Thanks, my power supply for Surface Pro 4 caused a spike and fried something, I'm hoping it's the same diode or the fuse you mention. I got a new PS but it doesn't power on with or without PS attached. I will be opening it up soon to have a look. Your video is very helpful, thank you for sharing the info, it's appreciated!
Could you please share what I must look for when testing the diodes with a multimeter? What values are "it's okay" and "it's dead" ? I don't have much experience with this, and also no budget to send it in for repairs.
Wow, they really just put a spare in there for us haha. Thanks for the video. Mine decided to do this after i put the heatsink back. It was working fine before I put it on and I thought I killed my new battery. I was able to get the spare one out and put it in and bingo, works.
Well this definitely just started happening to mine but I don't have a solder or know how to do that. I tried pulling the battery out but that didn't work. Thinking about replacing the motherboard instead but I already lost all my data cause of bitlocker so im even considering the cost of repair vs replacing it at this point.
sir may i ask if after changing the battery , it somehow could power without connector (error battery not detected), also after a while the battery is being glued and after somehow i try organizing the connector and at last the battery is charging (but didn't realize until i got the same symptoms just like the video), for current condition the battery is charging and chargeable but just wont power on with battery power , is it still the same diode as the video ? i tried measured the fused intact without battery and still detected resistance on it , but my measurement on diode show there is still sign of resistance does it means its faulty diode ?

Nice Video! Am I right to assume that the components you mentioned to cause issues are also the same that I should check when my surface doesn't do anything at all? It doesn't turn on on battery nor when the charger is pluged in, and the charger does not charge it (Wattmeter gave me like 0.1 Watts after 6h) but the charger LED is lit. Is there anything else I should check?
@@danishblunt9698 yes, SP4. worked 3 months ago, then I didn't use it until yesterday and now it appears to be completely dead besides the glowing LED of the charger plug
@@TheNytech I think its to early to say right now. Not turning on could honestly be anything. Try to measure for both diodes, else just use some isopropylalcohol and see if you can find a short somewhere.
Hi, How did you condem the diode? Multimeter in diode mode. And value showing only one way. And open line on the other way? Or is there somehing to check with continuity mode? My sp4 is showing 14 volts on CPU side. And 8.3v towards fan side. At the battery. Also seeing same 8.3v.
The 225% means there is no battery connected. It's like a placeholder value. So maybe your new battery connection is not seated fully (there is a little pin under the board to line up the new battery cable)
Hello. I do have a question. Can I use my surface pro 4 if I remove its battery, relying only on the power supply? Please I am hoping for your immediate response
Yes, but you will have to put a piece of paper or non conductive material in between the board “pins” and the back of the surface as it is aluminum and will “short” power and not turn on.
@@kkkkiaken Wish I saw this comment sooner. So the pins on the back of the board. Put some paper between the case and the pins and it will boot up without the battery?
Hi, i have a pro 4 that works on battery but not charging when connected to AC. The AC charger light is on but not charging instead battery dissipating quicker than normal. Also, the cover board not detected (not software issue). Please can you help and also cant' find your discord.
You ver likely have the same problem as in the video, however instead of the diode that I replaced you need to replace the other one below the one I replaced. 1 Diode is making it possible to run of the battery, the other is the one charging. It's the exact same process as on the video however on the other diode. Also when you finish up, put some isolation tape over the bottom of your shield, it's actually the shield that shorts the diodes through the other components.
Hey man I recently got a new pc with a ryzen 7 5800x and I am having some temp issues I am very new to pc and I saw your video on it but I need some help. Is there any way you can help me.
Hi mate, having the same fault, Surface not charging. What are your readouts of your diode? Also, I seem to only have 1 diode on my Surface Pro 4 2014, is that normal?
The Logicboard is very different on the SP6, I don't think it has the same problem, at least I'm not aware of it. Is it just a curious question or does your SP6 actually have the defect?
thats probably driver related tho, only SP3 and 4 have the hardware issue. Try to update the intel drivers and maybe turn off the refreshrate power saving in intel graphics manager
