AWESOME!!! I'm a new bee keeper, so is my dad, but he is a truck driver and he has been haling bees for years. We thought we needed those $90 buckets and filters, and that $250 decaping knife with the $350 spinning drum lol, thank you! This will save me much more money and time!!!!! I just wished I saw your videos before we bought that stuff.
You are the best!!!!!! We just started beekeeping this past spring and your video's have been a God send!! Reading about it is not as informative as seeing you demonstrate how to do it!! And, Since we arrest starting out... I Love that you show us how to do it on the cheap!!! Thank you for all the help you've given us!! Bless you!
Thanks Fat Bee Man. You're my newest best friend. I really appreciate our method of extracting honey. It's perfect for my two hives. I was dreading having to buy an expensive piece of equipment for such little honey. LOVE you methods. Thank you soooo much for putting up your videos.
thank you so much for this EXTREMELY helpful and educational video. I'm a future beginner beekeeper. I have been watching videos on RUclips for months now which adds up to a lot of videos on just beekeeping. I have not even started my future in beekeeping yet and I just wanted to tell you that your video was by far the most helpful I've watched by far (no joke). I'm one of many who is trying to find ways to do things as cheap as possible, by cheap I don't mean harmful shortcuts that hurt the Bee's or don't work. from what I just saw all your methods of cheap extraction work fabulous, it love that you gave a variety so people can pick and choose what works best for their own situation. It's like watching 3 videos all in one! what a time saver, I just learned 3 methods done cheap, safe and effective in under 10 mins. sir you rock! keep it up I look forward to watching any other helpful beekeeping tips you have.
Love your video's - a small tip from the UK - wave a paint stripper gun (Heat gun) gently over the surface of the comb and watch the cells pop, then place the frames in a new basting tin. Mine stand up on their own on the internal wire frame. Leave overnight and enjoy the honey in the morning. No mess and easy. Again love your video's
I am a first year beekeeper and so far my two hives are doing great so I am expecting some honey. I've spent so much already this year getting started - THANKS for posting this! What a help it will be....
When you first get started, it is a little on the pricy side. ( I think that's a bit of a shocker to newbies.) But eventually it pays for itself. They are amazing little creatures. And the more you learn about them and their ways, the more you see the direct print of their Creator.
Thank you sir, you have been a blessing to me! I'm hoping to start up my bees next spring and was kind of dreading the cost of everything. Keep posting great videos!
Awesome Video, uncapped my first 10 frames of honey over the past month... this video put me at ease when you advised that the bees will rebuild it if you go down to the foundation :) thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I live in Sweden and I am starting my first bee keeping course tomorrow. I have always dreamed of keeping bees, and my husband's grandfather was a beekeeper. All of his hives, screens, and tools were put into storage after he passed away and I am hoping that I will be able to have my own hive next year in them. Thanks once again, keep up the great work.
Really appreciate this video. I only had two shallow supers with honey and the bees vacated the premises, therefore doing it on the cheap. Learned a lot here.
Great video! This is my first time extracting and to say the least, i'm no where near properly prepared, yet your video and your instructions helped me a great deal. I get so caught up in the need for this gadget or that gadget, that I forget people have been extracting honey for thousands of years without a hot knife or a spinner. LOL Thanks again! Pulling my frames today!
@Jude Fitzgerald I saw in another video, where he had like 2 hives, one on top of the other, separated by a fine mesh. The bottom hive is for the Queen and the other bees (sterile females and fertile males to mate with the queen) to lay eggs and reproduce. The top hive was where the worker bees made the honey that actually gets collected. The mesh barrier is to stop the Queen from going and laying eggs in the cells of the top box.
I have a question: Since I'm a master woodworker, I'm planning to build myself a couple hives. I'm going to start with a typical Langstroth 10 frame medium setup, but I'm also going to build a top-bar hive. When building the Langstroth, should I plan for an entrance at the top or the bottom or both? I'm in mid-Michigan and will be setting the hives on top of a platform approximately 24" off the ground.
Don, you share a lot of good tips thanks, I have one you should try, a heat gun on low will melt the tops right off the cells and you can let it drain out. A lot less trouble and less wax waste, a cheep heat gun is the same price as your knife.
Thank you Don for yet another wonderful video. I'm wondering what you do with the wax you take off with the honey? I'm looking for bee wax for my hobbies.
If you still want to strain your honey, some muslin/cheesecloth makes a great fine strainer! You can buy that at most fabric shops for a reasonable price, too! I think I'll use a spaghetti strainer, then some cheesecloth, once I get a hive up and running! Thanks for the awesome vi, you seem like a real top bloke!
This is great. I knew an 80 yo man who traveled every year from WA to CA to run his bees in the orchards. I'd love to have some fresh honey, but I'll just let someone else do the work and buy it from them.
Thank you, i meet a guy that did not like me learning from looking at his equipment. I just need to buy frames because there hard to make but he could not stand i made the rest of it. Now he lost me from buying frames from him and i already have a guy that sells the frames for the same price. Lesson is on that one for people, dont stop the guy from being a cheap guy or you will loose the bit of business you're getting and the more down the road as i grow.
It's called frugal or in Spanish pinche. Just had my first swarm move in. I like seeing someone use Texas ingenuity. Will watch all you put on RUclips. Thank you. Ya'll are welcome on my ranch any time. Bless you, your wife and the bees.
Good video - although it makes the commercial hot knife look real handy :D. What did folk do before centrifugal extractors though? Smiled watching those 2 bees hovering around the comb! IA bumble bee will usually drop by when I beeswax my garden furniture, it doesn't stay long tho'.
Hi Don. Thanks for that presentation about honey extraction. I am looking to learn how honey oil can be extracted from honey itself. Would you kindly show me how to do this? Cheers, Martin Roy
Gotta love those Finlandia filet knives.. They're good for just about everything.. I've owned and used them extensively for years and I have yet to filet a fish..
when i click the youtube donate button it takes me to youtube's patreon page instead of your page. I am a little amateur at youtube and patreon; can any of you advise? Thanks for the videos... bee keeping is about as interesting as foundry work, if not more so.. something i would have never thought i could do, but sure looks fun and rewarding. Cody from Cody'sLab got me interested in the topic, am having a little difficulty finding well laid out, comprehensive basic videos on the topic. Your videos seem pretty valuable.. .thanks again.
Exceptional, thank you, found it and see you sell all kinds of gear... I'll be a customer and a cheerleader... thanks for the instruction.... ps. you can get a portable electric burner for cooking... and you can set the heat to low... and with an inexpensive knife and an insulating handle you can stick that blade in the twist of the burner or lay it on it... will heat it efficiently enough to probably make a little cleaner job without an actual hot knife; another option you can share with your students. .... love your videos.. .have a feeling Ima be a Bee keeper one day... thanks so much.
Goodday sir. You're video(Dirty Frames=Cleaning them)many moons back refers. You've mentioned that clorex will be fine to clean up those hives and frames. How do you go about? Just spray it on and leave it to dry before further use? Thanks Cobus🐳
Great videos. I just started beekeeping and I'm wondering how soon I can start to make splits. I have a brand new nuke. I'm not in it for the honey I just want more bees for the first few years. Thanks.
I'm wanting to start a beehive. I use the wax in my candles, soaps, hand creams etc...I also use the honey in my soaps. I'd like to start a beehive. I always buy raw honey, but it's terribly expensive. I'd like to get my own going. What would you recommend starting with...the bare basics? My hubby is good with wood working, so he could make the boxes for me. Where would I order the wax stuff for the frames? Can I make my own bee suit? I can sew. I have so many questions...I'm probably driving you crazy.
How close to the plastic frame are you cutting with your hot knife? Would you want to take all of the wax off and out(hot wash etc.)? How many uses will a frame last for?
I haven’t started keeping bees yet, just getting information for when I do. What happens to the bees when you take the frames out to extract the honey? Do you put in other frames in place of the ones you took out? How far away from the house do you place the hive? I’ve got chickens down now for the bees.
have you ever heard of someone making Holly flower honey? I have a special interest in that plant and the perfume of it is wonderful! Every holly tree will be abuzz with delighted harvesters. Hankering to taste holly honey...lol
God Speed Mr. Don the Fat Bee Man. 🐝 🐝 🐝 🐝 🐝. will like to know if you have beE honey on demand or at a store somewhere. You are loved by many in the Bee Keeping industry

Something ridiculously awesome about watching the hot knife cut through that comb. Great vid!!
That hot knife thing is immensely satisfying...
Ikr :o

same he should make a video compilation of him peeling the wax off
cool cool 💙💜😎

Wow! You've helped answer a lot of questions! Wish I could donate, but we're old and poor like you! Lol.
You know he's old fashioned when he says "your wife's strainer" because it's a kitchen utensil hha
I am too old
Haha good video dude

Please refrain from posting PC BS.

Hey
at 4:40
Could you use an old hairdryer on low to help coax the honey to drip and get more product?
No it gives honey a burnt taste.
I try too
Hey man thanks for the reply don. i watch all your stuff and learn alot . thanks man.
This was really neat to watch! Thank you
I just screamed out the window but he never came lol
Great tips Don! Do you find the hot knife changes the flavor of the honey at all?
no it wont if you cut fast and don't leave hot knife in the capping
Thanks just got me two new hives and this is a great vid... very informative

look at all those bee hives. we are looking forward to getting bees next year!
Damn feels good watching this
5:44, "I found the center of all honey, going to hive to report this"
8:32, "Oh snap, I am trapped by an invisible force. How will I go back now?"
I don't even have a hive, but this was fun to watch.

This is the most wholesome video I've ever seen.
Thanks sooo much for this video please keep them coming.
Would a nichrome hot wire work to remove the caps? Oh and that stainless steel mesh can be bought pretty cheaply as a bread rack for an oven.
I don't know why i'm so into this kind of videos, MAKE MORE!!
It's called frugal or in Spanish pinche. Just had my first swarm move in. I like seeing someone use Texas ingenuity. Will watch all you put on RUclips. Thank you. Ya'll are welcome on my ranch any time. Bless you, your wife and the bees.

How do u go about bee farming? Permit? License? Land? Etc.
hey fat bee man, i was just wandering. when starting the beehives, how are the best couple ways to get the bees?
Any thoughts on using a hair blower on high heat to melt the caps instead of cutting?
Thank you for interesting Video. Bes greetings from beekeepers in Ukraine! Good luck and good honey!
