This video is nuts! I struggle to make my drums sound punchy if i use the Sp404 (the OG not the SP404-sx or A variants) with the compressors. I asked someone online about it already and they said using the vinyl sim compressor was the way to go, I tried it but it still just ends up feeling like my drums die a bit. Any tips? I am guessing that it's a matter of finding different drum samples, but the ones i have are already quite punchy and good so it surprises me that they don't work for the purpose. Sorry for the slight rant. Really hoping to use my Sp404 more.
You must switch OFF the SP-404’s power before inserting or removing a memory card. If you insert or remove a memory card while the power is on, you risk damaging the data on the memory card, or rendering the memory card unusable. - Roland SP-404 user manual
Can I ask your opinion on whether on not I should trade my old microkorg and volca sample for a sp404a. Spent about $400 on the gear and the sp is new. Thanks for the videos on the sp, helps gimme ideas of how I might utilize it.
Hit record then hit the flashing pad you want to record then hit the button you want to record to it. Then you’ll need to trim it up a bit. Lmk if a short would help.
Any insight on putting full beats for a beat set like Teebs or Dibiase on this? I have a 128mb card and have read that it should hold at least 60 minutes of sample time. But when I load a bunch of beats on the card, the sampler only loads 3 beats :/ any help on taking advantage of all the sample time would be great!
Mine is the 404 OG so you can put a 1Gb CF card in it. Ive done a handful of beat sets of of it. If you have the SX or newer you can do more. That 128mb wont hold much as far as full songs go.
@@enokssounds so when people are talking about sample time being say 404 minutes in lofi mode on an sp 202 are they just blowing smoke? I would assume you'd get a fair amount of minutes with the 128mb, Luckily my 1 gb cards finally came in. I plan on getting as newer sp for more memoryu but I like starting out with this one. Lots of character! Thanks!
@@middknight5202 I have a 202 , doesn’t hold very much. Def wouldn’t do a whole beat set on it. If you record into the sp in lofi that would give you more memory time since the lower fidelity takes up less information basically. Dope on the 1g card coming in! Now you don’t have to load your songs in lofi. But you can :).
Got my 404 MKII yesterday, and I’ve been WAITING to use this video forever 😭😭😭😭
Oh my god. Quite possibly the most helpful video for the SP that I have seen! Thank you!!
Thank you, that's great to hear!
Awesome vid

Good stuff !!!
Great job on this man learned alot and was entertained and inspired. Thank you.
Wow nailed all three. All I could hope for. Thanks for the view and the comment brother.
How do I put samples
Onto the sp
Press REC then the pad you want to record to (should be flashing if its empty), then the REC button again.

Good question. Look up parallel compression. Big technique for drums. Giving me ideas for a new video. Thank you. 👍
@@enokssounds Am already familiar with that technique, but I appreciate the reply nonetheless. Looking forward to the new video!
Really dope man. Thanks!
thx a lot. can i play live on internal memory while changing the card and then play back from the card again?

@@enokssounds thx, mate!
Any solution for the sp404a pitch tip??🤔
Yo! Looks like pitch is on MFX 21 on the newer SP404A instead of on a dedicated button.

Hey sorry , didnt see this one. Yeah that is a pretty good deal!
Nice beats👍
Scary terry and Ed not sure what the middle one was
Nicely done! The other one is pretty obscure. Its from the video game Fallout 4.
Oh okay yeah I’ve played fallout 4 but it’s been awhile but still not sure which character it was.
@@skulldi It's a Raider girl when you get too close.
Did I hear Wes Montgomery’s “Mi Cosa” at 2:07?
😍💯 - Yes, Great Ear !
Great tips! And this comes from a hardcore Mpc dude.) Thx!
Thanks! MPC and 404 is a great combo!
Nice
And nice skin, Where buy it please?
Thanks ! I made it using styleflip.com. I do not own the image. It was created by graphic artist / genius “Beeple “.
I like that skin too. Looks clean!
Can you copy a sample from one pad to another on the OG? If so, how do you do it?
Hit record then hit the flashing pad you want to record then hit the button you want to record to it. Then you’ll need to trim it up a bit. Lmk if a short would help.
@@enokssounds thank you. So technically select multiple pads before you initiate the recording? Would love to see a short on it. Thanks again!
You can copy/paste on the SP404 SX and forward. OG you have to record the audio.
@@enokssounds got it. So basically, hit record > tap empty pad > hit record again > tap pad with sample. Is that correct?
i heard ed from ed edd and eddy but others i need to think about for a minute
Hell yeah , that’s right for one of em!

@@middknight5202 no worries! You would hit record, ( select a pad), change those settings , then hit record again
Last effect : quadimoto vox
I believe Quas slows the track down to record and then speeds the track + Vox back up 🤯
Nic3 1n3
capture the audio with an interface/usb mixer or something! too much room sound
I did the room sound is from my mic
I used an iPhone to record my voice audio hence the sh**ty room noise and quality LOL.
Broo please can we get a longer in depth video on the OG
What are you struggling with most ?
