How to Disassemble Your Door Panel (300ZX Z31)

- In this video we remove the door card on my 1986 Nissan 300zx. The process should be the same for all model years (minus the SF model with crank windows). I also go through how to remove the window glass, and motor/regulator assembly as well as a bit of diagnosis on my window motor which recently stopped working even though I can hear the motor turning.

Mine stopped working too. To fix mine I took the motor off the regulator, then unscrew the top cap off the motor. Pull the shaft out of its case and you will see the sludge inside. Clean contacts with wire wool and re-assemble. My windows are now fast working 👍

Good luck getting it working again. I replaced the motor in mine and it was still doing the same thing, so I'm going to be replacing the regulator next to see if that's the issue

I went and took one of those motors out at the junkyard before I ever seen this video and you're right it is a pain in the ass so meanwhile I have the new motor in the top of my toolbox and the old one still in my car you have to push my window up and down you can hear the motor work inside the door but it does nothing lol

I took mine apart today. It looks like one of the bushings on the window is broken and the metal worm screw slowly wore down the plastic worm wheel. I plan to try a remanufactured motor and see how it works. Make sure to install the metal spring the right way!
You should dynamat the door before putting the door card on if you have the material. Great video.
That's not a bad idea! Probably help with some of the road noise in my Z lol

Great video, thank you. You mentioned lubricating the door lock assembly and the window guides. What kind of lubricant do you recommend?
I use white lithium grease but anything water resistant will also hold up well

If you cant get power to the motor just push it ever so slightly till the rail lines up with thoes holes.
Do U know how i plalace the Radio thing at the Back
Do you have any experience with, or ideas, on how to remove the motor if it is stuck in the down position? I tried all day yesterday on mine and cannot figure out a way to do it. Thanks in advance!
Literally had the drivers side window regulator break today. Hit down when it was already down, heard a click and then the window went loose. Post some videos how you end up fixing this as I’m in the same boat! Maybe there’s a way to 3D print a fix?
I've tried replacing the motor already, but it didn't fix anything so I'm getting a whole motor regulator combo to try out. I'll try to post something up when I do get it fixed!

If you Google "300zx z31 door handle latch" there's a guy who sells aluminum replacements on Etsy. Then you use those to replace the broken piece in your door handle
Since both of my doors dont open i have to figure out a way to open them up. I have to figure out how to open up the panel and open both doors.
They don't open from the outside handle or the inside handle?
I have recovered my door panels my headliner my a pillars and got my shit looking really good but now I'm at the point I don't know what to do about my driver side door handle the chrome metal part of the lever has broken so it will not open the door anymore I'm really pissed my interior looks great but I cannot find a driver side door handle anywhere

Why do you think the glass would rattle like it has play on it like it's loose
It will move around when the door card is off because the seal along the top helps to stabilize it. But you can take the window glass out and make sure the pieces that slide along the rails are tight. Mine were loose when I got my Z from the previous owner who had replaced that window. The company that replaced it didn't tighten them enough
@@TheZGarage lol thanks for the reply man my Z31 is kinda trashed only thing special about it Is its turbo ls now but hey thanks for your wisdom I'll see what I can do cause with the door open the glass just its loose as hell I'll follow your advice and I'll see if I find anything

Ah that might be problematic haha. But at least you know what the issue is!
@@TheZGarage yea lol it was those 2 bolts that are next to the right adjustment of the actual glass so it's fine now thank you for reply btw the Z31 community isnt all that big it's hard to get that help thanks again for delivering

The pieces in the door handle are likely broken. Someone sells metal versions on Etsy. You should be able to look up "Z31 300ZX Door Lock/Latch Bars" and find them
