As a 54 year old woman with 500,237 km...you sure have saved me! Ty! I have never attempted anything like this before and I did it! Thank you. Thank you. I had to find out exactly how many bulbs but you are so calm and thorough. I appreciate it so much. My van is lit and my confidence boosted! Hoping to make it 600,000 km! Whoop!

    Thanks!
Just replaced the bulbs in my 2002 Odyssey...without the help of your video, it would have taken a lot longer and there would have been a lot more cuss words involved!
Thanks again for taking the time to make this!

Good job. Thanks for making the video. That was pretty funny in the beginning when you removed the first panel when you said it makes life a lot easier to take apart the dashboard to get to the lamps! LOL
When I was preparing to replace the stereo in my Element, I bought a set of three very thick plastic tools on eBay that are made for taking apart Honda dashboards. I think the set cost me about $3.50 and shipping was free. May be worth looking into for next time so you don't risk scratching your silverware. I never even used them on my Element. I had no idea it was so easy to get to the stereo. I had it completely finished in about eight minutes. I'm not looking forward to replacing the lamps in my wife's Odyssey, though!
Oh, also, the Molex connectors (the multi-wire plastic connectors that plug into the panel) are usually easy to remove with a very small flat-tip screwdriver under the connector.

This is just the video I needed to see. I have watched a few others, but this one gave me the confidence to take on the task. It went extremely smooth. Definitely recommend disconnecting the electrical connections on the switches. It made accessing the screws much easier. Thank you and your fantastic camera man for a job well done. Much appreciated. My wife is also much happier now that she can read her gas gauge at night.

I forgot to mention. Harbor freight sells nylon tools for removing automotive panels and dash parts. Leave no marks and only cost a few for the kit. Here is the link.

I can’t believe after all this time only one person commented that this is the wrong way to remove the dash and they weren’t even sure themselves. That black rectangle to the left of the radio exists solely to remove the dash. Way way way faster than this explanation as it is the intended method.

Thanks for this! Just changed lights in my 03 Odyssey. Used a dull butter knife to pry off covers. Found also that gearshift in the way so had to put car into 1 to have enough room. Was on a slight incline so had to keep foot on brake while car not in P. Also raising and lowering steering wheel helped. Wish I had the right bulb for clock while it was all apart and accessible. Took me about an hour.
Really appreciate your video. Thanks again!

jeannebean99 Your van doesn’t have an “emergency” brake (aka hand or parking brake)? I’ve seen several cars pop out of gear while they were parked on inclines. One was locked and rolled backwards down the hill and into a bus in the middle of an intersection! This was the second time I’d seen it happen myself. I started using my hand brake 100% of the time. Since then I’ve read news reports of people being killed when they were pinned between something (a garage door for example) and their car. They said the driver hadn’t made sure it was in gear, but I don’t believe that. I think they didn’t use their parking brake and relied solely on the gearbox to prevent the car from moving. This was a bad judgment call made from lack of information about the critical role of parking brakes in preventing injury or death. PLEASE use your parking brake EVERY time you park so you get into the habit and it’s engaged when you need it most!

Tip for the radio panel. Use a small screwdriver to pop out the blank, and use your fingers to pull it off. It pops off in less than 3 seconds. Then disconnect light harness and the thermostat. Start to finish is under a minute.

For the bottom panel (where the radio and climate control stuff is) I saw another video where the guy just used a tool (screwdriver/spatula) to pop out the small rectangle on the left of the radio, then he put his fingers into that hole and just pulled the whole thing out in one yank! Might be easier ... so look up Honda Odyssey Radio removal for that. Another guy put his fingers behind the panel at the left (behind shifter) and yanked .... same effect!

just put in the key to on, put the speed handle all the way to 1, under the ac button there's an empty button cap put a flat screw driver to open it, pull it out then on the empty space put your fingers and pull the whole case out is going to come out right away.

Great video!! Quick question -- how does one know which bulb is for the "D" gear position? It's out on my car and many others, and I read this on a forum: "That bulb is a hard wired bulb, and unless you have a very steady hand and are good with a solder iron, replace the cluster." What does "replace the cluster" mean? I also read that there is a section of the back of that panel that has five bulbs (one for each gear position) and the "D" goes out most often. Are those hard to replace individually? I'm a bit confused.

    • @leeozawa

No, you have to remove the circuit board. Some people use the D1 bulb and use it to replace the burned out D4 bulb. There is another video that show how to access the circuit board.

No, you have to remove the circuit board. People replace the burned out D4 bulb with the D1 bulb. Another video shows the process.

Is it my imagination or does the temp gauge appear to be not as bright as the other three gauges? If so, I'm wondering what the correct bulb is for that application. I think you used the 158LL. Anybody with factory original bulbs in their van see a difference in the brightness of the temp gauge?

Easier way is take out the auxiliary switch that doesnt have anything on it next to the shifter with a flathead. Then put 2 fingers in the hole and pull it off with no force at all. This guy is doing more damage then neccessary
