faculty, she would be in the lower 5%. But if the selection criteria is to select a black woman, she fits the bill.
One other comment, black candidates who would be qualified were not evaluated because they were not pushing a DEI/CRT agenda. In my academic and professional career, I have worked with countless formidable black professors and administrators, none of whom would ever play the victim card as did Gray. Any of them would have been a far better choice to lead Harvard than a dishonest researcher who does not understand that there is no context in which advocating genocide on campus is not violating Harvard's policies.
Well said!
Absolutely! People quickly lapse into trite anti-black commentary but there is clearly a greater process in operation. Women are the main beneficiaries of affirmative action policies by a large margin and white women top that list. White women have literally been placed into top positions previously held by men across the board for many years. This is what female entitlement looks like and the narrative is deftly and predictably circumventing this obvious reality.
I'm not in any way justifying her plagiarism/academic fraud or indeed her shockingly irresponsible anti semitic views, but this is definitely a case of the current "girls on top" hegemony coming to roost.

The Massachusetts legislature needs to exercise its undoubted legislative authority to set a charter for ALL tertiary institutions with their principal campus based in Massachusetts. She appears to be a symptom of a much deeper systemic malaise affecting the whole institution of Harvard. She is just a public manifestation of this malaise.
Lethal combination of Marxist politics plus woke DEI double standards AND lower standards got her in AND out of Harvard. He’s right about the need for a push back & it’s not just from the right but also old school moderate liberals.
With me now that when I see a black person in a position of power I automatically think that they were given a leg up by DEI, and not on merit or their ability.
That’s unfortunate because there are qualified African Americans who are not CRT/DEI converts. Kenneth Chenault, former CEO of American Express, and Stanley O’Neal, former head of Merrill Lynch, each had successful runs at the helm of those institutions before DEI/CRT peaked.
That's exactly why DEI ends up as harmful to the very people it claims to help.
I think exactly the same!! DEI is harming real merit.
When beyond doubt a black person is shown to be a liar, a cheater, or to have been involved in a crime, the first thing they do is to show the race card.
Cloudiness Gay is a mediocre academic that got to that position in Harvard because she was black and had hidden well the fact that she was cheater who had plagiarised 50% of her thesis. Gay never learned her lesson. Others are using 'racism' as their talking points and are failing. If I were Harvard College, I'd sue her for slander thereby forcing her in a public venue to prove her 'racism' accusations against Harvard. Failure to do so will, of course, result in Gay paying a steep fine, possibly going to jail and most likely losing her teaching license. But, she opened that door with her written statement siting 'racism' as part of the reason for her dismissal. Time for accountability. Sue her, Harvard, and redeem yourself and set a precedence going forward for everyone else ever slandered via misuse of that word.#
Harvard has been academically obsolete for years, imo.
Sadly, this is not entirely true.
Harvard has enough credibility to have attracted and retained some of the greatest minds in the world amongst its academic staff.
The first problem is that most of these minds are concentrated in either:
~ professional disciplines (such as medicine, engineering and law) where the practising profession demands minimum standards of academic rigour, or
~ the elite sciences (eg., physics, mathematics, biochemistry) where a person with Claudine Gay’s IQ could not hope to achieve a pass mark with all the DEI “helping hands” in the world, including a licence to commit plagiarism unchecked.
The second (and related) problem is that these great minds are busy doing things that nobody else could possibly do. They therefore have no time to engage in the ass-licking and woke pretentiousness which is essential for advancement to the highest tiers of academic administration. And, even if they did have the time, most would find it both morally and personally repugnant.

Au contraire, Spectator readers and viewers are quite likely to have been following this story closely. We're one of the sharpest anti-woke audiences out there.
She got the first punch in when she decided on punishment for Roland Fryer! A black male economist. He was the wrong kind of black!
Peter wood excellently clarified the issues. Thank you.
My nephew is supposed to be going there & I am trying to convince my sister & b inlaw to reconsider. I don’t want them to spend another penny on that place
Cut off federally funded student loans to institutions that practice DEI or prohibit any institution with an endowment over x-billion from charging tuition.
From what I understand, she is still employed by Harvard, which makes her but a toothpick in a lumber yard of problems Harvard needs to address.
She had a lot of help.
I was thinking of doing a Harvard course. I would be too embarrassed to do that now.
Oh well...there's always McDonalds.
Excellent. Thank you Spectator TV and especially Peter Wood.
They chose a person with a meagre body of work, in a field which has issues with academic rigour, with apparent racial animus and who has dubious ethics. Nothing there to get concerned about.
Well said!
Pretty low of her to not admit to the cheating ….. to play the victim when it clearly she is the wrong do-er here, shame on her
She put the seal on “Her Truth”.
SOP😂
This is the best conversation thus far.
She’s not gone she’s still on faculty warning $900k
Clear sighted review. Thanks for putting that together.
Claudine gay through her own malfeasance has made it harder for every black student in America.
How did she make it harder for every black student in America? Every reasonable black student in America knows that this is not about racism and and an attempt to stifled free speech on campus that doesn’t aligned with the Zionist agenda (not Jews but Zionist). Why didn’t you say the same about bill ackman wife who committed far worst plagiarism? Miss gay is a daughter of Haitian immigrants. Work her way up. As a black person in America, you don’t get a phd for free. Her story is one that most young black women can emulate. Go pluck yourself.
Why? It seems like it is your racism, prejudice, and refusal to see black people as individuals that is making it hard for every black student in America.
But you know what, I'm sick of having this argument.
If this is how it must be, I have no issue with assuming every white person see is racist until proven otherwise. Good day.
Not for one if that one has substance, talent, integrity. Just like for any other one, skin color irrelevant…
You must the whole point about skin color.
The woman is a weasel with a good English vocabulary. And likely speaks French(?) … what else?
Calling for the murder of a whole group of people does not need "context" and saying it does is morally corrupt.
This interview is outstanding. Even though Peter Wood kind of looks like a villain from a James Bond movie, he nailed all the important stuff about what's been going down in academia. I've seen it myself while working at a big science publisher in the UK. If regular folks knew how two-faced, cowardly, and biased some of these people are who "produce science" they'd think twice before buying into all the odd ideas floating around.
I mean, you can say that about literally anything lol
So ... how good was Harward's presidential selection process if Dr. Gay's apparent plagiarism was not discovered then? I do not hear anybody discussing this subject.
Heather Mac Donald deserves endless thank you's. Her recent book was painful to read...but I'm ok. Also good to hear a lot of Black Conservatives speaking out. There is more than us then Folks realize. We are the ones that can end all of this madness. RFK 2024.
$900,000 a year?! She should have been sacked.
Claudine Gay is still making $450.00 an hour ($900K/2080). But more importantly, since she will not take any responsibility for obviously plagiarizing her Doctoral Thesis, will Harvard review and strip her of her Ph.D.? At least review it. It seems her Doctoral board missed something.
Harvard wrecked Harvard,Gay is just one prime example of it.
First thumbs up for the Spectacular for some time. Very comprehensive catalog of our mad new world.
This interview captures the essence of the current social and political climate with its discussion of controversial subjects. It provides a platform for nuanced conversation surrounding race, gender, and victimhood, subjects that have become highly divisive in recent times. However, amidst the polarization, it is important to identify constructive solutions that can bridge gaps and promote unity.
Her parents were immigrants from Haiti. They meet while studying in NYC.
Her father worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and her mother was a nurse.
How they found the money for her to attend Phillips Exeter Academy, a private boarding school in Exeter, New Hampshire, DEI scholarships?
The cost in 1985 $11,000, today $63,000.
Her father's reportedly a "Haitian cement company magnate" (i.e., international aid embezzler).
Haitian black magic (masonic, not voodoo : voodoo is for peasants who want to be just luckier peasants).
America has really been a horrible experience for Gay and her family, racism has held them back. The whining is something to behold and needs to stop. What would Gay's life look like if her parents stayed in Haiti?
Gay should go back to Haiti because Haiti needs more woke liberals
@@lavenderbee3611No gratitude. None whatsoever.
Harvard has ruined Harvard. She didn’t come out of nowhere.
Peter Wood is a voice of reason in higher ed.
Of course she has, but the bucket has to stop on the ones who hired a mediocre professor because of race. If excellence is not a measure for Harvard anymore, Harvard is not an excellent university anymore.
DEI isn’t gone.. just re named.
If I was a graduate of Harvard I would sue her for the loss of value of my qualification.
