@@nfinance2 Well if it tastes its not wrong. It is true that the traditional swiss way is only cheese, but in germany this way of raclette is also very popular. Many germans put everything into the pans like cooked potatoes, vegetables or even sweet stuff like e.g. apples or pears.
@@bub2901 I'm German, the dish is popular everywhere however, typically by the time European cuisine reaches America the entire dish has been changed which was the point of my comment.
This is my second one. We have it outside the garage door exposed to the elements yearound ruclips.net/user/postUgkxreK_FUQ74_bylFqCr3y2MHqL3u78-b3r Direct sunlight deteriorated the plastic on the thermostat and severe winds blew the lid off. We found it about an acre away. I bought a new one and I saved the good parts from the old one as spares. Got about 8 years out of the first one.
I have something similar and LOVE it. We do basically what y’all are doing but we will also make a cheese fondue mixture that, after cooking the meat, et., put on the broil trays, top with the fondue and melt it further with the broiler. It’s fun and delicious!
I didn’t know what a raclette grill was but I’ve just seen one in a French supermarket for under 10€! I looked on the Internet and found your entertaining and informative video and they look great so I’m off to the shop to buy one later!
ok the thing is when you are inside on a cold winter day, the worst thing is to put stuff on top as it will burn and smoke and its just nasty. What you gotta do is put the things inside the pan and then put it on top, that way it won't burn and smell for forever, you just need 1 or 2 minutes until everything is done, like you can fry onions, bacon, mushrooms or whatever you want quickly as the top gets super, hot enough to transfer the heat to the small pan, then place the cheese, and broil it underneath as usual. This is way cleaner and more fun and less smelly.
Raclette is a Swiss dish traditionally consisting of melted cheese over potato's, but cheese goes with anything. This grill is a gimmick, but that doesn't mean it's not useful and (if used often enough to justify the price, decent ones are $100-150), a fun way for dinner for 4. Larger items like baby potatoes or sliced carrots can be cooked separately.
Pour some wine on the grill at the end of your meal and scrape it with one of the scrapers that comes with it. It's cast iron so obviously never use soaps or detergents.
😂I found it super easy to clean. Let grill part soak (it’s removable) it wiped right off no scrubbing needed Even the cheese that was burnt on sides wiped off with ease
@@welldone it worked i cooked them on the 4th of july i grilled them like i was on a real grill it came out perfect afterwords i put them in the oven to stay warm lol
No you’re just boring! It’s because they rushed it on purpose of the video! but it’s actually fun and interactive! It takes a little time to cook the meats so you can talk and have a glass of wine and enjoy each others company!
What a useless piece of equipment. Unfortunately, we got one of these for Christmas and I can't wait to get rid of the damn thing in a way that does that offend the giver. More landfill junk. Maybe Goodwill will take it.
Excellent video to help us plan our first Raclette meal - an Easter celebration with our oldest son & family!
I thought this was a very helpful video. Looks like a fun focal point for a group meal.
My baby sister got me this for Christmas 😯
I live in the netherlands and we go all out on this during christmas.
So much fun eating mini meals.
Thank you for this! Very helpful
I have only ever put the Raclette cheese in the tray. We usually serve with potatoes, ham and cornichons.
They are doing it the "American" way. You know just butcher the entire dish and pretend they are eating some exotic and well cultured cuisine.

@@nfinance2 Actually, Kris, my Swiss wife says this IS the traditionally way.
@@maxsdad538 I literally moved on from this thread a month ago. You know, the world is buying GameStop stock now, not too focused on eating Raclette.

Nice recommendation :)
I'd never have though of cooking fruit in it. Thanks.
Thanks so much we received one for the Holiday season was looking for ideas, love the pear and cheese!

Aldi sell value version
How do you clean it? That's the most important question that no one bothered to explain :/
the tray is removable
On the top grill you put salt and let it heat for 5 minutes. After that clean it with a cloth and detergent. Do NOT use a sanding cloth!!!!!!!
Pour some wine on the grill at the end of your meal and scrape it with one of the scrapers that comes with it. It's cast iron so obviously never use soaps or detergents.

You can just Google that not rocket science
Love it, I just ordered one, would it damage my marble dinning table. Pls say how I can protect my table. Thank you
Are you sure that it’s not cast aluminum?
Not a sales advertisement though. You both seems to be stressing out, rather than relax and enjoy grilling.
its some kind of tradtion on German Christmas holidays or New Years Eve
AS WELL
In Europe we call it a Gourmet grill.
No. It's also called Raclette Grill in Europe!
can you cook chicken wings on it
Probably not. An oven, grill, air fryer, or pot of hot oil would work best because the wings would cook more evenly.

Not really! You can make pancakes in the trays tho. How long did that take you?
What's that white crap on the top level where you placed the meat?
It’s crap.
salt
They took turns dropping dook on it.
This does not look fun, I'm soo stressed after watching this. Too much going on. Thank you though, I definitely don't want one now.

Really....so much fun
I have one. It’s easy. Actually a slow way to eat and have some wine with guests
Reminds me of an easy bake oven.
Good for fun with kids.
Kinda wrong. Can do what you want but this is way too complicated than traditionally done.
too busy
its not cast iron
Actually, I just purchased the exact model they demo'd and it is cast iron.
You’re doing it wrong :(
No, they're not. There is NO "right or wrong" way, Slick. You make it, you eat it, you did it right.
Terrible review looks disgusting

Did he just, seriously, put raw bacon in with onions & potatoes??
You're not gonna die, this is not made for restaurant setting.
It will all cook together. It wont be raw after its been under the broiler.
er... it's called "cooking", Sport.
another butcher of the pronunciation
Raclette (/rəˈklɛt/)
Sounds like they got it right.
