I used to work as a photo editor for a photography studio, and the third one (the only good one imo) is pretty similar to the standard edits we'd give to clients who were vague or gave us no idea what they'd want. Brighten it up, whiten teeth, make the colour on the subject pop from the background, smooth skin etc. The only "disappointment" is that none of them paid any mind to the background (I personally would have at least removed the cables to make the background cleaner and less distracting). As for expecting the pompom girl artist to go crazy, honestly usually if a client is vague and just says "work your magic", the artist will likely actually play it safer and only do simple edits. Because customers can be awful and you don't want to risk going too crazy unless they specify it. I think a great follow up experiment could be to reach out to some fiver artists (the third artist, pompom girl artist and maybe some new ones) and give them some much more specific, kind of crazy instructions, and see what they come back with.

As a retoucher myself, it is hard for me to know exactly what I would have ended up with if given this challenge, but the photo you liked was the one you gave more instruction on. The more an editor knows what you are looking for, generally the better the outcome. I know you were just wanting to know what they would come up with on their own though. It is my guess the guy who changed your body shape is used to doing fashion edits where a little of that is expected. He did it though with a background that makes it almost impossible to do without warping which makes it obvious and looks horrible. I think if told to just "work my magic", I would have completely removed the background and done something more artistic, but then that gets out of a $5-10 price range. I might have done it anyway for the fun of it. That and a background that is less busy puts more emphasis on you. Editing should be like wearing makeup. It doesn't make you something you are not, just gets rid of what you don't want and enhances you already have. The less editing that is needed, the better, which means you should start with a good photo, which as a photographer, I'd say this shot was not the best to begin with. That's nothing against you, though.

Rebekah Cater, if photoediting is still your interest, there are plenty of tutorials to using Gimp in ways which aren’t what come to mind when you think of photoediting, like making shapes look like real gold or whatever metal colour you wish. Truthfully, I used Gimp for digital illustration/cover design (I made a 3D gold gilded flourishing frame using the technique I’ve mentioned before), but I was able to apply the same theory for when I needed to retouch a photo and fix horrible lighting for family pictures we wanted framed, for example the photo was taken in darkness by a campfire and I only needed the faces to be brightened a bit and leave everything else dark to preserve the atmosphere, or maybe the flash gave a few members the red eye, or the fluorescent lighting gave everyone’s skin a bad hue. You may find that once you start to understand how Gimp is built, your imagination to what you create is your only limit. Also, did you know you can create a little animation using Gimp?
This would have been a lot more satisfying to watch if you put side by sides of each photo OR if you had paid for at least ONE of the premium services (i.e. one that was $20 versus $5) to compare what the differences were.
When she mention her skin tone in the last edit made her look a little sick...I was ooo. That’s my natural skin tone. I don’t tan and her hair is not much lighter then my natural color. It is very fair lol. Just made me giggle.
As a real pro retoucher, working with famous international brands I would like to point out several things: 1. None of these edits are professionally made, not even close 2. A trained pro can see mistakes and has a creative vision because of his/her experience. That experience is not equal to putting a few filters and opening Facetune 3. A true retouch artist does not have a magic button. Instead he/she uses Photoshop as an art tool, with techniques 4. A pro does not use the brush or blur to smooth skin 5. Photoshop is very complex and it takes years to learn it the right way 6. No real retouch pro would be on Fivver, selling his hard earn skill for 5 dollars 7. Instagram users using filters and Facetune (or other push-a-button apps) or using the brush and blur tools in Photoshop should not consider themselves editing pros if they do not want to look like a fool. This video is truly offensive to true Photoshop artists.

As a real pro retoucher, working with famous international brands I would like to point out several things:
1. None of these edits are professionally made, not even close
2. A trained pro can see mistakes and has a creative vision because of his/her experience. That experience is not equal to putting a few filters and opening Facetune
3. A true retouch artist does not have a magic button. Instead he/she uses Photoshop as an art tool, with techniques
4. A pro does not use the brush or blur to smooth skin
5. Photoshop is very complex and it takes years to learn it the right way
6. No real retouch pro would be on Fivver, selling his hard earn skill for 5 dollars
7. Instagram users using filters and Facetune (or other push-a-button apps) or using the brush and blur tools in Photoshop should not consider themselves editing pros if they do not want to look like a fool.
This video is truly offensive to true Photoshop artists.
Using PHOTOSHOP properly takes flair and some skill. Yes... takes time to master the more complex parts...
