- This video is about how to remove your tank from a 1986 Nissan/Datsun 300zx. I also cover how to clean the tank with muriatic acid and I attempt to put a sealer in it- it didn't work and there's more on that in the video. Anyways, sorry its kind of long but I hope it helps!

Changed the CAS as per video.But had to force rotor off was seize there for some reason didn't look like any loctite or anything there now. Car runs worse than ever. I don't know if I knocked it out of time or not or is it a bad cas?

ehh, its going but could be better. i just picked up an AE turbo with 46000 miles and within two days, someone in a lancer backed into me and the first major overheat occurred (it being a Z31, I expected this) so now I'm waiting for an upper rad hose to get here from the states. So now its just sitting waiting :( love these cars but i hate thier damn cooling systems. btw your 87 is a lot like my 87, except i minds gold outside and is the digital model. you got a whole bunch of videos on here, i never seen them before. btw, where are you from can i ask? the scenery looks like my own Utah, or maybe NM or AZ. just wondering. cheers.

thats what i thought lol. the AE is rare for sure. maybe you'll have one someday! never know... my 87 has the maxima cooling fans and they work quite well actually. make sure you get a better alternator to handle the load. looking forward to more videos and i'll see you over at zcar. take care man -Bon
Did you ever figure out a good way to coat the inside? Looking at dropping mine because the fuel coming out is a little.. orange.

Hello Josh, my name's Eddie, and I recently purchased a 1987 Nissan 300ZX. I'm having an issue in regards to my fuel gauge showing the car as less than half full, even when I pump gas and filling her up. It's telling me I am running on less than half the full tank, but when I go to fill up the car, it only allows me 2-3 gallons before it fills up. If I force it anymore, it overfills. Would you recommend replacing the fuel sensor in the rear? Or would it require me to clean in out like you showed us here?

Joshua Crepeau thank you for your reply! I failed to mention my Z has a Digital Dash. I was looking up the OEM parts and it said it wouldn't work on the digital fuel gauge. So the part you ordered from Amazon is different in that it used a floating device? Would I just disconnect the blue connector device if it's still in mine? Sorry a lot of questions.
So apparently if you leave the acid in too long it will dissolve the plastic baffle around the fuel pump... ask me how i know

Any tips on how to get it back in? I'm having a really hard time lining it up and putting it back in than I did getting it out and it probably doesn't help there's almost half a tank of fuel in it. It's really hard to keep it balanced on my floor jack with the fuel sloshing around and it feels oddly lopsided. On top of all that I have to jam the fuel lines back onto the nozzles with little to no hand room. I have half a mind to just cut a spot in the trunk to work with it lol.
Yeah I've had the exact same problem trying to get mine in lol. The best thing that you can do is if someone can help you position the tank and then rest it on jack stands or blocks of some sort while you connect the lines then lift it up into the final position. A lot of people do cut a hole in the trunk though haha

How did you remove the sender unit? I removed the screws but the plastic cylinder doesn't come out
It is most likely seized on the tank. As long as all the bolts are out, nothing will be holding it in. Try getting a small flat blade and prying the edge up
@@TheZGarage Just got it out a little while ago, I ended up pry at the metal blade in the center of the unit, don't know if it did damage but I'll probably just end up replacing it, if there's still replacements out. 🤔
@@TheZGarage As for the acid, I might just use vinegar, hopefully it works well.
Hey dude how did you remove your sending unit?
The hole in the rear hatch is the sending unit. Just take it off and undo the bolts on top of the tank. Then pull the unit up and out. Very simple. If it's stuck, use a flat blade to pry it up.
special tool to take out the tank strap nut that has long threaded bolt? (drives side) regular socket nor box end wrench could reach it
A deep socket or ratcheting wrench work best
How did you remove the straps
Support the tank with a jack or something, then there are 12 or 14mm nuts on the straps on the side next to the differential. Undo those and the straps will come down. Then twist them sideways to get them out of the rear hinge
You need to invest in a reall jack!!
