Low Back Pain treated with Prolotherapy when other treatments don't resolve the spinal instability

  • Ross Hauser, MD and Danielle Matias, PA-C discuss low bak pain caused by underlying and often undiagnosed spinal instability, as well as how we use motion diagnostics and physical exam to properly identify the areas that are causing many degenerative conditions of the low bak. It can really hold people back from doing what they love, so if you're suffering from this and haven't found other at-home methods are resolving the issue, perhaps Prolotherapy is the next option to consider. As always, we wish you all the best in health and healing!

Hi, I have a few questions. Is it always the case that the person has a shorter leg or lower shoulder with cervical instability? Do headaches alwyas radiate from that lower back of the head area or can you get multiple types of headache and can the symptoms vary a good bit as I’ve heard some say? And is a buffalo hump or dowagers hump usually a sign of neck or spine issues as well and if not how often are other things the cause?

Great question! We have an article on this if you’d like to take a look - The right vagus nerve (more so than the left) innervates the SA node and the AV node off the heart. (This is why vagus nerve stimulators are placed on the left side).

Hello I got my first prolotherapy a week ago and after the injection my lower back and legs felt like a huge amount of weight has wear off and it was like it was painless after nearly 2 years but it's been a week since I got the injection but my pain is back as it were 😢 WHY that? It's my first session.
    Is it normal?

Prolotherapy is not a one shot wonder! We are so grateful that you were pain free however we often tell our patients that between the second and fourth weeks, the initial stabilization induced by the Prolotherapy may feel like it has lessened because the initial growth of ligament tissue may not be fully complete, therefore some of the original pain may return during this “window period” of healing.
We have FAQs about your first Prolotherapy visit on our wesbite if you'd like to take a look caringmedical.com/prolotherapy/why-prolotherapy-results-may-not-be-seen-immediately/

Does prolotherapy feel like a spinal tap? Cuz I’ve had over 13 lumbar punctures since 2015. But one time, they hit a leg nerve and ever since then- I’ve been scared to do them cuz it felt like I got struck by lightning in my leg. I was screaming and crying and even almost fell off the table 😵‍💫 and for a whole week after that, my leg kept twitching and I had a difficult time standing. I just want to know if hitting a nerve like that is possible with prolotherapy… or is it not as bad?

From my experience as a prolo patient, it is not that bad at all however I suggest taking all the meds. They give me a vicodin, a xanax and laughing gas but I think I probably could do it with just the xanax. It feels like a bunch of little pinches but Dr Hauser is so quick he's done in a few minutes he's very skilled and experienced n uses ultrasound guidance on the upper cervical. You have to sign a paper bc ofc there is always a chance a nerve could be hit or something but that's why I went to Dr Hauser it's a 17 hr drive for me but he's the best!

@@JacksonStar4757 I live in Cali lol but I def would love to have this done out there. And oh write that’s a good amount. For my LPs, they only give lidocaine 😭

@@user-ik1qj8ni4o oh man you are braver than me I def think the LPs are more painful and risky than prolotherapy esp since the needle goes into your spinal canal whereas prolotherapy they hit bone on the transverse processes of the vertebrae I think. Where the ligaments attach.

Prolotherapy is painful but not unbearable! We do offer mediation like Xanax and sedation if necessary! Dr. Hauser is also very very good at what he does and it is over before you know it!
