I’ve been using SP51 for about 5 years as well. And I usually take this blade to a shorter trips rather longer trips due to the it’s weight. However, good old nutnfancy said, “firepower vs. mobility”. This is a replacement for those who doesn’t like to use axes in the woods. And I always paired it with my survive GSO 4.7 for detailed works. Thanks for the vid!

I've had mine for years. The SP51 and SP49 are my go to camp and backpack blades. I just trust the 1/4" 5160 steel over a 3/16" 1095 blade deep in the mountains. The only negative I have is the handle tang. But again, maybe the 1/4" thickness makes up for the thin tang. I would still like to get a BK9, BK7, RAT7 (but I don't like full flat grinds) and Buck 124 because of the full width/length handle tangs and micarta scales. By the way, what the hell is Ontario doing discontinuing all these bad ass blades? Their current catalogue is very lacking.

I have the gen 2 sp-51 and think it's a great knife. The coating is wearing off and coming off the back from batoning. I was surprised to learn this knife is being discontinued.
