this thing doesn't have traction controll. If you turned traction control on you put the ingame tc which probably lets you get some slip in a low setting
A bathtub with 400 hp and no seat belts. With zero downforce and zero safety stuff on tracks. Brave men then. Oh yes, the ones who survived. I remember when you drove the Matra at old Spa: pure madness.
Denis Corazza don’t forget; the drivers chose not to bother with seatbelts because being thrown clear of the car and taking your chances with the ground was considered preferable to being strapped to a car that was probably going to become a fireball. Self sealing tanks, nomex, and the avoidance of using combustible materials (like magnesium alloys) were still many many dead drivers, spectators, pit crew and Marshals away.
I'd love to see you do some more classic F1 cars, obvious follow up would be the Lotus 49c, see how much difference some wings and tobacco sponsorship makes to the speed!
A few comments before I'm going to watch this: - No other car is more terrifying on this track in VR - You have to be soooo gentle, most of all on the brakes - Answer to the title question: However fast Jim Clark would make it go
Well there's an F1 super mod called F1 challenge VB which has every single season of formula 1 in it. So you can do a play through from 1950 season all the way to 2018 (2019 is in development). It's a bit annoying to download if you have slow internet as there's a lot to download. But if you follow the set up instructions correctly, it'll run perfectly well on a modern PC :)
@@RonniePeterson I have tried multiple times and I haven't been able to make it run fine. Always has some errors, even installed all the patches that supposedly fix it.
Clark was so dominant in that period as he was smooth with his inputs; you improved from Pflanzgarten onwards as you went back to a more progressive approach.
That was pure madness well done Jimmy Without downforce the only thing keeping these cars on the road was the drivers weighty balls! 5 years on I still love that lap still cant come anywhere close to it!
I had to stop and go back to the time stamp because I wanted to immerse myself in the noise with the headphones, which I didn't have on for the intro. I liked the intro. Wasn't too long and was full of interesting information.
These kind of old open wheelers are my favourite things to drive in AC. I just love how loose and free they are. You have to constantly dance with the car, feeling it's limits, and trying not to exceed them. Modern open wheelers are cool too, but I find them very razor sharp. When they snap they snap hard AF. These older beasts are more involving in some ways, yet more forgiving at the same time, as even though you lose time when you go over the limit, you can also usually go over the limit quite safely and continue driving. Whereas in a modern F1 car even putting a tip toe over over the limit often ends up with the car facing backwards or in the wall lol. You should do a video testing out the recently released early '60s 1500cc F1 mod cars. The sharknose Ferrari is a ton of fun to drive. I'd recommend '66 Monaco as the location.
Jimmy I would love to see a 100% series with these classics around the vintage tracks. Especially with the Expanded Wanglecanon, we could watch his grandfather tear around Spa in a Lotus. Bonus points for the lack of wings, so Grandpa Wanglebork won't have any to break.
The cosworth DFV was so good on its first race the only thing that happen was a broken timing gear. Once they figure out a timing gear damper the vibration was gone. It was game on. That’s another part still in used in modern f1 cars. The engine was literally unchanged for a bunch of years until the turbo Era where it died out. I love the DFV engine.
How about trying the Porsche 917/30 on the Nordschleife? No traction in slow corners and absolute rear grip in higher gears are very scary in the fast bumpy flat out corners.
917/30 is a beast, it's a bigger work out than going to the gym, done it myself recently (albeit on the PS4 version of AC) it's a larey bugger but good fun
JIM CLARK - By far the greatest driver ever - no doubt. He is and was "The Best of the Best" (Fangio, Senna, Prost, Stewart and countless others about Clark). No other driver in history until today was so superior as Clark - No other driver as so much "Grand Slam" - Pole/Win/Fastest Lap/Leading every lap of the race - like him. One, who won in Spa by 5 minutes (!) in monsoon rain with only one hand at the wheel (!) because of gearbox trouble...One, who takes back a complete lap (!) in Monza and back into the lead... One, who took pole on the original 22,8 km Nürburgring track by 9 (!) seconds and more....One who won Indy by 2 whole (!) laps...For eternity and by lightyears unmatched in the sport. That`s just four examples of his mesmeric unique genius...
Nice driving in this legendary car! Im one of those who drove it for hundreds of hours in gpl back in the day. It seems more forgiving to drive in asetto corsa. F**king awesome lap however impossible to do a lap under 7min in gpl. That lotus 49 had lots of more understeer. If u missed an apex u would have an accident. Much more poisonous backend which was easy to take over the limit. In this speed u would have gone of several times in gpl. Jackie stewart once tried the original and said it was really close to the real thing 😊 But a great performance drive Jimmy 👍👍
Would be cool to see a picture-in-picture of the lap replay from a broadcast perspective, to really see you battling the car and getting around the course...I know that's mega editing but it would be interesting, especially in a car like this
Wow that was a great vid such fun to watch. Completely cannot see what’s happening in the shadows just wonder if he’s still got control! Would be amazing to see this car driven for real
My favourite F1 car ever and I love driving it around this track. I've been waiting for you to do a video to see where I can pick up time. Looks like I can't!
Hey Jimmy love the channel. I've been wanting this game when I found your channel. As soon as we move I will do what you do because you inspire me. Thank you and keep up the good work. Most of all stay well
hell ya. one of my favorite cars to (attempt) to tame. its such a monster, what with wanting to be driven ever so slightly sideways due to the old bias play tires but making very difficult with that big surge of power at the top end.
That's one hell of a lap you just put down, man. That's sub 7 seconds while testing a car's off-road capabilities! lol I must be crazy, as much of a workout as that lap looked like it was, all I could think is how much fun I'd have driving that thing! In the sim, of course... I don't need a reason to shit my pants in real life.

And yes you actually steered the cars with throttle, that's how slippery these bullets were (and it was said in the manual too).
