Just wanted to leave a comment saying I really like your style of teaching and videos. Even as a player a bit more advanced then some of your videos are intended, your positive attitude and obvious kindness make for videos that I truly enjoy watching! Keep up the good work
I'll give you the medal for having vastly improved guitarists' understanding of what they do. As you say (I think): It's not about copying Jerry but about becoming more literate.
JEFF WILLIAMS, try to make a Jerry Garcia video lesson about from years 1965-1968 style of playing because Garcia used different phrasing skills in his earlier years in the Jam Sections of version live concerts from 65-68. Most people this Garcia got his signature trademark phrasing from 65-68 but in my opinion it doesn't happen until live at winterland 74 that is when he started using phrasing by adding in the vocal melody as a theme to his CAGED shapes, adding chromatic notes, Scalar patterns, etc.
Building on 7, a great strategy when using motifs is to learn the vocal melody (or hook) of the song on guitar. By getting the rhythm and contour of the tune under your fingers, those elements will come out subconsciously in your improvisation. Next level from there is playing intentionally playing into and out of the melody, so the listener is able to hear references to the core theme of the song. In that space you are improvisationally building novel melodies that reconcile back to song itself in a cohesive way. "Don't bore us, get to the chorus" as the saying goes...
I do have a couple. Although they're some of the first videos I've ever made. They'd probably make me cringe if I watched them but hopefully they're still helpful. Dude I just recently discovered your site but it is just so righteous. Thanks
No prob. Glad it's helpful.
first time seeing you, may the algo continue the blessings to others
Same!
Great lesson, Jeff! Thanks for all the hard work. It really shows.
Thank you so much Jeff. What a pleasure to hear.
Super grateful for your channel! Love the backing tracks and the lessons 🔥
Thanks and glad you enjoy the videos!
Jeff! Now that you’ve acquired the most beautiful Stratocaster I have ever seen, we’re gonna need a gear video!
It's funny you say that because just yesterday I made my first guitar review! But... not for the new strat, my other guitar which is a B&G.

Maybe early Jerry is beyond notation
I AGREE please this would be a blessing 🙏
Very cool, thanks again! Your playing is really good; like you got that "magic" going for you.
No prob and thanks!

Enlightening & Inspirational
good stuff here- thanks
Beautiful ✌️
Thanks
Great lesson Jeff! I think of myself as a Tele guy ,but that Strat is gorgeous. What is it?
Thanks! It’s an American Pro II: sweetwater.sjv.io/4GJjZ9
The jam portion is A-G-D. The G is quick and almost a passing chord but it’s still present. Nonetheless great stuff as always
I’ve have always played it that way but maybe the G isn’t needed. It works without it. Just tried it
@@CCChinaRiderthe G is definitely in there as a passing chord. Jerry and Mayer hit it explicitly in many of their solos
nice lesson...what model strat is that? Ultra?

Jeff, can you do a video on Jerry's use of 6ths?

How to sound like "jerry"- noodle endlessly with no discernable direction.
