    I much prefer these self reliance series (i.e. waters edge, yurt, long hunter, etc). I feel that people need more self reliance education than they need "lost in the wood" education. I think these videos are helping people more than you know. Thank you and keep up the good work!

    Dave, another great video as always. There are a couple of paddling techniques that you should look up when you get a chance called a J stroke and a C stroke, which limits the need to constantly switch paddling side in a canoe. They allow you to turn and control the canoe while keeping the paddle on the same side of the canoe instead of the "kayak method" you do. The J stroke and the C stroke also conserve those precious calories by reducing the amount of energy expending while paddling.

    Really enjoy the videos, used a few ideas from your Waters Edge video on my last camping trip. Made a trout line in a stream by my camp site ( my state 3 hooks max) with in a hour two on the line, three hours i got 3. Kids loved it, wife loved it, defiantly i loved it whole family was involved. Keep up the great videos!!

    I need to get out fishing with my dad. I know how busy you are but envy how much of it gets you out of "modern" life. Feel like just another lemming sometimes hoping for 1 more campsite before we reach the cliff.

    awesome! my step dad and I used to run jug lines and bank lines all the time. More than once I was surprised by a giant turtle when I pulled em up. I was just a kid and it scared the hell outta me so I'd cut em loose. Now... that would be dinner! Great series Dave, keep on fishin'!

    For this kindah application, I like putting the weight on the bottom and the hook about 9 above the bottom. Limb lines are highly effective. With alot of line and hooks, you can feed alot of people with catfish. Very nice video.

    I read about a trap where you take a 2 liter plastic bottle, cut the top off about 1/4 inch or so below where it rounds off, flip the top around and put it inside the other piece and you can use some tape or poke a hole for cordage to tie it off and keep it in place. Supposed to be a good minnow trap. Hope I explained that OK. I really enjoyed this video, I got to look into these or see if I cant make one, thanks for the upload!

    good catfish bait we use is plain ivory soap....i didnt think it would work until i tried it ...also if setting jug lines at night they dont have to be very deep...catfish come up to feed....thanks for video and for what you do

    hey dave, whenever the line is wrapped around the float like you had it, dont pull it all off when you set it, when the bait sinks the float will spin and release line similar to a spool, and then the extra line stays on the float, and gets taken off when a fish(or turtle, lol!) runs with the bait,
    -Fb, P.S. love the vids keep up the good work!!!

    Man I've caught huge cats on single raisins, small marshmallows, and peices of cut bait the size of your thumbnail. Of course that's with a fifty hook trotline, but you can bait plenty of hooks with a small bream. I Love juggin' and bush hookin', too! Great rig with the knot above the hook. It'd would work great with live bait, too!

    Thanks for the tips on the floatation thing and on the bankline. I saw a Sigma3 video where they used a yoyo trap for a bankline. I don't know the legalities here in Ohio on that, I'd have to check, but that method looked interesting.

    Hi Dave, just getting to watching this video after a weekend in the woods and I noticed in your new intro, the portion where you are shooting the pocket hunter slingshot deal, if you watch it and dont know about that tool it may appear that you are just drawing up and dry firing an invisible bow... :)

  • @Gnostic279
    @Gnostic279 12 лет назад

    A friend of mine make some nice "juggs" useing pvc pipe and some weight inside. It is set up where if anything takes the hook or just the bait the pipe will tilt to one side and the weight will shift and cause the floater to sit in the water vertically. That way he can just look accross the lake and see which limb lines need to be checked.

    great video dave, i want to ask your opinion on one man fishing pontoon boats. I use one very often where i live and have found that the are much more stable and easier to maneuver in some places. they handle well in rivers as well as rough water on lakes.

  • @iwantosavemoney
    @iwantosavemoney 12 лет назад

    dave if you put your weight on the bottom and your hook above it when the fish hits the bait it will self hook the fish and will keep the hook off the bottom and keep it from getting hung up good video

    Just for general knowledge walmart usually has those pool noodles for about 1.88 a piece. which could make you 3-4 of them floats. and Ii saw coat hangers for the rings and thought it was a great idea. You could probably use the end of a 1 liter soda bottle for the plastic mount.

    When my neighbor's daughter was about Layla's age I was just getting home from work one day when I heard her screaming hysterically. I and her dad both ran over to their pond where she was - fully expecting to find her snakebit or with a broken leg or in some other terrible peril. Nope - hooked a 4 1/2 lb bass on her Bardie rod. I have no idea how she got it in to the bank. He had it mounted for her. :-)

    Awesome video Dave, you should set some of those up with your nylons like you did in your cat fishin video unless Dfg says you can't or something since your leaving the sets over night I live in California theirs all kinds of crazy fishing rules here go figure, but the good life is coming leaving the state finally after the summer Colorado bound can't wait!!! Great video brother god bless!!!

    Dave, you really need more weight on the end that goes all the way to the bottom. A friend of mine showed me a great way to make your own using an old muffen pan as a mold for melted lead, fill the cup and when still liquid put an old scrap of wire in a u shape in that you can hitch a line to, works great and costs pennys for old scrap lead.

    I've caught many a catfish using empty 2 liter bottles and bank line in my neighbors pond. Throw about 10 out overnight and use a canoe to collect em the next morning. Just make sure you know what you have on the line before heaving it into the canoe. I once thought I had the biggest catfish in the pond and when I gave the line that final tug... I flipped a HUGE pissed off snapping turtle into the canoe.

  • @TheGrizzlyHillbilly

    I don't have a boat so i use bank line too and wire leaders do the same set up as you basically but i tie about 50-100 feet depending on how big the lake is to the top and throw it out far as i can. tie the top line to a branch or pole on the shore. that way i can reel it in. down in kansas i caught a 5 ft Gnar using that method.

    for someone who has done that for year in a conoe the longer your string and the size of the weight decides how fast you want it to drift and I have done really well catching fish during the day on them and homemade/store bought it doesnt matter they all work well and in 10 feet of water you only need like 5 feet of string. and remember the wind is your friend on a jug

    here in IL we are allowed 50 hooks on the lake, so me and my brother made up 50 "jugs" each out of pool noddles , cut them to 10 inches and wrap a coat hanger through it, cost about 10 cents per " jug" and brings in tons of cat fish

    What's your opinion on inflatable canoes? I've been considering a Sevylor Colorado although it is a bit above common man pricing. Can you recommend any ruggid inflatables? Are the more pricey say $300-400 range inflatables much more heavy duty than the $100 one's? Worth the extra money? Appreciate any advise you can provide on this. Thanks J
